Lyrics below:
Many's the time I ran with you down
The rainy roads of our old town
Many the lives we lived in each day
And buried all together
Don't laugh at me
Don't look away
You'll follow me back
With the sun in your eyes
And on your own
Bedshaped on legs of stone
You'll knock on my door
And up we'll go
In white light
I don't think so
But what do I know? What do I know?
I know
I know you think I'm holding you down
And I've fallen by the wayside now
And I don't understand the same things as you
But I do
Don't laugh at me
Don't look away
You'll follow me back
With the sun in your eyes
And on your own
Bedshaped on legs of stone
You'll knock on my door
And up we'll go
In white light
I don't think so
But what do I know? What do I know?
I know
Oh, and up we'll go
In white light
I don't think so
But what do I know? What do I know?
I know

Gracias.
H&F it's a complete beauty ❤ but my fav will always be everybodys changing 💖
I’m an ex drug addict, I have been clean for 12 years now.
I got this album for Christmas 2004 and I totally related to this song. It brings back so many dark memories. I’m glad I changed my life.
Michael Scott Goes to show how strong you are. Total respect for you x
Esi Henry, thank you.
Legend man ❤️❤️👌👌
Marc Tougher, thank you.
I'm so happy for you!
10 years! 10 years it took me to find this song! I was 14 when it was on music tv chanel. Couple of days later on radio. And then, nothing.. Didn't know much of an english, but now, today, I heard it again on radio. Hope everyone will enjoy it as much as I do! :))
Faust Von Barley EXCELLENT!! GOOD!!
Bro i feel for you iv been in that scenario but thankfully iv been in love with this song for that last 10 years!!
Faust Von Barley I know that feeling. Won't happen any more thanks to Shazam and Soundhound
u still alive, dude?
it took me 10 years too to find it, found it today
What a brilliant song! I am nearly 71yrs old and can still enjoy a great group. Their songs are so expressive of real life!
Good that you appreciate good music at your age , I'm there age and hope I can too later in life , take care 😊
The album on which this song appears (Hopes and Fears) was released 22 years ago in 2002, when you were 49. I was 14 at the time and the album helped me alot back then. We live in an incredible time - where songs from decades ago (certainly those older than this!) can reach new ears and make new changes in the world - and these are all at our fingertips to discover...
I AM 171 year old.... lier!!!
@@andosaurush Liar , the album was released on may the 10th 2004
If it's all at your finger tips how come you can't check facts about release dates before slavering a lot of rubbish in the comments section ?
By far their best written song. Musically and lyrically. A song that stands the test of time amongst the giants of pop music history. Any musician would have been proud to have made this.
And the artistic production in the video. It is heavenly beautiful.
True
Totally agree with you , they never got the credit they deserved they never made a bad song , every single had meaning to them , again this is by far there best written/lyrically song
I agree
Keane is so underrated. I wish people realize how great their music is.
Of course we do
I really believe this is one of the greatest music videos of all time.
Underrated is the new overrated in 2020.
We know how great they are, trust me, they are incredible.
Keane has always been one of my favourite. So tallented
The video is an absolute heartbreaker.
I cant watch the video but love the song ❤
This song is about every single person on this planet
It sure is. It makes me cry the song is so beautiful
This song destroyed me 18 years ago and now... it still does ❤️
I'm 36 and was listening to this as a teen abused and broken with no hope. Now I'm 36, have 4 kids, a home and everything I need. I've never turned to drink or drugs, don't have a record etc.... My kids have me a life and a reason.
Awesome ❤
Glad you survived!!!!🎉🎉🎉, Ive had my share of ups and downs!!! Just discovered KEANE, Love Him, I listened to Coldplay alot but for some reason it wasn't played alot in theUSA( not in Cleveland, Ohio) glad i found it!!!!
I was in depression for like a couple of years during college, now that I’m almost making my dreams come true I feel so happy, but it’s nice to come back after a long time to this song, it reminds me how hard it was and I admire myself 🫶🏻
I'm in university at the moment and my time at university has been the worst years of my life. I'm in my last semester so it will all be over soon but I have deadlines coming up and I'm being hit hard by feelings of self-doubt and general feelings of sadness. I'm glad you're making your dreams come true, hopefully I can do the same once I finish university. Many thanks for sharing this comment.
