    Supernote has had a hardware roadmap for a while, and it was updated at the end of February with some interesting and surprisingly transparent information. I thought that it would be useful to share this information with the MDG viewers, so that you know what to expect and when, in regards to new devices from Ratta and in the Supernote family of products.

    "Because there is no significant difference between A5X and A5X2, we do not encourage A5X users to upgrade." And with this single statement, Ratta just got a new customer. I've been researching e-ink tablets for a while now. I think my search is concluded.

      That's chiefly why I'm choosing supernote over boox. Yeah color and faster refresh times would be nice but I'd much rather support a company that's honest.

    12:11 - Very impressive, indeed! I purchased an A5X not too long ago because of Ratta's amazing approach to everything, perhaps especially the idea that they don't want customers to upgrade unnecessarily. Mind absolutely blown. As a traveling Structural engineer, I want an A4 size with a custom template to upload our company letterhead graph paper to make calculations. That would be great for my uses. Allowing a print to pdf and insert printouts into the calculation pages to make a full calculation package. That would be perfect. If it had Microsoft OneDrive support to link to my office workflow even better. And if it could open my Microsoft OneNote tabs and pages it would be a dream. At any rate, a4 would be ideal. Hopefully it will launch later this year.

Tho now I am thinking I will add an a4 size to the gadget family! Really appreciate your channel. I switched from boox to supernote based solely on your end of year "awards" and have been very happy. Thanks for all the great advice and good humor!

      Have you been disappointed not having a devise that's back-lit for night reading? Just curious, as I'm making a decision on what to purchase?

    • @markdc20005
      @markdc20005 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @chrishamilton1189 it would be nice to have the light but I have a couple other ereaders (oasis and scribe) that are lit so i dont need a light very often. The supernote has the best writing screen, stylus, tools and features of the 3 I've tried (boox, scribe and supernote) so the lack of light is more than made up for by the overall supernote experience. If I planned to do all my reading on this device I'd probably want the back light more but boox is so cluttered and overdone (in my opinion) and scribe is still an ereader with writing capabilities, that supernote is still my preferred choice, even without a back light.

    Thanks for another awesome video! I recently purchased a SN after owing about 1/2 dozen BOOX devices. While BOOX makes a great product, the SN has quickly become my go to device. Everything it does it does well and everything works just the way you want it to. This is one of the benefits of having a policy of working on genuine improvements rather than releasing new models and buggy software updates every month just to have something new to hype.

    • @InquisitiveEngineer
      @InquisitiveEngineer ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have two Boox devices and a Supernote A5X, and the SN just feels so much more *robust*. I can toss it in my bag (with cover installed) and not worry about whether it might accidentally get bent or snapped pressing against a book because it's not cardboard-thin. With my Boox Note 2, I was always nervous (and therefore hesitant to take it anywhere, thus defeating the purpose of having it in the first place).

    Voja, I just read the following on Reddit - Supernote, which provides a bit more detail about the soon-to-be released A5 Linux version: Supernote's chief reporting officer said:
    Yes, A5 Slim will be similar in thickness to the rM2. This means it will be extremely flexible unlike the rM2 which is more rigid thanks to it's metal frame.
    Also be aware that the A5 Slim will run on a simpler bare bones Linux OS that will only have basic note taking and reading functionality like in the original A5 linux models. If you want features like Kindle, Word document editing and the ability to side load Apps in the future, then this device is not going to meet your needs no matter how thin it is - go for the A5X!
    So, I was glad to learn the A5 Slim will be bare bones compared to the A5X. That information helps a ton.

    The one thing I really hope they offer is a color option other than bright white. This makes the screen look much more grey than the competition, even though it is not. A charcoal grey housing would create the impression of a brighter screen with more contrast.

      @InquisitiveEngineer ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I could go for a light gray housing, but the light bezel was actually one of the selling points of a Supernote for me. With my old Boox device, the dark bezel made it feel like I was using a device, while the light SN bezel is easier on the eye for me and makes it feel more like using magic paper.

