This song and video helped me to understand my wife's alcoholism as she fought against it in an seemingly unwinnable war. Well, she did win in 2004 thanks to the Lord and we've never looked back. It'll be her 20th sobriety birthday next year. Don't ever give up hope folks. Miracles really do happen.
The album on which this song appears (Hopes and Fears) was released 22 years ago in 2002, when you were 49. I was 14 at the time and the album helped me alot back then. We live in an incredible time - where songs from decades ago (certainly those older than this!) can reach new ears and make new changes in the world - and these are all at our fingertips to discover...
I’m an ex drug addict, I have been clean for 12 years now. I got this album for Christmas 2004 and I totally related to this song. It brings back so many dark memories. I’m glad I changed my life.
This isn't a simple song, it's the inner liberation of an individual from darkness to light. It's very healing, therapeutic and that's something that few have managed to do within the music industry. Congratulations on a great achievement!
By far their best written song. Musically and lyrically. A song that stands the test of time amongst the giants of pop music history. Any musician would have been proud to have made this.
Totally agree with you , they never got the credit they deserved they never made a bad song , every single had meaning to them , again this is by far there best written/lyrically song
I want to be a child again, with my mum and dad blasting Keane on a Saturday night with a takeaway and me and my friends playing the Nintendo Wii without a care in the world. The nostalgia is so overwhelming. Being an adult is tough 😢
10 years! 10 years it took me to find this song! I was 14 when it was on music tv chanel. Couple of days later on radio. And then, nothing.. Didn't know much of an english, but now, today, I heard it again on radio. Hope everyone will enjoy it as much as I do! :))
Tom puts so much emotion in his singing it feels like a sword that traspases the soul. A pleasurable pain... No doubt This is a masterpeice !!! Long Live Keane!!!
A couple of years ago a friend of mine I knew well back in my teens died suddenly. He was a father, and in fact his partner found out a week or so after he passed that she was pregnant. It's both tragic and beautiful at the same time. He seemed to be really settling into his life. He was a total rockstar, like a Yorkshire Jack Black, musically talented and charismatic. His folks chose this to play at his funeral and I hadn't cried for the duration, right until the chorus. It's a great song, and even if he wasn't a fan of Keane I'm sure he'd have approved. He knew a good song. Miss you Jake, thinking of you today.
I have a mate who is dying of cancer. He lives alone and gets frailer by the day. He's a proud fella I think and is desperate to walk this path alone. I spoke to him before Christmas and offered to come around to see him, but he turned me down because he said he wasn't up to seeing me. He's been through a massive amount in his life (he's 54). 2 broken marriages, epilepsy, blindness and alcoholism.... but he's a stubborn sod ! This song reminds me of all that he's been through, all that he continues to go through and all his battles. God bless ya Colin !
Eugene, not matter what. Your friend says. Keep asking. One day he might get tired of u asking and do something with u. Don't let him die alone. He may be a proud man but even the proud and strong break. He just don't want to look weak. Don't give up. Coming from someone who's been thete. My heart is with u buddy.
I feel bad for not stopping to think about so many people who suffer alone out there without help or even dignity. We are so used to judging that we forget that others are also human beings experiencing problems. This song makes me reflective and with a certain sadness.
This song came out when my son was diagnosed with autism and he always wondered why he was treated different at school with other pupils making fun off him, laughing at him, he felt alone and would hide in the toilets all the time not interacting with anyone. I dont blame the pupils for they didn't understand either and the were infants. But it did leave a unforgettable impression on his mind, he is a person without any physical disabilities, but an invisible disability. How many people grew up with it and were classed as trouble makers.
I forgot how good this song was. Really pulls on the heartstring’s. To anybody feeling down, there is always light at the end of the tunnel. Before you think there is no other option, just think for a minute. You are a beautiful human being, you deserve life as much as anyone else, you are perfect in your own ways, you are irreplaceable. Xx
I was in depression for like a couple of years during college, now that I’m almost making my dreams come true I feel so happy, but it’s nice to come back after a long time to this song, it reminds me how hard it was and I admire myself 🫶🏻
I'm in university at the moment and my time at university has been the worst years of my life. I'm in my last semester so it will all be over soon but I have deadlines coming up and I'm being hit hard by feelings of self-doubt and general feelings of sadness. I'm glad you're making your dreams come true, hopefully I can do the same once I finish university. Many thanks for sharing this comment.
KEANE, the sadness in his voice and just the feel of the music is so so good. I am from a tiny town in the Himalayas and I am constantly looking up for artists and new sound to inspire my music. And KEANE, you are right on the top of my list. Love from Sikkim. ❤
I watched this video for first time when i was like seven years old, this video was the scariest thing i've ever seen, i didn't wanted to watch it again, but the time passed and, yesterday, i listened this song in the radio, and today, after watching the video i realized that it wasn't the scariest thing, but it is the most real thing that you can see, some people aren't going to accept you like you are, no matter how hard you try to change, you will be always a monster for them, when the real monsters are they. Keane, you are one of the most symbolic bands you can listen.
Damn right brother. Rapist and child molesters say the same. Some people will never accept them as they are and always think of them as monsters, but the monster are actually everyone else.