Glad you have this magical power in your heart.
I'm sure you're so glad to have something so beautiful to remind you of your past struggles.... a blessing in disguise
I just left a period of 20 years of depression. Best feeling in the world.
Si
I think this is one of those songs you never get tired of. You can never overplay this. It’s simply too amazing.
Super Girl simply beautiful melts my soul!!
Exactly. All the songs on this album could play for eternity and I wouldn't mind a bit.
Hopes and Fears. Their best album imo. Although the next one was pretty special as well.
It is super depressing too.
Super Girl this is my favorite kean song
This isn't a simple song, it's the inner liberation of an individual from darkness to light. It's very healing, therapeutic and that's something that few have managed to do within the music industry. Congratulations on a great achievement!
this is a masterpiece, just like keane themselves. brit music is kinda nosalgic and sad... but it makes you feel ALIVE
It’s this what cements Hopes and Fears as one of those ageless masterpieces. Gives me chills every time this song.
Couldn't agree with you more!
I can't listen to this song without crying.
In 2004 this song (along with the album) literally saved my life.
I was in a very dark place.
It's 2021 and I've only just been able to come back to this.
I'm balling, but it's easy now.
Thank you Keane. ❤️🙏🏻
Wow!! Amazing how two people can share a dark experience and turn to the same band for reassurance or something to fall back on. I still listen to "Hopes and Fears" and "Under the Iron Sea" albums to this very day, and Bedshaped is still among the top 7 songs I listen to whenever I need a kinda boost in my state of being. Great to have read your comment. It beamed up my day. Good music taste you have too. Cheers and God bless.
Stay strong!
Me too
Im autistic been struggling with social anxiety, not being understood, overstimulated by lights, movements, everything, life can be hard. Im very happy this song touched others and im sending hugs! I wonder what inspired Tom to write sing like that and choose this particular animation..
It is extremely thought provoking and dark at times which you almost crave... iam glad the album has happier times for you now... it's a remarkable piece of music
I think this is one of the most beautiful songs in the history of songs
truly, one of the saddest too
Yes also crystal ball is a beautiful song also
Who’s here in 2024 😢❤ amazing how fast life goes
Unfortunately you are correct 😢❤
Me 😊❤
🎉❤🎉m here, lovn the song
Here, harmony blown away
Twenty years is too many 😭
A couple of years ago a friend of mine I knew well back in my teens died suddenly. He was a father, and in fact his partner found out a week or so after he passed that she was pregnant. It's both tragic and beautiful at the same time. He seemed to be really settling into his life. He was a total rockstar, like a Yorkshire Jack Black, musically talented and charismatic. His folks chose this to play at his funeral and I hadn't cried for the duration, right until the chorus. It's a great song, and even if he wasn't a fan of Keane I'm sure he'd have approved. He knew a good song. Miss you Jake, thinking of you today.
I feel bad for not stopping to think about so many people who suffer alone out there without help or even dignity. We are so used to judging that we forget that others are also human beings experiencing problems. This song makes me reflective and with a certain sadness.
ñ
This song came out when my son was diagnosed with autism and he always wondered why he was treated different at school with other pupils making fun off him, laughing at him, he felt alone and would hide in the toilets all the time not interacting with anyone. I dont blame the pupils for they didn't understand either and the were infants. But it did leave a unforgettable impression on his mind, he is a person without any physical disabilities, but an invisible disability. How many people grew up with it and were classed as trouble makers.
:c
Just cried my eyes out and seen them live back in the day. But sometimes you hear the lyrics and they resonate.
It's true

This song and video helped me to understand my wife's alcoholism as she fought against it in an seemingly unwinnable war. Well, she did win in 2004 thanks to the Lord and we've never looked back. It'll be her 20th sobriety birthday next year. Don't ever give up hope folks. Miracles really do happen.
Social Anxiety being depicted perfectly here. Such meaningful, underrated song and clip.
I'd say its more about self worth
@@paimon6286 I'd say the two are inextricably linked
Spot on.
It's about alcoholism/drug-abuse but I'm sure the general meaning can be interpreted as you did.

