ALL200 Motorized Light Lift
Steps:
1. Before doing any electrical work, ensure that power is turned off at the circuit breaker. Use an electrical tester to confirm this before proceeding.
2. Remove the existing light fixture by disconnecting the electrical connections between the electrical box and the fixture. Remove the existing electrical box.
3. Place the new magnetic electrical box through the hole in the ceiling.
4. Mount the motorized electric winch to the access space above the ceiling. If the access space has open boards is in an unfinished joist bay, you may have to add structure to mount the winch. Use drill/driver and screws to mount it to structure.
5. If the old fixture did not have a source of constant power, you may need to run a new wire to the lift to supply it. Splice together the constant electrical source to the wire which controls the motor. Use wire nuts to secure the connections.
6. Splice the existing switch control wires to the wires that feed the light fixture.
7. Splice together the supplied low voltage wires from a switch box to the matching wires on the motorized electric winch. Use wire nuts to secure the connections.
8. Fish low voltage wire from the electric winch down to a new low voltage ring near the light fixture. This low voltage ring will be where the lift is controlled.
9. Connect the ground wires to the motorized electric winch using a screwdriver.
10. Place the cover on the motorized electric winch.
11. Use push connection to lock in low voltage wires and attach the key switch to the low voltage ring to the wall using screws and a screwdriver.
12. At this point, you can restore power at the circuit panel to lower the lift.
13. Use the key to lower the electrical box on the winch down to a workable area. Keeping constant downward pressure on the cable, carefully remove the weight.
14. Splice the corresponding electrical connections from the plate to the light fixture. Use wire nuts to secure connections.
15. Use the key switch to raise the light fixture. When the magnetic connection is made, the light will turn on.

I looked up the price for the Aladdin Light Lifts ALL300 - 300lbs max - Residential, the MSRP was $1033.
Yeah it should be quite slow for safety but man that is way to slow also the light fixture could easily be pulled over the railing and clean and change the bulbs

I was quoted $600 in labor just to replace my old ugly chandelier so this would definitely be a smart purchase for me. My ceiling is over 25 feet high. If I have to pay that much for "2 men and scaffolding" it makes sense to get this installed instead, then installing a new light will not be a big deal and I can change bulbs and clean the fixtures easily also!

True, but you would need scaffolding to replace the fixture, and she seems the kind of person that would change that fixture several times just because.

In Aus we just stick a screw driver in to the roof and put the cables thru that no mounting needed

Great video! Why do we need the switches in the Attic? Will the original switch be eliminated? Will the key be the primary means to turn the light on and off now?
The switches in the attic are just to service the light lift. they key only operates the up & down motion of the lift. your existing wall switch/dimmer controls the on/off of the light

Looking at those connections the center connection which I'm presuming is the earth does not seem to be able to make contact as the contractors on the line and neutral do not allow the metal rings to touch and there is no contractor on the earth.
The new light fixtures seems easier to clean with a pole duster.
Motorized chandelier lift($700) vs 16ft step ladder($30). I'd choose the latter. This could be an option for someone who wants to shine the crystals every year though.
Please tell me where you can buy this magical 16' ladder for $30.

The lift kit you can't tap the motor off a lighting circuit in the Attic should be on its own
that lift realy should have been worked inside the floor he coeld have done much better on the attic

Where does the low voltage connection hook up? Does it come from the motor?
A NJ statewide electrical shop (GMS) told me this work was out of scope for their skill set. A new construction easily accessible attic with ample power sources. Provided area pictures and this video. Your thoughts?
If you really needed this and couldn’t use a ladder for some reason you could also install a mini come along or hand winch in the attic to save money

Lights like that are often just used for decorative lighting, not actually putting out useful light. It's possible that there are not any LED bulbs in the style of lighting that they desire and in that particular bulb base type. I have had a few lights similar to that in houses that I've owned over the years and I hated them. They were enough of a pain to change that I usually waited until the very last one of the bulbs burned out before I broke out the ladder. One house had a 17 ft ceiling and the light was hanging down over the stairs. Putting a ladder on stairs is an accident waiting to happen. LED lights were not available for houses back then.
How about the dust? I guess none of you mind having dirty fixtures.