Many's the time I ran with you down The rainy roads of our old town Many the lives we lived in each day And buried altogether Don't laugh at me Don't look away You'll follow me back With the sun in your eyes And on your own Bedshaped And legs of stone You'll knock on my door And up we'll go In white light I don't think so But what do I know? What do I know? I know! I know you think I'm holding you down And I've fallen by the wayside now And I don't understand the same things as you But I do Don't laugh at me Don't look away You'll follow me back With the sun in your eyes And on your own Bedshaped And legs of stone You'll knock on my door And up we'll go In white light I don't think so But what do I know? What do I know? I know! And up we'll go In white light I don't think so But what do I know? What do I know? I know!
Always have tears in my eyes listening to this song. I can relate to the lyrics so much. Reminds me of dark times, dark memories, dark emotions... and hope.
One of the best songs in the world for me. I listened to this when I was ten on tv, but didn't know who it was by or when it came out until now. I've been searching for this song for the past THREE YEARS now. Definitely worth it.
I can't listen to this song without crying. In 2004 this song (along with the album) literally saved my life. I was in a very dark place. It's 2021 and I've only just been able to come back to this. I'm balling, but it's easy now. Thank you Keane. ❤️🙏🏻
Wow!! Amazing how two people can share a dark experience and turn to the same band for reassurance or something to fall back on. I still listen to "Hopes and Fears" and "Under the Iron Sea" albums to this very day, and Bedshaped is still among the top 7 songs I listen to whenever I need a kinda boost in my state of being. Great to have read your comment. It beamed up my day. Good music taste you have too. Cheers and God bless.
Im autistic been struggling with social anxiety, not being understood, overstimulated by lights, movements, everything, life can be hard. Im very happy this song touched others and im sending hugs! I wonder what inspired Tom to write sing like that and choose this particular animation..
It is extremely thought provoking and dark at times which you almost crave... iam glad the album has happier times for you now... it's a remarkable piece of music
I can't watch this video now without crying. There was this homeless man always waiting on the bridge, he passed away under the bridge recently. Oh I hope you're in heaven with God now, please.
I'm 36 and was listening to this as a teen abused and broken with no hope. Now I'm 36, have 4 kids, a home and everything I need. I've never turned to drink or drugs, don't have a record etc.... My kids have me a life and a reason.
Glad you survived!!!!🎉🎉🎉, Ive had my share of ups and downs!!! Just discovered KEANE, Love Him, I listened to Coldplay alot but for some reason it wasn't played alot in theUSA( not in Cleveland, Ohio) glad i found it!!!!
Gracias!!
I see that a lot of people is saying their interpretations of the song, I think that is great that a song can have different interpretations but in words of rice-oxley bedshaped is about when you think you have been left behind by an old friend or a lover and about hoping that you'll be reunited one day
3:22 at this point, he gathered himself up just enough courage to give society one more chance, he walked out of the safety of the shadows he calls "home". Scared but hopeful, he looked them straight in the eye, but like how it was once before they shunned him back to the only place he felt safe. As the walls crumbled upon him, it was all too much, he ended it. The light beckons him with open arms, and at this moment, he is finally safe. Let us not judge those who are down, we're all fighting our own battles.
What a masterpiece and such depth of topic in beautiful artistry and hard hitting melody-mental illness, homelessness, alcoholism, depression and anxiety, bipolarism. Such a plight for the misunderstood and socially excluded of the population ❤️❤️❤️❤️
I used to watch this video on the music channels on tv when i was about 6 years old. It was probably the first time in my life where music had an incredibly profound effect on me. The combination of the music and the video mesmerised and left me weeping as a child and my mother frequently recalls those moments to me to this day. Ever since then I have been fascinated by the sad beauty found in music and its ability to move me emotionally. Incredible song and video.
Back in 2004, I bought Hopes and Fears CD based on what I'd heard on TV: Everybody's Changing and Somewhere Only We Know. But I was in for a big surprise when I heard the entire album. To this day, I consider it the best impulse purchases I ever did. They have been so underrated. I hope the coming generations realize how beautifully relevant their music has been, and keep it alive.
Ladies and gentlemen, the best song in the world performed by the best band in the world, i could listen to this day in day out until my last breath leaves my body and every time this will make the hairs on the back of my neck stand up……absolutely stunning
I know this video has 35 million views, but all that tells me is billions of people are missing out. I can't say enough about this song and video... a profoundly underrated masterpiece.
my cousin went through a very dangerous phase in his life, he heavily addicted to pills and marijuana, he was mad and literally violent at times among other things. People in his family and town despised him he was left on his own. It was painful to see a bright young lad turning into an absolute nut. Today he seems like he is past his troubled state and is incredibly well off all his bad habits, this video reminded me of him and i almost cried the last time i saw this.
I used to have the same problem. It’ll be 10 years clean and sober for me in August this year! This song used to remind me of me! I had this album back in 2005. My life was totally out of control at that time! Respect to your cousin! Only a percentage of people can kick the habit completely, without a relapse!
@@angelrolandomartinez was going to say that, but I think there's Tim Burton's fan after all, if you see the resemblance between this MV and Tim's Corpse Bride, it's uncanny. Thank you for recognizing him (Tim)!
i listened to this as a kid and for the last few years have tried finding this song by asking "do you know the music video with the homeless man and a cat and its so beautiful and sad?" im so glad ive finally found it again

