- Gary’s back in LA and this time he’s working on a trio of Dan’s cars. Completing work on the Merc 190SL’s accelerator rod and carbs, servicing the Jaguar XK8 and doing an oil change on the Lexus LS600. In between all that he finds time to see a rare and beautiful 1974 BMW 2002 turbo - what a treat!

Dan is a lucky guy to have you working on his fleet of vehicles! Good man! 👍🏽
That 2002 is one of my all time favorite BMW designs… beautifully simple, elegant and understated.
Gary, without any doubt, you produce one of the most enjoyable TH-cam channels I have been watching in recent years. Your knowledge and craftsmanship of restoring cars amazes me, and inspires me to start working on my just acquired 1986 Toyota Land Cruiser BJ73 FRP.. I hope one day you will feature this car in your show, and I can see all the mistakes I have done restoring mine;-)
The closest I’ve done to that is an FJ40. Many thanks for your kind comments and who knows, I may do a BJ73 in the future!! Regards.
I had the chance to buy an early 70's 2002Tii in 1983, I visited a garage down the Fulham Palace Road in London where the car had been in for a respray in white. As I was on the cusp of a promotion at work that would have given me my first company car I decided to pass on the 2002 for £1500! At least I got the promotion and an Audi Coupe with it!!!
The 928 and the 2002 Turbo my two favourite cars on the channel.
Keep up the great content Gary ,one of the best channels on TH-cam.
Much appreciated!
I wish we could see a follow up episode of the 928 being brought back to Tom so he could drive it one last time now that Gary has it perfect now.
Great to see Dan reunited with his 190 under a beautiful blue sky! I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, it’s been a great series of videos on this car! Thanks Gary!
Thanks Simon. I think I need to paint it now! Regards.
wonderful stuff
Appears to be work over there for classic car techs ,think I’ll get a card up in one the 7/11 shop windows for a start over there!
I remember when I was a little kid we live on a road with a cul-de-sac. The house all the way at the end, in the cul-de-sac, was owned by a lawyer and he purchased a brand new 1970's BMW 2002 TII. It was 1970's dark brown and i believe it was from the Pre-1974 rear square taillight facelift because his car had the "roundies" as they were called. When that car would drive out of the cul-de-sac and up the hill past our house, it had the sweetest sounding engine i ever heard. It was so quick and really looked the part back in the early 1970s. That was a time when BMW made quality cars that looked like nothing else on the road. I'll always remember that little car.
Story of my life 😂😂😂😂
Great video Gary
Another one
Thank you for another amazing video
Mahalo nui loa (Thank you VERY much) for including the credits for the lovely music you feature in your videos!
I love the British coal band sound of bands like the Black Dyke Band. That little ditty, "Dover", by The Westerlies just takes this ex-pat back a few decades! I'm on the opposite side of the world from Blighty now, but this music...is...just...IT!
Oh...and the lovely car repairs and drives are marvelous, too!🤣🤣
In the nearly 7 years I lived in Germany, I only saw 1 BMW 2002 Turbo on the Autobahn! The example you featured is simply gorgeous!
Mahalo for making my day...automotively...and musically. Much aloha to you and yours!
Rare BMW, lovely condition. The SL is looking fantastic Gary. The owners a lucky chap. A very classy car. Can I borrow it?
That toyota oil filter cup has a specific tool to open it. It cost's like 20buck's or so. It is a cup that has that big socket edges inside of it and slots cut to it's sides to go over the wings that Gary mentioned. I highly recommend to buy one.
Gorgeous 2002, always liked them 👍
genuine mini-lite rims give it that period look .even if didnt come with them. i'd leave them just as it sits!
I agree. Regards
Great video Gary 👍🏻😀
Cheers Ronnie!
Thank you for another fine episode! Dan seems to own fine autos and undermaintain them.
Sometimes it’s a lack of quality auto shops. There’s so many of them over there..
I was thinking the exact same thing
Absolutely love your videos Gary, I’ve watched it here in sunny Spain on my holliers, this Irish ☘️ man is happy.
all looks brilliant Gary well done again sir
Interesting video once again, Gary. Remember seeing full page press adverts in a Daily Mail for the 2002 Turbo . Strange really , as they were such a low production homologation car , you wondered why BMW would go to such lengths of a full page advertisement. It was of course , the fastest production 2 litre car in the world at the time , so I think it was to push the BMW brand and the technology they had achieved more so than the model itself.
I remember a BMW commercial starring Kirk Douglas. They always spent a lot on classy ads..Regards
@@classic.obsessionit was a black 6 35i. I remember it.
Another good video Gary 🚘🚙🚗👍👍👍👏👏👏👏
Another fabulous episode- thank you !
what can you say, apart from another fantastic episode!
Awesome episode, thanks! Beautiful set of cars, jawdropping!👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
If the BMW waste gate has a diaphragm it may no longer able to hold boost. Otherwise check the turbo turbine for play. There should be the slightest end float play.
I was thinking wastegate siezed slightly open and unable to achieve boost untill high RPM
Very interesting ,I resprayed a 2002 turbo in the early 90s Polaris silver , Never seen another in the flesh ! Also did paint repairs on a Renault 5 Gordini turbo ( rear / mid engine ) Happy days 😃
Always had a soft spot for the 2002 Turbo - a bit hairy in the wet I understand when the turbo spools up. 70s and 80s turbos were a bit binary - I remember taking an Isuzu Piazza Turbo out for a spin in the late 80s (on a wet day) and found myself looking out of the passenger side window as I wrestled to bring the car back under control :)
I had a Subaru L Coupe with early legacy engine in it had Turbo light warning of impending Doom ! Luckily in 4wd it was OK otherwise smoked front tyres 😅
I was looking forward back home in watching the work on the red corniche
Next up! Regards
Pure class.
Great stuff Gary, keep the videos coming.
Thanks Jeff
Should have started the video with the " I think i'm gonna be back in the not too distance future" *INSERT DRAMATIC INTRO MUSIC* . the " Montecarlo bar" as Jay leno calls it....and I guess it's cheaper to fly you down to his car maintenance..
12:30.....story of my life 🙂
Let's see the front with the turbo in reverse
Hi Gary, don’t know if you’ve seen seen it but there’s a channel on yet called Life on cars(I only just found it myself).the guy
Great car, small, lively and good visibility. I ran a 2002 Tii with the Kugalfischer injection. That door would annoy me, something to do with the check strap?
Yes it’s definitely an aftermarket check strap. Regards
1973 rear lights change from round
.also...Dan's made you his mechanic hasn't he...
Sorry sent it by mistake it’s on you tube guys a mechanic and he’s just bought a 94 spirit 3 and he’s going to need a few pointers, just wondering if you could give him a few pointers?cheers regards John.
I do love these, Gary. But I would pay serious money to see you go give Videobob Moseley a hard time about his half-ass work.
👍
Did you just grind that rivet back then leave it like that and install it back again with it all grinded off
Yep!
Hi Gary who's is the Jag? Do you have a place in LA?
It’s Dans. Owner of the 190..
he mentioned it was Marks who’s not much on servicing cars.
What a dinky little car. It's barely bigger than the pink toy car.
BMW 2002 Turbo 3:37 that guy need his own channel he`s damn good