They have those (but a heavy duty version because the lights weigh HUNDREDS of pounds) in my church.
In the area I service people call an electrician once a year for any lights not working. What that means, besides the fact that they have money to burn, is they send out the new guy who makes a list of what bulbs are needed and then comes back tomorrow with the right ladder and a box full of new bulbs. Since this job is charged by the hour the owner can save money over time with this contraption. You think I am kidding, right? On the "gold coast" you will not see a hedge fund manager changing his own bulbs on a 10,000 sq ft weekend home. That's why they make the big bucks!
How to know if to run the 12 or 14 wires??

Heck yeah, why would anyone motorize that process with a complicated and expensive device like that. Imagine if he put a push connection in the wire that could be safely unplugged at the fixture by anyone, changed the mounting box so that the light fixture could be released/secured easily enough from above, and connected it to a loose cord with a stop or indication of how far to let it drop, so that it could be let down manually from the attic without hitting it onto the floor. Immensely cheaper, no silly switch on the wall, and I can't imagine even neat-freaks like those homeowners cleaning it often enough for the little extra work of going up to the attic to have any real significance.

I mean the system is not really meant for those lights. It was supposed to be used for those heavy af chandeliers. Like those with bike chains or glasses that weight 300-600lbs. The system can hold up to 1000lbs and it cost for 1000 to 2500 depends on the weight limit

Wamfox Yes it are. That typical yellow inside the bulbs means it are LED's. Though i've dumped half of my LED lighting and got carbon filament bulbs. Much more athmosphere and screw mother nature :D

Switching to LED's will not fix the problem of having to clean it.

aladain is one that I keep seeing they have ones that lift 200lbs but their are a few companies that sell this. I have 26' ceilings I have been looking into this for a year. My fixture is dirty as heck they want 350 bucks to clean it.

No
You still use the regular switch to turn on the lights. The electrical connections disconnects when the light is lowered. The house we live in now has 2 of these which is great for cleaning, changing bulbs and changing to new light fixture. We changed out to LEDs so hopefully won’t have to deal with bulbs for a while.
Being an adult prevents a 200 lbs light falling on your head from causing injuries?

Nick Dvorchak there are no completed circuits, when the fixture is lowered, so nothing will happen.

It doesn’t work like that. The hot will be in the ceiling in the attic covered by the lift cover. The connection will be complete when the plate connects the wires in the center. I have 2 of these which were already in the house when we bought it. They are great.
but what if she wants to have the light off but not lowered like when she goes to bed she isn't just gonna keep it on

I'm hard on Scott (mostly because he uses his pliers to strip wires) but he did a great job here. Every homeowner in a nicer home who has an expensive chandelier coming down a 2nd or 3rd story ceiling should consider one of these and they will save money in the long run if they every replace it because if an electrician has to rent a lift or set up scaffolding to reach your fixture in the future, it'll cost you money. You can also clean the crystals easily too. Biggest thing to watch out with these is to remind the painters NOT to paint the terminals. They like doing that for some reason.
The attic seemed to be good accessable. Just tie a long cord and such a steel cable to the light and lower it manually that one time a year. I also like to spend a nonsense of money, but this really is just a waste of money.

Led or fluorescent bulbs would have saved this homeowner a lot money but this is a cool system and the convenience is great but only if you can afford it.

There are stairs in the way and I don't know of any ladders that can reach 18 feet safely in her situation.

Yes it is. I meant a ladder that you could be on and reach 18 feet. I guess I wrote it weird. Doesn't really change the main issue, which is there is no place to put a ladder. The light fixture seems to be directly over the railing. So the ladder would have to be off to the side which is not very safe.
Someone has to install that fixture too. Sometimes I see 3 story houses with stairways and there is no safe way to reach the fixture without renting a lift from a rental shop or having one of these.
Some people don't like heights.
