A New Look And Type For Pokémon's Lake Trio

The lake trio from Pokémon diamond pearl and platinum have been redone with brand new redux forms. In the post game of emerald elite redux you unlock redux uxie azelf and mesprit with new dark type forms. They each have new abilities and moves but are they now viable? Are they worth the 200BP price? Watch and decide for yourself.

I can gather a good amount of lore from their designs.
Regular Azelf gifted humans willpower. The sprite for Redux Azelf has him yawning so this guy probably "gifted" humans with the opposite like sloth or laziness.
Uxie gave humans knowledge and intelligence. It's shrugging and clueless looking counterpart probably gifted ignorance or stupidity.

​@@djdragondrawer9339i used to help design/balance mons in this game and this trio was one i was heavily involved in making(their signature innate "malicious" was entirely my idea)
but anyways, the idea behind these three is they actually represent the inverse of what the base form was said to gift to humanity. so uxie is ignorance (knowledge, hence the confused look), azelf is sloth, and mesprit is apathy. it was kinda tricky really getting an exact inverse since it's hardly 1:1 but i think they came out really well, by far my favorite redux mons

How they work on practice:
Being blunt right off of the bat: They all are terrible, arguably worse than the originals.
Uxie does have a good ability kit: either magic guard to be immune to passive damage or unaware to beat set up sweepers, both of which help its defensive playstyle. But not only is its typing terrible for a defensive Mon, but it also has no reliable recovery, killing its potential as a defensive Mon.
Azelf equally has this great set of abilities for it’s offensive role, tho mainly magic guard, but comatose can also work for being a status blocker. But it also has a flaw which kills its potential: its coverage from base azelf’s kit does NOT help it at all. It lacks basically anything to hit dark resists hard, so you wall its dark stab, you can very easily blank it.
Mespirit, by the extend of the other two, is just doomed by the start then. Essentially is trying to meld the roles of both who already couldn’t do so even with a focus, and despite tinted lens making it not have a coverage issue, it’s WAY too slow to be a threat, and night daze doesn’t help it enough to change that

Redux lake trio is a very cool concept for sure. Being dark type and representing the absence of their respective aspects (Emotion/Knowledge/Willpower) works well and is reflected on their abilities... mostly. In practice they aren't very good however for the stage of the game you get access to each (post 8th badge). Maybe if they had more powerful signature abilities instead (e.g M.Quagsire's Clueless on Uxie-R to null all field effects or were accessible around 6th badge similar to their original games they would be worth using on a team.

I designed a Delta form of this trio with a custom ability called Finis Tempor, which was before the ruin abilities came out.
Essentially, Finis Tempor did exactly what you suggested, had the effect permanently on the field, but affected Attack and Speed as opposed to Attack and Defense. While my types of the lake trio are different (All three were Ghost, and then had a different secondary type to differentiate them), this small change DID make them a pretty prominent threat in that meta.

In terms of personailty, from what I can gather in the comments, I'd imagine Redux Uxie would be kinda low on inteligence, while Redux Mesprit would either be emotionless or depressed, and Redux Azelf would be rather lazy. In short, the original Lake Trio if they were emo teens.

From my experience playing Redux Azelf, Malicious doesn’t seem to work how you think. Every time I used it, it’d always lower Defense and lower the opponent’s highest attacking stat. This made Redux Azelf a beast of a mon on my E4 team on locked mode, using Sucker Punch, Knock Off, Explosion and U-turn paired with life orb.

The moment i saw redux azelf, i knew i wanted to use it. I think its design is so cute and regular Azelf is already my favorite. I wanted to run it special with Nasty Plot, but it had a really nice role on my team. I decided to run it physical, with
Explosion
Knock Off
Night Daze
U-Turn
Main Ability: Comatose, Item: Dark Gem. Dark Aura + Malicious meant that Dark Gem Knock Off would be a KO on nearly anything that's not resisted or sashed. Night Daze helped me out big time in the Phoebe fight which is in my personal top 3 of hardest fights in the game. Explosion was also nice for generating momentum so other team members would have an easier time switching in. Its not absolutely taking over fights but I found it to be an amazing role player for my team.
