Once I learned Oompa actually built, owns and operates his own candy manufacturing plant I bought some of his candy. That's SO fucking rare for influencers, who almost always just attach their name to a product that someone else makes (prime, etc.) It's reasonably priced for being a small batch-type operation. And also every flavor I tried was super good. I'd easily put that candy at the level of, if not higher, than other sour candy's you'd find at a gas station or grocery store.
Genuinely surprised you reviewed Masaru's products. He's really helped the economy of his local community with his fish products and fishing videos. He's gone through a lot of rough patches over the years so seeing his products getting more attention (and hopefully more sales) because of you makes me happy! Thanks for this!

The reason those TH-camr coffees match their tasting notes so well is that they’re picked from a library of flavor profiles built by a professional private label roaster. The TH-camr connects with the roaster and works with them to build a blend, roast profile and packaging that suits their channel’s aesthetic, and the roaster handles everything involved in creating bags of branded, roasted coffee. James Hoffman has a good video on how the industry works
And it's not that terrible for consumers either-given that the roaster is good-because at the end of the day the TH-camr gets what they want for a OK price and a relatively good quality. Given that coffee isn't an easy produce to deal with, it would require a lot of your attention, which is not a commodity as a TH-camr if you want to continue in that lane. There are so many factors involved in making coffee. I have a ton of respect of my local roaster because he puts hard work in making a good business, and care about the product down to the source.

The thing with sour boys is caleb is involved in the process of making the candy, and they did created the recipe from scratch, they drop it in batches and every friday a new batch with new flavors comes. And that's something i'll always hold in higher regards then just white labeling stuff. The only reason i haven't tried it yet is cuz shipping costs isn't worth it.

as a Masaru fan and a fan of japan overall, here is a bit of background info on the tuna jerky: Japanese people love to eat snacks while drinking beer, ranging from things like chips to fried chicken or seafood etc. Often however, these snacks are quite unhealthy / have high fat contents. So Masaru wanted to make a snack that is healthy, and that you can enjoy while drinking. I think in one of his videos he said that the chewy part is also nice cause you're not inhaling the food as quickly as you would with chips for instance. Personally, I don't think I would enjoy it, and I'm not sure it would be a big hit with western audiences, so I thought it might be worth explaining the idea behind it a little :)
gotta give SourBoyz credit for manufacturing their product themselves inhouse too. Thats a huge project on its own. Most of these other products are entirely third party and they just attached their name to it, or at best were maybe consulted during production, but dont do any of it themselves.
Oompa's passion is the reason I want to order some SourBoyz, as someone who also loves candy. Just haven't been able to get an order yet. He's doing it right though and deserves massive respect for it (especially since he went through so much just getting it up and running).

It's much cheaper to do it at home (if you have the money to afford the upfront costs for whatever method you decide to use), but still regardless pricey (that price doesn't come from nowhere, meat ain't cheap). There's a butcher shop near me that makes their own jerky and sells it for way cheaper than garbo like Jack Links. Big huge chunks of meat. Awesome seasonings. All for like $12/lb. None of that paper thin rubber they try to pass off as jerky.

Vanilla is extremely labor-intensive to produce because the orchids have to be hand pollinated. Fair trade coffee, cocoa, and vanilla are all supremely expensive compared to their less ethical counterparts.

Woah woah woah, Sourboys uses all natural ingredients, no artificial dyes or sweeteners, and ethically sourced palm oil. Also, Oompa himself makes it, one of the first times I ordered sourboys his name was on my shipping label since he packaged and sent it.
I'm not wasting money on "natural" ingredients that cost more, taste the same and have no nutritional value. And bragging about "no artificial sweeteners" for candies is "asbestos-free cereal"-tier. Candies aren't diet soft drinks. They don't usually use artificial sweeteners.
Feastables really does belong in scam tier now. I liked the old recipe, it was like a step in between milk and dark chocolate, wasn't as horrible for you, and wasn't made with slave labor (funny how he removed that from the website). The biggest part is the total change is still misleading people into thinking it's not as bad as it really is. Prime deserves scam for the same reason
I always refer people to Tony's Chocolonely. They pay an actual fair, livable proce for their chocolate, and do spot inspections to guarantee their plantations are not worked by children. Plus their chocolate fucking rules.

I will say Masaru’s soy sauce isn’t maybe the best general soy sauce, it isn’t something you would put on your rice for every meal but overall it goes very well to dip things in, like a ponzu, especially when it comes to sushi of any sort, it is by far the best thing to dip in. I would recommend but if you’re not a big fan of fish or Japanese cuisine then definitely not for you. And it’s great to support Masaru, he’s a great guy doing a great thing for his local economy.

Ok I have to disagree with the Feastables rating, I tried it 3 different times and it always tasted like the bottom shelf cheap chocolates, which is wild since where I am, it costs around twice as much as Cadbury.
Yeah, I tried feastables and hershey when I went to the US last year and hersheys was miles better. Feastables actually tasted like dogsht, like actual sht that came out of a dog. Cadbury on top tho, one of the best chocolates ever.

That one has the inherent sweetness and saltiness of good seafood. Other type is pre cooked, pressed, dried and is flavored with extra seasoning like fish sauce, sugar, pepper and salt. Both types are very yummy.

There's a butcher shop near me that makes their own jerky and sells it for way cheaper than garbo like Jack Links. Big huge chunks of meat. Awesome seasonings. All for like $12/lb. None of that paper thin rubber they try to pass off as jerky.

Feastables really does belong in scam tier now. I liked the old recipe, it was like a step in between milk and dark chocolate, wasn't as horrible for you, and wasn't made with slave labor (funny how he removed that from the website). The biggest part is the total change is still misleading people into thinking it's not as bad as it really is. Prime deserves scam for the same reason
I always refer people to Tony's Chocolonely. They pay an actual fair, livable proce for their chocolate, and do spot inspections to guarantee their plantations are not worked by children. Plus their chocolate fucking rules.

I will say Masaru’s soy sauce isn’t maybe the best general soy sauce, it isn’t something you would put on your rice for every meal but overall it goes very well to dip things in, like a ponzu, especially when it comes to sushi of any sort, it is by far the best thing to dip in. I would recommend but if you’re not a big fan of fish or Japanese cuisine then definitely not for you.
And it’s great to support Masaru, he’s a great guy doing a great thing for his local economy.

Masaru clearly has some brain trauma from his seizure and spine break, and many Japanese fans have been really nasty with what they’ve said even despite all of that.
And it is definitely a western opinion but depending on what the one fan said, even if they donated a large sum of money, if they were saying bad stuff and being nasty towards Masaru, he still has a right to block them even in spite of everything.

Ok I have to disagree with the Feastables rating, I tried it 3 different times and it always tasted like the bottom shelf cheap chocolates, which is wild since where I am, it costs around twice as much as Cadbury.

That one has the inherent sweetness and saltiness of good seafood. Other type is pre cooked, pressed, dried and is flavored with extra seasoning like fish sauce, sugar, pepper and salt. Both types are very yummy.
