interestingly the frogs in game have a pattern to them. so its 25 frogs total 5×5. there are blue, green, brown, yellow and red frogs and all of those have 4 patterns (striped, swirls, dots and other strips) and a plain one. if you want to finish the collection you can keep that in mind and breed the pattern and the colour you need to get the right frog! hope somebody cares haha
Yes! So few people seem to notice this. If you know how the pattern/colour system works, you can intentionally breed the most valuable frogs to make money from frogs more efficiently.
James, how about a Rags to riches challenge where you are only allowed to buy the most expensive items from each category you need? Most expensive fridge, bed, table, windows, wallpapers and so on. It will be double challenge as you need to make it work and look good in the same time, and also, you need to fully upgrade whatever has the option, like the tv, bathtub, sink and so on. And you must do the same for each item, like each chair, each cabinet, need to be the most expensive the game provides.
I'd love to see a Let's Play completing all the collections. I have a Sim building a collection museum and it's been so much fun. She even has a gift shop to sell off duplicates and the Jungle Adventure knock-offs and such.
For future reference, there are 5 frog base colors, and 5 patterns. When you breed two frogs, it's likely going to inherit these from parents, so you can finish the collection quicker.
It would be awesome to see you do a let's play where you finish all the collections. Maybe set up a room with all your collected items. But this was a fun video thanks James! 💚
I'm trying to do this with my super sim! He is maxing all skills and I'm trying to collect all possible collectibles. So far I think I have 5 or 6 collections complete
I've done that, completed all collections. Then my Sim moved houses and everything was lost due to the bug. I didn't play for a long time so I don't know if they fixed the bug
I completed that .. and felt horrid about eating my loved frogs -.- But the scenario also led me down the rabbit hole of collecting collections. So from completing the actual scenario I've kept playing with my sim for days.
Same with me! I hadn't really collected much before, but I've gotten right into collecting not only frogs but crystals, metals, elements and fossils with my new sim. I've really tried to take it easy and just enjoy getting to know my character and it definitely made playing really fun again!
This is why I'm really enjoying these scenarios. They definitely push me down roads I NEVER travel, lol. I'm thinking of starting one of the legacies where each generation completes a new career because there are some I still haven't played. And this is coming from someone who's played since release year of TS1 and owns almost all the packs for TS4. Active careers especially I avoid like the plague 😂

If you combine the frogs with the selling table, you could probably get fairly rich. I do that a lot with my first couple gens of legacy challenges bc I like not selling things to the void. Also if you have more than one sim in the household you can drag the frogs to their inventory and be able to breed multiple times per day (including toddlers!)
If you put potatoes in aluminium foil and lay it in the coal from your barbecue you got yourself a baked potato too. Pretty common to do in Germany! But it has to be with a charcoal grill!
The level 1 vampire book will give you the ability to turn frogs into plasma packs that sell for $50. I do that with fish and frogs under that value for my R2Rs
has james ever completed all the collectables and displayed them? if not it would be interesting to see a mini let´s play where he has to do it and finish it with building a nice house to fully display them all
When I saw this scenario I thought of James. I can't remember which LP it was but he held onto a frog forever in one of them lol. I did this one in the same lot he chose for pretty much the same reasons. The common frogs took me the longest to get, surprisingly. I second the idea of doing a collections LP. It will definitely be a long one!
Was it the most recent Cottage Living one? He found a frog while he was still living in the “Alley”, and he kept it when he eventually moved onto the farm. I think it still lives in the greenhouse.
I always click the log twice, you get twice the frogs. I do that on the dig options as well. The log and dig sites disappear after the first interaction, but you still get a second collectible. I don't care for collecting, but when I do, I mean business :P
use Carl's guide to help you get it! Depending on the names of the frogs you can figure out which frogs to breed to get the ones you're missing. You won't always get it on first try but you will if you keep trying! For example if you are looking for a spotted heart frog, you can breed a heart frog with a spotted dirt frog and you will eventually get a spotted heart frog!
This scenario took me forever to complete... IDK how long it took me to get the very last item... he did it so fast!! HAHA Pretty sure all I needed was 1 common frog to finish the scenario too...