This is probably the only time I can actually comply with this declaration because, uh... ...THE LEAD VOCALS and their frequency. They're so calm with the way they sound that it's actually disconcerting to listen to, since Tom's shouting also sounds utterly manipulative.
Absolute gem, up there with some Pink Floyd tracks. Im 51, this was out when I was in a dark place & very depressed but this was magical. Stay strong folks, your a long time dead, enjoy everything now x
When I was like 5, my mum showed me this video and I used to be scared of the video since the clay models freaked me out , especially when the kids turn into the bats. 4 years on , I rediscovered this song , and I learnt how amazing this song is , the power and emotion used. I figured that all this time my mum was simply showing me a powerful song. I didn't know till now.
The memories... Keane will always hold a special place in my heart. Whatever i was feeling growing up in my environment they always seemed to understand i could always rely on their music to get me through

@@oldwelshlady6584 I believe it is about a guy who lost everything. This in turn caused him to start going into a state of psychosis where all the demons start showing themselves. Yet he understands the world in a way the whole population can't see. The destruction, the lies, the BS.. In the end he starts seeing through the dark, and everything becomes clear, he notices his shadow for the first time and see's his reflection. And realizes he is a person outlined there in front of him. That shadow is his proof of existence, and his whole posture changes and he stands upright and looks hopeful about the future.. Why isn’t music beautiful like this anymore? Just imagine the masterpieces there could be, if these new bands were to put that much thought into something to make it beautiful. Fan for life
I find it moving how this song cares for so many aspects of sensitive situations, whether it’d be death, mental health or famine, it always deeply touches me and is done so well because of this

I remember 18 years ago, staying on the college bus after it pulled into the station, letting everyone else off and waiting for this song to finish. It was one of the darkest times of my life, but this song felt relatable as well as giving me hope. I didn't know it would be playing over a decade later while I was in labour with my son. This music speaks to my soul and feels a bit like the soundtrack to my life. Pure magic ✨❤

Tom puts so much emotion in his singing it feels like a sword that traspases the soul. A pleasurable pain... No doubt This is a masterpeice !!! Long Live Keane!!!
this is a masterpiece, just like keane themselves. brit music is kinda nosalgic and sad... but it makes you feel ALIVE

It’s this what cements Hopes and Fears as one of those ageless masterpieces. Gives me chills every time this song.
Couldn't agree with you more!
Eugene Morice so stop putting out his private life..ffs
Eugene, not matter what. Your friend says. Keep asking. One day he might get tired of u asking and do something with u. Don't let him die alone. He may be a proud man but even the proud and strong break. He just don't want to look weak. Don't give up. Coming from someone who's been thete. My heart is with u buddy.

