The story for the first and this sequel is awesome.
5:34 You are wrong. It is a sequel. It is important to know and understand the previous game story. Simply as that.
Man Kingdom Battle was a mind/life saver for my wife and I as she went through cancer treatment right as covid lockdown started. It was one of the few games we could play together because her brain was all fogged up from chemo, it was slow and smooth enough that it didn't make her sick. We still play it every once in a while to this day. Once we have some cushion we are definitely going to buy Sparks of Hope

This series is the definition of the fact that you shouldn't judge a book by it's cover. Easily one of the best games on the switch.
If this is the best Switch has to offer, I'm glad that I don't own one. RPGs and Rabbids are pretty assy. Even Mario isn't that entertaining and Zelda is just overrated.
This game should be used as an example that nothing bad ever happens to abusers with money.
Make hundreds of victims and break several laws? Make a zany rpg with bunny rabbits. Problem solved.

@@k3meister Because Jirard doesn't only play rpgs and Switch you know? I try to watch every video from him because I like the guy and the show and every once in a while I find a game I might like. I just don't get how the fell so hard from SNES to this. It had great controllers and exclusives. I can't even enjoy Metroid Dread thanks to that dreadful (hah) controller and controls as a whole. 2D with a joystick was a terrible idea.

For anyone who was curious, I’m pretty sure the difference between dashing enemies and getting dashed in the over world is that when you dash them, the encounter is a “Eliminate Enemies” mission, but when they dash you it becomes a “Survive” mission. The exception to this is the stationary enemies who start side quests, whose encounter type remains consistent.

I love that when people Saw This franchise for the first time they where like “WHAT THE FUCK! They took our Amazing franchise and made a crossover with Those Fucking Animals” And 5 years later people are like “YES!, After 5 years, We are finaly getting the Sequal to the crossover WE DERSERVE!”

This game is amazing! It improves on many of the mechanics from the original, and adds just the right amount of new elements.

...Actually, in my experience so far, the game actually suffered a LOT. It's still decent, and it could've been worse, but I worry for how the third entry/Rayman DLC will fare at this rate.
TL;DR: If this were a _prequel_ to Kingdom Battle, I'd have no complaints. They shaved off a ton of what made the original so good, unfortunately.
- None of KB's enemies return in the game, even though they're clearly using the same Elemental Variants system again. (Wildclaw -> Ice Wildclaw, Stooge -> Fire Stooge, and so on. The first Boss was an oversized Wildclaw which becomes a common enemy 3 seconds after the fight.)
- Weapons are devolving and backpedaling on why they were great in KB. Peach had a shotgun? No, no, no! It's a Boom Brella now. Luigi's sniper rifle? It's a Bow now - disregard his proficiency with vacuum cleaners and trigger-based equipment.
- Humour has degraded as they've tried to shift the focus to an actual story/"epic" tone...But why would I play a Rabbids game for a serious story?
- No Secondary Weapons is a HUGE missed opportunity. Just imagine the play styles: Rabbid Peach with Triple Troll and Sentry turns her into the Ultimate Cover Bully, Rabbid Luigi with Bworb and Discruptor for maximum carnage, the list of potential goes on!
- No Secondary Techniques, either. Where'd Rabbid Mario put his Just (Magnet) Dance? Was losing a TEAM-WIDE MOBILITY BUFF really worth getting Luigi a better pair of socks?
Speaking of things degrading/being removed for the sake of something else, here's what we lost:
- Ziggies (are they competent? No, but they make funny noises all the time - including the part where you shoot them - and that's entertaining!)
- Smashers (funny to kill with Hero Sights, terrifying if they get in range, and then funny again when you watch someone play without getting the memo!)
- Supporters (they used a Grenaduck on their own teammate just to prove they can heal back the collateral damage. Responsible AND overconfident!)
- Valkyries (...How did they get away with this one? It's incredible just for being allowed to exist in a _Mario_ game)
- Peekaboos (a sniper enemy which needs to be brought down in a single turn and prompts the use of smart aggression tactics. I like it!)
- Buckler (an actual reason to try and use Dashes and Jumps. Neat!)
@@ED-gw9rg The reason why they made the rabbids a bit more serious this time is because they wanted to experiment with expanding the Rabbids brand to more than just 'army of loud identical slapstick creatures' that has been popularized by the Minions

Fun fact for everyone they put so many small things in this game its amazing. Like rabbid mario does a reference to a piano song as one of his idle animations. (Can't think of the name so feel free to let me know) it really shows how much effort really went into this game. I am 100% completing this.
Also Jirard if you read this I hope everything gets better man, I'll be honest I don't know the context (unless it was the whole twitch con) but I just want you to know you are awesome, and nobody can change that.

