How the mons do in practice: Quagsire: it sounds good on paper, but in practice, it has so much competition from suicune to even itself in some cases, it isn’t really worth the slot. In fact it even is worse than quag due to not having a vital aspect: water absorb Lanturn: Just isn’t strong enough. Even if you come in on the moves you blank, it can easily be blobbed and it’s power isn’t much compared to the other megas Kingdra:….. this horse is a fucking monster. You essentially have a 145 spatk 115 speed monster with effectively both a scarf and a specs boost in rain due to sea guardian always granting it +1 spatk. And the demon is throwing out mega launcher hydro pumps, dragon pulses, and ice beams. It’s so good that it essentially is the base line to all offensive water megas, especially rain focused ones…. And the most scary part is that 2.0 is BUFFING it. Relicanth, likely the worst of the offensive waters besides lanturn, even with 160 attack and reckless head smash and wave crash, it isn’t strong enough to get past bulkier cores. Rock polish terrifies offense; but there’s a reason why some people want to give it ddance. Kingler: Too slow to actually be effective as a rain mega, so kingdra out does it by a mile. Instead it prefers to be on webs, where it gets much more mileage off of its power and good enough speed tier for the style. Not as common on those teams as beedrill or haxorus but it works. Feraligatr X: easily number 2 only to kingdra. Ddance is terrifying on a Mon with not only great power that even goes through stat changes (deathroll ignores stat changes) it also heals itself in rain due to dry skin, so it has a niche in rain as an alternative. It even can abuse bite since primal maw actually makes it strong to be a contender, and the double iron bash esque flinch rate can let you get through checks
Please make a video talking about Ninjask, it's IMO one of the best bug types in the whole game. Speed force synergizes incredibly with Speed boost, if that's not enough, swords dance ensures you hit harder. (Just give it focus sash) Still want more power? Dig & Fly (1 turn of immunity = more boost). On top of that, leech life gets massively boosted you can OHKO mostly anything and recover near full HP, and since you outspeed nearly everything, you got nothing to worry about.... Just be mindful about priority and entry hazzards, those can ruin your sweeping bug if you're not prepared. I'm doing a mono-bug run and so far Ninjask has solo'ed 4/8 gyms.

Me: hears the "water is objectively the correct starter choice most of the time" statement and then his proof chart also me: *laughs uncontrollably for a minute straight* in all seriousness, that is HILARIOUSLY wrong for most of the time. in fact, most of the time it turns out to usually be fire, not water. he was at least right about gen 3 and 7. though, considering all the other games.. in gen 1 it is hands down bulbasaur. easily. not even an argument. it is LAUGHABLE how much the bulbasaur line could solo the most important battles early game(the first three-four gyms, also this is when your starter choice matters most.) offensively advantageous against both first 2 gyms, and defensively useful against the third and fourth(and offensively good against tangela too,i guess.) even in the late game it isn't bad, since you have a good matchup against giovanni on both fronts and against the elite four you are good against bruno's onixes and Lorelei's entire team offensively(even if you are disadvantaged defensively,it still can work if your desperate enough to try it.) which compared to the other two is an easy sweep, since charmander's only good matchup in the first four is the fourth gym, then bad against the first two and either neutral or bad against the third depending on if you have a charizard yet or not. and then there's squirtle, which has advantage against the first offensively, second defensively, but drops off a cliff against the third and fourth. this is no contest. in gen 2..it's honestly arguable. really kinda depends on if he meant the remakes or originals. if remakes....yea,i can let him off as it's pretty evenly arguable between cyndaquill and tododile. but the original is leaned more to cyndaquill due to game mechanics nerfing tododiles potential more thanks to no physical special split,as well as being the only of the three to have an advantage against any of the gyms, not to meantion the only to have an EARLY gym advantage, the most important part of that. in gen 4 it's pretty clearly chimchar... if it's the original games and not platinum it's even worse, since without it you only have ONE fire type option in the frankly mid rapidash. even in platinum it's still overall better, due to having an advantage against both first two gyms(thanks to getting fighting type at monferno),which the other two starters cannot say themselves. also it absolutely EATS up the evil team in general. in gen 5...i mean, tepig is kinda clear. in the original games,it's obviously as good as the others against the first gym(which is kinda bad, though you do somehow overlevel to have a pignite you at least have stab against the lilipup,i guess.) and then goes on to be advantageous against both of the next two, which the other two do not have at all. in the remakes,it's definitely worse, since you have to overlevel to have an advantage against the first gym,but even then you still are the only to have an advantage in the first three since the bug gym stays. in gen 6,it's actually fennekin, this being helped especially by you getting to choose a kanto starter later, which you can use to patch up weaknesses. it's good against the first gym(surskit can be a bit of trouble but you should probably still be able to deal with it even with just fennekin),and while bad against the second, you can pick bulbasaur or squirtle as your kanto starter to counter this. then is neutral to the third(unless you somehow are overlevelled enough to have a delphox, which like...props to you,i guess?) and positive against the fourth, also if you picked bulbasaur you have double starter advantage against that gym. comparatively, chespin is bad against the first, would be good against the second but in reality is neutral due to the specific rock types used's secondary typings, neutral to the third in concept but bad because of hawlucha, and then defensively good against the fourth in concept but in practice is only this against Gogoat. and then for froakie, neutral against the first gym,ACTUALLY good in practice against the second(though tyrunt is still a neutral matchup),neutral against the third, and bad against the fourth. and as an added benefit, fennekin is also good against 2/3rds of the 5th gym's mons thanks to magneton's steel typing and heliolisk's dry skin. his gen 9 take is relatively accurate and then the gen 8 take..is honestly surprisingly potentially valid depending on version, though could still be wrong? not only does it depend on version, but also all 3 starters are equally viable against the first three gyms, since they're all the starter's types. though when it comes to the first three,it definitely is between scorbunny and grookey to have the best matchups. and then in the fourth, depending on version, is either an equally neutral matchup for both(sword) or more advantageous for scorbunny(sheild),as while both have a single mon on the team they're weak to,as well as one they resist, scorbunny's weakness is the weaker of the two(the far weaker yamask compared to gengar) though, then the 5th gym is a firm scorbunny W due to being advantageous defensively against the whole team and offensively against one member, compared to grookey being weak to two and neutral against the other two. so while it's arguable in sword,it's overall more definitatively scorbunny, especially in shield. overall,it's actually the fire starters that have the majority of Ws,though followed by water in second, then grass in dead last(with only 1 firm W and 1 arguable based on version) apologies about the absolute wall of a comment to anyone reading this,it just happened this way(mainly because this was the best way to explain it.)

his gen 9 take is relatively accurate
and then the gen 8 take..is honestly surprisingly potentially valid depending on version, though could still be wrong?
not only does it depend on version, but also all 3 starters are equally viable against the first three gyms, since they're all the starter's types.
though when it comes to the first three,it definitely is between scorbunny and grookey to have the best matchups.
and then in the fourth, depending on version,
is either an equally neutral matchup for both(sword)
or more advantageous for scorbunny(sheild),as while both have a single mon on the team they're weak to,as well as one they resist, scorbunny's weakness is the weaker of the two(the far weaker yamask compared to gengar)
though, then the 5th gym is a firm scorbunny W due to being advantageous defensively against the whole team and offensively against one member, compared to grookey being weak to two and neutral against the other two.
so while it's arguable in sword,it's overall more definitatively scorbunny, especially in shield.
overall,it's actually the fire starters that have the majority of Ws,though followed by water in second, then grass in dead last(with only 1 firm W and 1 arguable based on version)
