- In 1965, the Mettoy company produced the first Ford Thames Ice Cream Van models. The basis for the model was Ford Anglia. To display subtitles in your language at the bottom of the video, please press C on your computer or the three dots on your mobile in the video.
This toy has gained many followers. It was sold with two figurines. A year later, a version with a cranked music box was created, but without figures. My model comes from the first year of production. Ford did not have figures and I was unable to make a copy. I made a box which is a modification of the version with a music box. My model had been exposed to the sun for a long time, the windows were yellow and dull, the tires were non-existent and the cardboard parts faded. I have made a comprehensive renovation. I made a graphic of the stickers that were sold with the model and cast new tires in black dyed polyurethane. This is another really lovely job, well done! You're inspiring me. It's perfectly timed, too, as I have a scruffy one sitting on my workbench and looking at me imploringly! I still have my original one from childhood - I remember putting the stickers on with my Dad. Sadly it's in need of much work now.

These Ford Thames vans were based on the Anglia saloon car.....an icon of my childhood. I don’t remember seeing one as an ice cream van though 🤔 Beautifully done and a joy to watch 👍🏻👌🏻👏🏻

Just a friendly suggestion but if you want to get the yellowing out try this. 1rst get a sealable container that's clear 2nd wrap all areas but the lid with tin foil after placing part in container add hydrogen peroxide i think a 10% variant cover and place a uv light over it and let sit for 24 hrs and your plastics will be white or clear there's a few toy restorers that use this one or 2 use a paste i think its like a hair care paste

@@PaulRestorer I think that's a bit of a myth Paul, from what I understand, its actually reversing the effects of UV light exposure, bonding back together the formulation of the plastic that has become unstable, I believe its a retardant chemical in the plastic that has become unstable and turns the plastic yellow. Its extremely popular with toy and video game console restorers, which surely wouldn't be the case if it was going to cause harm to there prized possessions.

I have one of these partly restored. It has the wind up chime box fitted to it, not sure what the tune is supposed to be though! I have discovered that Ford Riviera blue is an almost exact colour match. Keep up the good work!

Lovely job and I learnt a few tips. I would advise gently clamping the chassis when drilling etc to avoid injuries. I’m yet to attempt tyre moulds.

Great job, place the sun yellowed plastic parts in a tub of hydrogen peroxcide and put uv light over it for a good few hours, maybe a day or so, and they will look as good as new with no yellowing, 👍🏻

I had this model it had the handle that played a tune but i turned it backwards and it broke off the metal strips so dont be tempted Dont do this.why did some have this and some models not ,id like to know?

There is a channel at TH-cam called TRG Restorations, were a guy restores old Tonka toy trucks, and he uses a solution and an UV light to fix this yellow color in old plastic and acrilic parts. Maybe It can help you in your next restorations. Regards from Brazil!

The Ford Thames Van was based on the Ford Anglia. The Ford Anglia is familiar with fans of Harry Potter (it was the flying car in the second film/book). The Ford Anglia was also the first car my dad owned, when I was born he was on his third Ford Anglia.