Yes! I forget the exact wording but you have to call for the frogs and then they're available for a limited window of time, then there's a timer to wait before you can do it again.
I never realized the Collector trait might disadvantage someone from finding the common items. I wonder if that impacted when I tried to play the Herbalism skill, I could never finish the insects. I know they are bugged but it made no sense that I found more rares than commons. I think it happened in archaeology too.
I did this scenario (also made a point of completing the curator aspiration!) and it took me too long to realize I could just put a pond on my own lot lol
This is so strange. I just played this scenario yesterday and chose the same house to live in 😆 Also, James: it says “catch OR breed” so yes catching each frog was counting towards the challenge
I also found that curator trait made finding the common frogs very difficult, especially since you need all the common frogs but only some of the rare frogs
I am really liking the scenarios, they don't seem so intimidating watching you and Deli do them. Have you done the plant sim one yet? If you do, you can get all the perfect plants over at either the Spice Festival or the Romance Festival. I found that out the other day. Also, there was a water pump frog den behind Johnny Zest's house--just in case you want to do this again. I've been watching the English Simmer do this challenge and she got a lot of frogs from Sulani in the waterfalls.
Good tip but unfortunately the harvestables from festivals aren’t perfect. The plants are, but you can only harvest normal quality harvestables from them. 😢

13:18 its actually "Catch or breed" 8 common, 6 uncommon and 4 rare unique frogs, not just breed. In this scenario you need to do breeding 9 times, that's it.
the discover university and snowy escape showers allow sims to completely walk over them. You could place it anywhere and the sims can just walk over it.
I did the Frog Fanatic scenario and found it quite fun for a start but then having to find the last two frogs was a pain in the butt, I managed to complete it in 4 sim days though. I had the smallest of tiny homes and a pond in the back yard as I found so much faster as it doesn't have a cool down like the frog logs. Breeding was also a pain with the cool down. I found at times after eating the Frog Hot Pot that it was slightly easier to catch frogs in a pond, so my sim only ate that and the rest of the time was in the pond catching frogs when she wasn't taking care of her needs.
Pro tip: If you que up multiple 'Looks for frogs' interactions you can potentially get more than one frog from each log . Also, as someone who's bred a lot of frogs, the frogs do have 'genetics' and you can increase your potential for a specific result by breeding frogs with specific traits.
I grew up with the impression that, so long as you don't slice, peel, or mash the potato prior to cooking, then it counts as a baked potato. Oven-baked, grilled, even microwaved potatoes can all qualify as 'baked." Just don't forget to poke holes through the potato skin before microwaving it.

If collecting is the focus for future challenges, make sure to give your sim the Geek trait! It increases chances of rare collectables in addition to the collector aspiration
You can build a pond on your lot and stock it with fish youve discovered. Fishing on your lot then with the tiny home is much faster. You can also catch frogs in your pond at home.
As soon as Deli gets the super villain scenario completed I think she did but I would love to see Semaj as a Super Villain that would be cool! you can make him a super villain lair with Obsidian Chickens and alligators protecting his precious stuff he has stolen lol.
This was probably the hardest scenario I’ve done so far!! I had 7/8 common unique frogs to find or breed and I just couldn’t get that last frog!!! Took me 28 sim days to complete

Took me 4 in game days to finish the thing. I thecnically could have done it sooner, but I was going for completing the collection, before getting my cooking skills to level 7 for that frog dish, but apprently finishing the collection, also completes the senario 😅 I found most of them, had to breed for 4 of them. But 4 day is not bad. I did start of the the curator aspiration, to help find stuff. Without that, it has taken me a lot longer to complete the aspirstion before.
Extraterrestrial Researcher and Engaged in Conflict for the next set of scenarios. A suggestion you can do what you want with it: Put all the skills that YA and up can do on a wheel and use that wheel to pick 7 skills that you have to max up. The 7 random skills would be the only way you can make money. You could pick how much money Semaj had to make or use the 1 Million simoleon scenario for this.
So I just played this scenario and decided I wanted to complete the Frog collection before making the Boiling Frog Hot Pot and turns out, if you finish the collection before ticking everything off you still complete the scenario but as an "overachiever" 😂