One of the greatest music videos of all time. Fantastic.

:c
Just cried my eyes out and seen them live back in the day. But sometimes you hear the lyrics and they resonate.
It's true
I forgot how good this song was. Really pulls on the heartstring’s. To anybody feeling down, there is always light at the end of the tunnel. Before you think there is no other option, just think for a minute. You are a beautiful human being, you deserve life as much as anyone else, you are perfect in your own ways, you are irreplaceable. Xx
Excellent message. If only everyone had this drummed into them from childhood.

Muchas gracias.

Glad you have this magical power in your heart.

I also used to find this video really scary
Damn right brother. Rapist and child molesters say the same. Some people will never accept them as they are and always think of them as monsters, but the monster are actually everyone else.
Many's the time I ran with you down
The rainy roads of our old town
Many the lives we lived in each day
And buried altogether
Don't laugh at me
Don't look away
You'll follow me back
With the sun in your eyes
And on your own
Bedshaped
And legs of stone
You'll knock on my door
And up we'll go
In white light
I don't think so
But what do I know?
What do I know?
I know!
I know you think I'm holding you down
And I've fallen by the wayside now
And I don't understand the same things as you
But I do
Don't laugh at me
Don't look away
You'll follow me back
With the sun in your eyes

One of the best songs in the world for me. I listened to this when I was ten on tv, but didn't know who it was by or when it came out until now. I've been searching for this song for the past THREE YEARS now. Definitely worth it.

You should have listened Slayer.:).Love this song anyway
I can't listen to this song without crying.
In 2004 this song (along with the album) literally saved my life.

I’ve always thought he is one of the most haunting male vocalists.
I can't watch this video now without crying. There was this homeless man always waiting on the bridge, he passed away under the bridge recently. Oh I hope you're in heaven with God now, please.

This is the definition of music. This for me is life. FOREVER KEANE!

I used to watch this video on the music channels on tv when i was about 6 years old. It was probably the first time in my life where music had an incredibly profound effect on me. The combination of the music and the video mesmerised and left me weeping as a child and my mother frequently recalls those moments to me to this day. I hope the coming generations realize how beautifully relevant their music has been, and keep it alive.

my cousin went through a very dangerous phase in his life, he heavily addicted to pills and marijuana, he was mad and literally violent at times among other things.

Fan for life
Have you heard Coldplay Coloratura?
look a little harder.
Mogwai- take me somewhere nice
Thrilled
There's still great music. But why isn't Keane so good anymore...
leeiste mi alma xD :(
I find it moving how this song cares for so many aspects of sensitive situations, whether it’d be death, mental health or famine, it always deeply touches me and is done so well because of this
Hermosa canción el sol es una estrella 😍💫🌟💫
Many's the time I ran with you down
The rainy roads of our old town
Many the lives we lived in each day
And buried altogether
Don't laugh at me
Don't look away
You'll follow me back
With the sun in your eyes
And on your own
Bedshaped
And legs of stone
You'll knock on my door
And up we'll go
In white light
I don't think so
But what do I know?
What do I know?
I know!
I know you think I'm holding you down
And I've fallen by the wayside now
And I don't understand the same things as you
But I do
Don't laugh at me
Don't look away
You'll follow me back
With the sun in your eyes
And on your own
Bedshaped
And legs of stone
You'll knock on my door
And up we'll go
In white light
I don't think so
But what do I know?
What do I know?
I know!
And up we'll go
In white light
I don't think so
But what do I know?
What do I know?
I know!

Tarana Ferdous I always heard 'the rainy routes of borrowed time'
I remember 18 years ago, staying on the college bus after it pulled into the station, letting everyone else off and waiting for this song to finish. It was one of the darkest times of my life, but this song felt relatable as well as giving me hope. I didn't know it would be playing over a decade later while I was in labour with my son.
This music speaks to my soul and feels a bit like the soundtrack to my life. Pure magic ✨❤
