My father's side of my family is from Poland. I grew up with the food, but not the language. Nothing was more humbling than trying to speak Polish on our first trip. Kudos to Nick for learning it, because it is not an easy language.
Szczecin has a different vibe than most Polish cities- a gloomy melancholy dominated by fog and much German architecture. But it's a quiet charm once you grasp it. The Hanseatic spirit of adventure at sea lives there.
Don't give up on Szczecin, it's a great place. My wife is from there and so we're regular visitors, we were there in November and are booked to return in March. There is lots to see in Szczecin and in the surrounding area. A trip up to the Baltic coast we would recommend or to a place called Nowe Warpno by the Szczecin lagoon. Cafe 22 gives views of the city from the 22nd floor of what is known as the Pazim building. There are many restaurants and cafes in Szczecin to suit most tastes. The Christmas market you visited is on Plac Lotnikow and my mother-in-law lives very nearby !!
2:10 To nie jest "dżewo". To jest "drzewo". You'll can be surprised but in Polish we distinguish these little things ;) Try "może" and "morze". I love you. Have a good time in Poland :)
How did Nick do with his Polish?
Bardzo dobrze :)

Definitely not the easiest language, but I’m trying for Anna’s side of the family!
