I walked behind the fences for approximately 30 years And worked with some Of the Best people on Earth. Proud to have Served my STATE. Good days I WILL NEVER forget. GOD bless ALL C.O.'s and Stay strong.❤❤😊
I'm a retired California Correctional Officer that was taken out by an inmate and now live with a spinal cord stimulator implant and a wire in my spine. But i feel lucky because i came out of it alive, many don't. I have pain every day but i still get on my Harley Davidson and ride. It's the only pain relief I get. The drugs I had prescribed would never let me do that. We must always challenge ourselves and our limits. Hold your head up and refuse to be taken out if we can. I chose the profession knowing it was extremely dangerous. When I had the badge pinned on my chest at graduation I knew what could be involved . I never felt so proud in my life. But I'm one of the lucky ones I'm here writing to you to follow your dreams and hold your head up high. You do make a difference and should be proud of what you've accomplished.
My daddy was a correctional officer and in December 17 1985 he was held hostage. A riot broke out and the worst part was it was his first week on the job and I was 1 my my sister was 3 and my brother was 5. He was in the same room that three of the correctional officers were stabbed and beaten. My dad was just beaten thank the good lord he was not stabbed.
You're damn right you don't get enough credit. But when you do your job right, trying to deal with an inmate w/ mental problems, the public and media are quick to shit all over you all, who are doing a real tough job. A tip of that hat to you, and don't let the lack of credit get you down. You're mentally able and physically fit; if you ain't corrections, you ain't shit.

None of us do. I know how you feel.
Wonderful video and tribute. I really like the prayer for courage at the end too - is it possible to print this off and give copies to CO's?