    I prefer my A5X to my NA2+ for a variety of reasons, but I am intrugued by the thought of an A4X. I have a Tab X which is the 13.3" size, of course, and enjoy the reading and writing option of the larger device. So, a large sized Supernote may be appealing once we know more about the actual device. Thanks, Voja, for your work on these videos which are very helpful!

    I hope Ratta would also incorporate an SD card slot. They can slip it in near the removable battery under the battery cover. Not only will this help functionality, but with the dual boot OS, it is going to use even more of the 32GB internal storage. Plus, you can still move your files over with the SD card instead of a cable if need be. Especially if, God forbid, something happened to the device or it malfunctions.
    Either way, I have been looking into a device like these, and I decided on Retta's Suprnote. However, as it turs out, I decided a little too late. The A6X has been sold out by the time I was ready to purchase. The A6 size is perfect for what I need it for. The A6X2 would be even better for me because I have longed for the days of returning to removable batteries.
    Additionally, their transparency and business model is what really sold me on the company. I think they have a clear vision and understanding of their "Why."

    Don't understand the need to change battery, unless it is prone to break I guess. With how long it takes before you need to charge them, my guess is they would last at least around 10 years before you might notice any significant degradation. Though I guess other factors might impact batteries except for charging cycles, just that I don't know of them.

      I like the reassurance that you have got a device for life. You are no longer anxious that the battery might stop working at some point and you can't use your device anymore. You might even lose files that you can no longer access if you can't change the battery. It shows that they really care about the customer. I would wait until the A5X 2 comes out just for this feature. It reassures me a lot. I am recharging my Kindle device more often after a few years so I am worried about this sort of thing.

      Absolutely. In fact, A5X is my personal device of choice for writing. However, keep in mind that it doesn't try to have, or have the paper like scratchiness that some people prefer. It's more like a gel pen, and I really love that feel.

But from your videos it seems like a very satisfying experience to write on an A5X, so I'm hoping my lack of first-hand knowledge doesn't work against me. What would be the main difference between linux and android from a user perspective?

    • @sdothum
      @sdothum ปีที่แล้ว +1

      My guess: the planned app store. Apps like Kindle reader will likely not be available on the linux platform (it was probably difficult enough to modify that android app to run on Chauvet. i don't have the A5 so don't know to what extent features like real-time OCR, docx format, planned features for drawing, etc. will be available for linux. Android, although based on linux, is more "bloated" in comparison but also, due to it's phone/tablet applicaton heritage, has extensive libraries for UI to use. Linux may be leaner and squeeze out a bit of performance and probably allow users to inject their own scripts/apps to further customize the device to their own workflow needs but most users i surmise will stick with the broader range of polished android apps and functionality.

    • @ChiaDai
      @ChiaDai ปีที่แล้ว

    It's frightening that I've been so brainwashed by modern technology companies that if the device isn't upgraded or replaced with something 'new' every year, I actually feel like I'm missing something. Even when I know that it's basically the same device in a slightly different form, I hesitate to buy a 2 or 3 year old piece of tech for fear that it will become obsolete the moment I start using it. I hope that the Ratta's approach will become more common, as it is better for environment, people and our wallets.

    • @pablobelaubre2457
      @pablobelaubre2457 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Long answer, all speculating :
      Contrary to a5x2 and a6x2 wich are in prototype or already beeing tested pre-release, the a4x2 is in pre research, so quite early in the process. I wouldnt bet on too much given it s a long way from the finished product. They might not know for sure yet and wait for the results they get with the smaller models.
      That said, the the SLIM characteristic they are advertising does make sence on an A4 model as it implied the weight is the limiting factor and priority.
      As a ipad/max lumi user, i can relate that an A4 model clogged with too much hardware, including a heavy battery and more layers of whatever, it does weight on your arms in the long run. So if it's a case of one thing OR the other (slim and light OR replaceable batteries) then it makes sence for them to focus on the weight upon anything else.