It's amazing how large your knowledge of the sims is, only to know hardly anything about one of the easiest collections in the game. It's actually kinda impressive that you've been able to avoid learning about it for so long

Ok, so I did the scenario. And it went pretty much like yours, takes time to breed if you don't pay attention. Only thing, though I got the cooking skill up, I didn't actually make the dish because wanted to complete the collection first so it wouldn't finish before completed the collection. Weeeeellll... it competed it anyway even though I never made the dish. Very upsetting when the scenario doesn't work right.
I have a bunch of rooms saved on the gallery where I completed collections way back when the game first came out stuck them in a room, and saved them, and one of them is the whole frog collection. I wonder if I just download that and pick up all the frogs if it will count or not?

I did a frog scenario reno of that lot, called Froggy Hovel, on the gallery! It has a pump, frog log, and a pond you can fish or look for frogs in.

I am playing this one and my sim's traits include Freegan. It is so fun. This is the happiest Samaj has ever been.
For some reason I feel like Column’s child would have been great for this scenario (frogs, witches…).
I got stuck for DAYS on one last frog so I ended up building a pond in my back yard and soaking the “look for frogs” 😂

The idea of a shower with painted walls and wooden panels amuses me way too much than it's worth.
I also found that curator trait made finding the common frogs very difficult, especially since you need all the common frogs but only some of the rare frogs
This way by far the most frustrating scenario so far and took me the longest to complete. BUT...that's what I want in scenarios so I loved it!

When you were looking for frog ponds I was wondering if Sulani waterfall would be the same.
i completed the challenge in sulani strictly using the waterfall :) aside from the pond/oasis spring specific ones ofc

For me when I completed the collection it auto-finished the whole scenario. The only thing I hadn't done was cook the frog dish.

A suggestion you can do what you want with it:
Put all the skills that YA and up can do on a wheel and use that wheel to pick 7 skills that you have to max up. The 7 random skills would be the only way you can make money. You could pick how much money Semaj had to make or use the 1 Million simoleon scenario for this.
I like how the plaque you get says frogs have feelings too, yet the challenge makes you cook one of them into a hot pot 🥲
So I just played this scenario and decided I wanted to complete the Frog collection before making the Boiling Frog Hot Pot and turns out, if you finish the collection before ticking everything off you still complete the scenario but as an "overachiever" 😂

It's amazing how large your knowledge of the sims is, only to know hardly anything about one of the easiest collections in the game. It's actually kinda impressive that you've been able to avoid learning about it for so long
I would've put a pond on my tiny home lot right away, then no need to go anywhere and you get the tiny home boost!
We need another Rags to riches or some kind of mini series...that would be awesome..maybe just using base game..that could be interesting..since base game is just base game lol or maybe base game and one pack..I don't know I'm just throwing out ideas haha!

Ok, so I did the scenario. And it went pretty much like yours, takes time to breed if you don't pay attention. Only thing, though I got the cooking skill up, I didn't actually make the dish because wanted to complete the collection first so it wouldn't finish before completed the collection. Weeeeellll... it competed it anyway even though I never made the dish. Very upsetting when the scenario doesn't work right.
You actually can do baked potatoes on a barbecue, you wrap them in foil and they bake in there
In this save you should complete all the collections and try and create a wall of plaques!!
I have a bunch of rooms saved on the gallery where I completed collections way back when the game first came out stuck them in a room, and saved them, and one of them is the whole frog collection. I wonder if I just download that and pick up all the frogs if it will count or not?