I forgot how good this song was. Really pulls on the heartstring’s. To anybody feeling down, there is always light at the end of the tunnel. Xx
Excellent message. If only everyone had this drummed into them from childhood.

Muchas gracias.

It hurts my soul that people only know them (if they do) as "the Somewhere only we know band". They've released so many gems over the years.
I have a mate who is dying of cancer. He lives alone and gets frailer by the day. He's a proud fella I think and is desperate to walk this path alone. I spoke to him before Christmas and offered to come around to see him, but he turned me down because he said he wasn't up to seeing me. He's been through a massive amount in his life (he's 54). 2 broken marriages, epilepsy, blindness and alcoholism.... but he's a stubborn sod ! This song reminds me of all that he's been through, all that he continues to go through and all his battles. God bless ya Colin !
Eugene Morice so stop putting out his private life..ffs
Eugene, not matter what. Your friend says. Keep asking. One day he might get tired of u asking and do something with u. Don't let him die alone. He may be a proud man but even the proud and strong break. He just don't want to look weak. Don't give up. Coming from someone who's been thete. My heart is with u buddy.

I watched this video for first time when i was like seven years old, this video was the scariest thing i've ever seen, i didn't wanted to watch it again, but the time passed and, yesterday, i listened this song in the radio, and today, after watching the video i realized that it wasn't the scariest thing, but it is the most real thing that you can see, some people aren't going to accept you like you are, no matter how hard you try to change, you will be always a monster for them, when the real monsters are they.
Keane, you are one of the most symbolic bands you can listen.
I also used to find this video really scary
Damn right brother. Rapist and child molesters say the same. Some people will never accept them as they are and always think of them as monsters, but the monster are actually everyone else.
Tom puts so much emotion in his singing it feels like a sword that traspases the soul. A pleasurable pain... No doubt This is a masterpeice !!! Long Live Keane!!!
I remember first seeing this when I was a small child and feeling really sad for him even though I knew it wasn't real I think it was the atmosphere that got to me. Still hits me now as an adult

I showed this to my youngest child when he was about 12 years old. I could see then how moved he was with the video. He is now 23. I showed him because I worked in child protection and I associated the main character in the video with a child I had been working with who felt scared at every turn she made. It is still the most haunting and moving video I have ever seen. Keane are my absolute fav band even still in 2024
Introduced this to my youngest son when he was 10. Last night we went to see Keane at Birmingham, celebrating the 20th anniversary of this album. Still relevant. Hauntingly beautiful song.
4:01 - that note sends shivers down my spine 20 years on!

You have to travel to some dark places in your life to be able to create this type of music. It is art.

Back in 2004, I bought Hopes and Fears CD based on what I'd heard on TV: Everybody's Changing and Somewhere Only We Know. But I was in for a big surprise when I heard the entire album. To this day, I consider it the best impulse purchases I ever did. They have been so underrated. I hope the coming generations realize how beautifully relevant their music has been, and keep it alive.
I remember 18 years ago, staying on the college bus after it pulled into the station, letting everyone else off and waiting for this song to finish. It was one of the darkest times of my life, but this song felt relatable as well as giving me hope. I didn't know it would be playing over a decade later while I was in labour with my son.
This music speaks to my soul and feels a bit like the soundtrack to my life. Pure magic ✨❤
When I was like 5, my mum showed me this video and I used to be scared of the video since the clay models freaked me out , especially when the kids turn into the bats. 4 years on , I rediscovered this song , and I learnt how amazing this song is , the power and emotion used. I figured that all this time my mum was simply showing me a powerful song. I didn't know till now.
Your mom was amazing!
You are loved!
My daughter 5 yrs too love this song but also scared.she cry and say to me that the monster in the song has no family and she feels sorry.
So you're nine?
That's weird, this is the exact same thing that happened to me, but I only rediscovered this song 10 years later (today)
Absolute gem, up there with some Pink Floyd tracks. Im 51, this was out when I was in a dark place & very depressed but this was magical. Stay strong folks, your a long time dead, enjoy everything now x
in my opinion , one of the best songs ever made
can't disagree. one day it will be seen for the masterpiece it actually is. in fact, 'master peace' seems more fitting

