In this video COMPLETE TILE RE-ROOF (PART 1), Will takes you through a step by step roof replacement, as usual he gives you roofing tips along the way. We show you how to strip an old roof by removing the old roof lath, removing old roof tiles and then show you the process of felting a roof and fixing new roof lath before laying new roof tiles.

Never have I thought until I watched this video about the insane amount of work that goes into a house roof. Now I have huge respect for the people who do this.
Thats a fairly large roof. A typical roof, as long as you have everything ready should take no more then 5 days depending on man power

Will your very good reminds me of myself you've been taught the old way. Ive been roofing for 41 years unfortunately im terminally ill now i still go to work will my son who im teaching him before the inevitable i retired twice but i cant stay away i see the quality of your work and you will probably be the same as me. Good look in your life and keep going.
Been a roofer since I left school over 20 years ago and it's nice to see some one who actually takes there time and has a bit of pride in their work as opposed to majority who just slap it on and don't give a fuck how it looks, keep it up lads and good luck going forward

I'm a 21 year old roofer in training in Germany and I find it fascinating to see how other countries build their roofs. Nontheless it looks really good. I just love the craft
You Germans do some really nice slate work. Someone told me that German roofers have to do years of training before they're even allowed on a roof. Is that true?
@@Starwars0405 I can't speak for all roofing businesses in Germany but at least for mine it was different. I had a 2 week internship where I was watching my colleagues how they move on the roof. During that time it was not allowed for me to go on the roof. After the 2 weeks I was a helper for a few months and they let me go on the roof. Now I'm in training. So it was just for my internship. The only reason why I was not allowed on the roof was because I had no accident insurance which is a must have. Otherwise you are mostly useless when you're not on the roof.

Will is clearly a great roofer, and great in front of the camera.🤩 I've got a great tip for cutting those rafter feet, super accurate and super fast.👊 I liked the, 'chop, chop lads', getting the roof covered back in quick after it had been exposed.😃 Great stuff as always.

@@martinbrice9802 Hi Martin. Line up all, (or 20 at a time), the lengths of timber that have been cut to the desired length. (looked about 600mm in the video). Then stack them tightly together, (the widest dimension vertically), on that lovely flat work bench by screwing the end two down into the bench. (you could also drive some wedges in between one of these to really pack all the others in tight, or a pair of long sash clamps would be idea) Now, pressuming that the bench is nice and flat, (if its not you could run battenes under each edge, not dissimilar to the jig in the video), and the timber is all the same size, you then mark your birdsmouth position on each end one and draw this line across the top of all of the stacked pieces. Now you set your circular saw to the pitch of the roof and its depth to the depth of the plumb cut, and just run it down one of the lines. Now set the saw to the seat cut, and its depth, and run it down the other line. BOOM. What you end up with is a load of stacked lengths of timber with a groove cut through them.😎 A 45 degree roof be the easiest, and this method would be limited to maximum angle your saw could be set to. (most saws now go over to 55 dgrees, so this would work with pitches down to 35 degrees). Super fast and super accurate.👍 I hope I've made sense.

All the roofers I know are really cool guys. They seem to have an, 'easy', attitude and are hard grafters. Its got to be something to do with being outdoors all the time and they are a fairly hardy bunch.💪

Yep and ive learnt so much watching videos ive never been on Facebook or TH-cam or anything before until 6months ago and im amazed at the standard and how much i can learn and people are willing to help aswell so its great Tony. I dont even no how to edit or timelapse yet im a real dinosaur. Nice work, gentlemen. I was surprised you didn't use contra laths / cross laths (I don't know how to espress it in English, because it's not my native language). I used to be roofer myself for three years and everytime we started nailing contra lath on the roof membrane to create ventilation gaps between roof membrane and the horizontal laths holding the tiles.

At 8:20 no commentary, but noticed he puts in double layer of tiles probably to lift the final tile above the gutter. The underside has a batten fixed just under the last batten and has a tile cut and nailed to match the tile length above it. Starts with a tile and half from the hip up to the valley with a 45 degree cut to meet the tile on the other side. All are then covered by the last tile above. Membrane is over hanging but with eaves support tray can be cut flush with last tile to prevent UV degradation. The tray will deliver the rainwater into the gutter.

I am not a roofer. Actually, I’m afraid of heights and so this would definitely be the wrong career choice for me… I don’t know the first thing about roofing. However, thanks to the TH-cam algorithm, this has come up in my suggestions at nearly half past midnight and it’s really quite satisfying to watch😁😁 nice roof😀

Pity the client never opted for a bonnet tile, would have complimented the valley and softened the hips, great video all the same.

I think this is the first time that I've seen a roof that didn't have plywood and a vaper barrier on top of the rafters ... is it because it's an older house , or is that a normal thing in the UK ?
To my mind there are some serious 'technical' issues with this roof!

You need to get ur knee pads on mate! I wondered do you keep/salvage your tiles that come off? I know we rarely put them back on these days but I often think they’d go another 50 years once it was re felt and battened and new muckwork/ dry ridge etc. of course the storage is the issue.
And do you use a Bumpa? I find mine invaluable

What's the rule on nailing, tiles which interlock, is it every other row?
Hi all at A&E when laying out the roof battens do you have to work it out from the bottom or in the case of the back of the chimney, as seem's to be done here?
I live in a seme detached house. With the small red clay roof tiles. Same as nxt door. They need replacing. A roofer is saying it's cheaper to use bigger tiles. Also saying the bigger tiles offer better protection. Is this correct. Or should I go for the smaller ones like what's already on. Then it will blend in with next doors roof. Any advice?
Me personally I prefer the small tile
Also consider the period of the property you can buy concrete that are double tile size but bigger tiles are cheaper
