I haven't done any exams yet, and I don't really want to. I'm happy to follow my teachers' advice and learn things at my own pace. I am playing the first 10 pieces of Burgmuller but am transposing them into the keys with up to 3 sharps or flats. My ear is improving but am frustrated that some things that should be simple are a challenge. But my teacher says that playing the piano is difficult and to keep persisting.
I’m doing my level 5 exam in 4 days. I’m kind of nervous but I’m trying not to think too much about it. This is my first RCM exam but not my first piano exam...
I’m doing my exam in like two weeks and I’m super scared... First I went from grades 1-6 then I switched teachers and she was mean so I dropped down back to level 2. I switched teachers again and then I was dropped back to level 1! Then from level 1, I’ve progressed to level 5 now currently. My life sucks ;(
I know I’m late but there was probably a reason you were dropped down, be it poor technique, poor rhythm, poor theory. Often teachers will rush a student, skipping out vital things such as techniques or studies. It can be boring, however I’ve never seen a teacher do that for no reason. Have you talked with your teacher? Finding out why they moved you down can be a good starting point and it lets you figure out your weaknesses so you can work on them. Good luck with your playing!
It would be great if you did a video on how teachers can get started with ABRSM....would really appreciate it! I am getting into RCM (slowly) but have not gotten in the ABRSM yet
I must be the odd one out... I found the gap between grade 3 - 4 a bit overwhelming, whilst 4 - 5 is much easier to me. Also, it took me around 2 years and 8 months to get to grade 5 level. I also adore list A and find the Baroque pieces easier to learn. List C is my bane.
I'm on the border between 4 and 5, but find myself practicing more advanced pieces that are a little beyond me because I haven't found songs I like. For previous grades, your picks were helpful starting points.
Hi Allysia. I got a question for you. I'm an adult beginner student who only started learning piano 3 years ago. I have no prior music training or learning. Just last year I've done my Abrsm grade 3 piano exam (got a distinction) but now my teacher advises me to take grade 6 exam piano exam next year. What do you think about the sudden jump from grade 3 to 6? Do you think it's too fast of a jump and that I should slow down? Or do you have any remarks or advice you can give me?