I was in a bad place, i sold my dog to buy drugs and alcohol, i used to hit my wife a lot, spent some time in prison, i was gang-raped, stabbed, left for dead. The only reminder of hearing this song as a kid help me got through, i actually sang the lyrics wrong haha. Now i’m clean, with two beautiful kids and a parrot, saving to buy a house and prevent the same thing from happening to my kids. Thanks Keane!
Thats just an attention seeking story. And if its not. Idc how much youve changed you have traumatized people and ruined lives. But dw you have a parrot now
God bless you brother
If these three men wrote this entire masterpiece, it means they know what being sad and depressed feels like. I say this because people who suffer from depression might think no one else understands how they feel. The three members of Keane DO, and DID when they wrote this masterpiece back in 2004.
Yes thats why I love music it communicates unfiltered!! Im autistic and this song is special to me
@@lovorka3321 I'm also autistic and this song speaks to me. I just saw an autistic barman absolutely fecking make this song his own and I'm pretty sure the lead singer of Keane is an undiagnosed autistic person and I feel this song is about feeling different and feeling ostracised by society.
Um...the song isn't about depression you know
Lol they did not wrote that. And the song is about feeling left behind
I see that a lot of people is saying their interpretations of the song, I think that is great that a song can have different interpretations but in words of rice-oxley bedshaped is about when you think you have been left behind by an old friend or a lover and about hoping that you'll be reunited one day
if this isn’t played at my funeral, i’m not going.
😂💯 .... Comment of the song goes to ☝️.... 👏👏
its a great song indeed, my departed best friend asked me to listen to this song
for fuck sake I thought the same thing
Nub soul hello
Brilliant comment, Hope it's a long way off
But yes it is a lovely song.
That's just funny.
This is one of the greatest songs of all time.
Still listening to this song in 2023, 19 years after discovering Keane and this album.
Anyone listening to this while the world is falling appart ?
This song deserved 1B Views
Mini Pekka “deserved”? It can still get there y’know.
This band deserves more than just views.
Who cares about views likes social media = cancer
This is probably the only time I can actually comply with this declaration because, uh...
...THE LEAD VOCALS and their frequency. They're so calm with the way they sound that it's actually disconcerting to listen to, since Tom's shouting also sounds utterly manipulative.
I used to watch this video on the music channels on tv when i was about 6 years old. It was probably the first time in my life where music had an incredibly profound effect on me. The combination of the music and the video mesmerised and left me weeping as a child and my mother frequently recalls those moments to me to this day. Ever since then I have been fascinated by the sad beauty found in music and its ability to move me emotionally. Incredible song and video.
No words to describe what this song makes me feel.
One of the most underrated songs of its time.... Beautiful
I know this video has 35 million views, but all that tells me is billions of people are missing out. I can't say enough about this song and video... a profoundly underrated masterpiece.
I agree. This is one of those music videos that needs a billion views.
The music from Hopes and Fears is incredible, but the MVs of the era were so special. Artistic and heartwrenching.
Totally agree!!
A classic, an absolute classic,
One of my all time favourites. I still pull out Hopes and Fears to listen to this song, and then end up listening to the entire album a few times.

