Corgi restoration Ford Thunderbird sport convertible No. 215. Toy 1959, die-cast model.

The Ford Thunderbird Convertible appeared in the Corgi catalog in 1959. It is superbly designed when it comes to the details of the body. It was featured as one of many vehicles on the cover of the catalog. The model is very heavy because the interior is made of metal. My Ford had a smashed windshield on the passenger side and was missing two tires. In the video I showed two ways to repair the windshield. In the first method, I made a silicone mold and made a copy of the PET glass pane using the vacuum method. In the second method, I cut the missing element out of transparent polypropylene and I pasted it on an American-made glue, which becomes transparent after drying. I made black-dyed polyurethane tires. I also made the box compatible with the original one. It’s funny, I wouldn’t be alive today without one of those cool T-Birds. A young girl fell in love with one back in 1957…then she noticed the driver. They eventually became my parents. 😂

My dad bought my mom a red '65 Thunderbird convertible for Xmas that year.
First time she drove it, she backed into the tree at the end of our driveway.
(I was 6 at the time and was sitting in the back seat so I remember it vividly) 🤣

We loved the American cars Corgi put out: Impala, Buick Riviera, T'Bird, Mustang fastback, Stingray, Corvair, Plymouth wagon, because those are what we saw on the road back then. Dinky Toys seemed to keep with English and Continental vehicles.

Very nicely done.! My Dad has the real 1959 Thunderbird convertible parked in his garage. Very fun to drive with a smooth 300 hp V8 under the hood. I helped him restore it when I was a kid 35 years ago. Funny how Corgi chose to paint these models in the strange red and yellow combination. Ford had many beautiful colours to choose from; Dad's is creamy white with turquoise interior. Can't wait to drive it once again...
