    Brilliant roofer. This is what roofing is all about, probably not cheap. But takes his time and does everything to perfection. Well done Will you are a honour to roofing

    There is something very satisfying watching a skilled artisan, who takes a pride in his work, doing what he has learned over years of acquiring his ‘art’. The fact that he does not damage what he is trying to create in the process, is no accident. Avoiding clumsy moves or misplaced steps is as important as careful measurement and preparation. Complicated and compound angles require agile mathematics, particularly when accommodating the inevitable variation of build. The older the age of the original building, the more likely it’s not going to be symmetrical. Thanks Wills for showing you and your team in action. It’s a nice job that looks superb.

    So impressed with professionalism and a site clean up. Had the services of a roofer who didn't have these qualities: so stressful!

      It is a shame when you don't get the service you'd expect from a professional trade. Will is an awesome guy and an exceptional tradesman, and wouldn't leave anything but perfection.

      @@davidyip5557Aye, I see that at 13:39 mins, a full width instead of 2 narrow ones would have fettled that. Well spotted, but an absolutely awesome job overall one must say (and I think NHL5 lime should have been used on the stone copings too, incidentally, but not knocking the job overall).

    That video was a masterpiece! Hugely entertaining and wonderful to see the process from roofer's nightmare to a beautifully finished slate roof. I loved your positive, friendly attitude and great teaching skills. I came to the video to find out how to safely move, walk, stand and sit on my slate roof so I can drop a chimney liner down for a woodburner. I was carefully watching to see how you positioned your self working on the roof without damaging tiles but ended up learning a lot more about roof construction and renovation. Many thanks for making and sharing the video, Will. You are the King of the roofers!

    After doing a full back to brick house renovation over the past 2 years, I would consider myself a very experienced DIY’er. Now at the point where the roof needs doing, and your video’s have given me the knowledge and confidence to give it a go myself. Thank you for these top quality videos, keep it up! Subscribed and definitely going to be a regular watcher 👍🏼

    Loved it. I watch a lot of construction videos that tell you how to do a job, step by step. I’m never going to re-slate a roof myself so sometimes I just want to know what is involved so should I ever need a roofer to do it for me, I know what’s to expect. I wish more videos took this approach. Excellent thank you..

    I have done roofing for 35 years here in Texas. From wood shakes rough and 18" perfections, clay tile cement tile, but never no slate. I'am retired now but watching your videos brings back some good memories of my roofing days, good job especially on the flashing work.

    I can't afford a new roof but need a valley releading. I said to my mate who is gonna do it, can you not put felt underneath the lead? he said yes. I questioned it tho my self as there is obviously a reason why they don't in the first place. This video confirms it for me as it will sweat 👍

    Excellent job.
    The only problem I see is to the right at the top of the valley at 15:01, the seams almost meet up. I'm unfamiliar with slate work so I wouldn't know how to fix that without vertically chalking the right side of the dormer using the slated left side as a template. But I really admire the hard work put into this job.

    • @76jwc
      @76jwc ปีที่แล้ว

      You're right about the side lap, there's probably a piece of lead underneath. Marking perpendicular lines on the roof battens can help avoid this. I feel picky mentioning it - I've learnt a lot of tips from Will, and don't give my time for free to assist/educate others. He's clearly an excellent roofer.

    These geezers are spot on & a do a marvelous 1st class job with real pride in their work. A friend & I are planning on doing my roof, but re-slate using the good original removed ones, plus remainder using good second hand ones. Cannot stand the sight of those horrible cheap clay pan tile things, pile of crap!. So hats off to these guys for giving us some inspiration to tackle these jobs. Noticed they used a slaters hammer, but I've bought a slate ripper tool for getting the slates off. Not sure if I've got the right tool for the job now after having watched this. Loved the video, cheers :-) .

    Great video! Wish I'd got into roofing when I was younger.
    A few things confused me, so I have a couple of questions...
    1) I always thought the roof felt had to have a slight dip in between the rafters so any rain that got though a broken slate would pool into that dip and run all the way to the bottom...otherwise it could run/spread any which way on the way down including over where the new rafters are nailed through the felt, compromising the watertightness...is that not really necessary?
    2) Why is the wood you installed blue? Waterproofing treatment or something?
    3) Why did you install cut slates on the vertical behind the lead step flashing?
    Thanks for taking the time to film this job.

    Great videos! Does anyone have a recommendation for the best underlay for slate? I'm struggling to find reviews as most membrane companies demonstrate using their product with battens (the English way) therefore allowing for an air gap between membrane and tile/slate, they seem to suggest this is important, so whats the recommended membrane designed to be sandwiched between sarking?

    • @leehensey
      @leehensey ปีที่แล้ว

      If it is traditional slate then over fascia vents, breathable membrane and dry ridge system is fine but you need to cut out 30mm of the membrane either side of the ridge tree, if man made then you need counter battens or a non breather felt, hope this is useful, please see the Marley roof site for more x