2004 what a year for Keane
Rarely have I listened to this without at least two tears in my eyes.
Beautiful.
my cousin went through a very dangerous phase in his life, he heavily addicted to pills and marijuana, he was mad and literally violent at times among other things. People in his family and town despised him he was left on his own. It was painful to see a bright young lad turning into an absolute nut.
Today he seems like he is past his troubled state and is incredibly well off all his bad habits, this video reminded me of him and i almost cried the last time i saw this.
I used to have the same problem. It’ll be 10 years clean and sober for me in August this year! This song used to remind me of me! I had this album back in 2005. My life was totally out of control at that time! Respect to your cousin! Only a percentage of people can kick the habit completely, without a relapse!
It is good news he is now ok.
i listened to this as a kid and for the last few years have tried finding this song by asking "do you know the music video with the homeless man and a cat and its so beautiful and sad?" im so glad ive finally found it again
I saw them Live this year! You should hear their latest stuff. bloody amazing
I remember back then when I was around 6 or 7 years old whenever my dad show me this music video,I just start crying.Because I felt sad for the claymation dude like really.
What a masterpiece and such depth of topic in beautiful artistry and hard hitting melody-mental illness, homelessness, alcoholism, depression and anxiety, bipolarism. Such a plight for the misunderstood and socially excluded of the population ❤️❤️❤️❤️
I find it moving how this song cares for so many aspects of sensitive situations, whether it’d be death, mental health or famine, it always deeply touches me and is done so well because of this
It hurts, but I really love this song 😭
3:53 that drum fill never fails to send a chill down my spine. so powerful.
You should have listened Slayer.:).Love this song anyway
I forgot how amazing this song is
Its so amazing, i remember when it was on the radio like...10 years ago..
Just picked up CD 2day all their music is epic..
lol true
Rose Tyler So true, my favourite band ever.
Pearcewreck they are absolutely brilliant good taste :-D:-D
I remember I used to relate to this song so much. I've been depressed nearly all my life. I don't remember being truly happy. 33 now.
sending love
Was the same for me, so congratulations for holding on until now. I believe you will be rewarded and it will all have been worth it.
Always light at the end of the tunnel suffering with it too 💙
Keane will have forever my heart
This song has been a part of my life ever since I was born. I grew up listening to their music (I’m 17) Their music always gives me such a sad nostalgia feeling, the old memories from when I was a kid, when life was pure and happy. Before the chaos happened. I almost cry whenever I listen to this song, only because memories rush through my mind of my happy little life. I would do anything to be a child again.
It makes me nostalgic too, very nostalgic, I cry my heart out for it
Don't worry, times will get better again 🤗🌠, I'm 37 - miss the times before pandemic too, even though I never thought that possible!
There could be a time, you miss these days ! It could always be worse , enjoy your life you have many years ahead and you own the steering wheel 💫🙏
It gets better, Olivia. And then worse again for a bit, and then better again. Life is full of peaks and declines. You're only 17 - and trust me, in another 17 years, you'll reminisce about how life was simple right where you are now. You're doing okay. Hold on to your memories and move onward.
"I would do anything to be a child again" 💯👍
read your message it made me feel sad. stay strong talk to someone better times are ahead im sure.
This album is easily one of the best ever written.
+Chris Jones (Goldlw1) so true
The musicality of this composer is simply stunning.
One of the greatest songs of the 21st century IMO. I will never tire of it.
This song hurts.
I love your hair :33
Me? .-.
Yes :33
Awh thanks ^-^
+PotatoSalad hurts so bad :c
This whole album was a masterpiece.
the bridge and chorus are absolutely epic
The world is a mean place... Only 43 million views for this masterpiece...
I can't watch this video now without crying. There was this homeless man always waiting on the bridge, he passed away under the bridge recently. Oh I hope you're in heaven with God now, please.
You made me cry 😢
What?
Idk why always try to cry with this beautiful song😢. Is it normal?
It does the same to me, you're completely normal
This is a musical masterpiece and one of my favourite songs ever. Gives me Goosebumps every time.
Am I the only one who considers 3:35 synth solo so satisfying?
It's the best part of the song
nop u are not the only one
It's what makes the song for me, I love a good synth, another reason why I miss 00s music so much, music was so much better then
Do you know songs in the style of this song?
@@chihiro8758 the style itself is called “alternative rock” maybe you can look song up like that on TH-cam☺️
Maybe 2 or 3 bands with exceptional music in this millennium, these guys 1 of them.