I've just finished playing through the original game with one of the kids (well, partway through DLC but main game done) and while a lot of the background is just, well, background ie. Not interactive, some of the detail put in to random things is crazy and we were always pointing out little funny details in almost every area.
Jirard also worked at g4 which just shut down. It was a childhood dream of his to be on it, and he got it! And then... It fizzled out a year later. I feel for the guy.
Playing this game now and I absolutely love it. This franchise is so much better than expected! Loved the first one and the dlc and this one is even better!

@@wispyluma76 really? There are some elements from the first that I do miss, but I think this one does a good job of improving on the first. I wish it was a little more difficult but I really liked it. I don’t blame you though I love the first one a lot!
@@brettrogames I don't think tactics games should have free movement like this. And also, the physics in the game suck. I feel like every time I try to aim a shot, it's blocked by something somewhere. This also has to do the the free movement. I constantly find myself re-adjusting my position to even get my shots to work. The enemies in this game are just so bland and have no personality either. In Kingdom battle, each enemy has its very own introduction scene that would hint at what kind of baddie it was, and sometimes it would make me laugh, like the supporters. Here the games just assumes you're gonna use the tacticam to see its abilities.
This game is alright definitely more organized and fun in the first game tho
Mario having two hand guns in this game just makes me feel like they were referencing Star-Lord in the MCU since the one who plays him, Chris Pratt, is voicing Mario in the Mario Bros. Movie.

I absolutely loved the first game, and I'm eager to start my time with the sequel. Glad to hear it's an even better experience, and that it helped Jirard with the rough time he's having.

Just finally got into the tacrpg genre with FE3H, Mario+Rabbids games are definitely next!
Usually I'm not a fan of the Turn Based Strategy games, but I have a soft spot for Mario+Rabbids
Seeing these videos honestly keeps tempting me into buying these games, even though I know I'm frankly not all that good at them. However, with just how fun and relaxing you always make them sound, it always leaves me wondering if I might have a ball playing it, especially if you can have good ol Bowser in your team.

@@matthewgramz3648 You can set it to hard mode if you want. The reason it’s more reasonable is because of the difficulty settings. Whereas OG just had extra hearts and standard.
@@thevioletbee5879 I actually am having a tougher time with Sparks of Hope. I set everything on the hardest difficulty and haven't upgraded any sparks or used the skill tree.

Hey Jirard, you may not see this, or you may, Idk, but I want to say that your videos are great and that despite what hardships you are going through, you are THE COMPLETIONIST. A man who is great at completing games, not some host that takes a backseat for a studio that absolutely dropped the ball. There are some thing I really didnt like about your time with G4, and that still bugs me, but that can wait. You are one of the greatest gaming TH-camrs out there. This was a really fun game! Rabbid Mario with the Glitter Spark after someone else has used the Starburst Spark to power him up is an AMAZING combo! Additionally, get Rabbid Mario to dash some enemies and have a powered up Luigi shoot with the Ghost Bullet from Steely Stare to do even more damage.
Striking first gives you an advantage in the battle, you'll spawn in a more advantageous spot than if they attack you.

After playing the first game...I realized, that I was missing out on something amazing 👏. Was super happy when they announced a sequel not too long after I beat the first one. Love this series
Finally played far enough in the game myself to watch this video without danger of major spoilers. My dream lineup’s Peach, Rabbid Peach and Edge, because it gives you a bunch of dashes, healing and protection, in addition to weapon damage. I agree about the map: the ladders, bridges and switches made it more complex than I cared for to reach certain objectives.

In my opinion, there are 3 types of sequels, 1: its so bad that everyone pretends it does not exist and only plays yhe first one. 2: its so good that the is literally no reason to play the first one because the second one just expands on the first one, and 3: its different enough compared to the first one to where you see people split on likeing one over the other, basically meaning that both are good but different. I think this sequel is that 3rd one.
i completed the game a few days ago
and i was stuck at 99% for so long, and not a single guide showed me where the last memory was
eventually i found it on my own, by checking the map and going "where haven't i been yet?"
and now i am at 100%
fun fact, i had no idea i had to do the hidden rooms twice before this video XD

You were absolutely my favorite part of it and it's so sad to hear how badly things went. I hope this won't crush the passion you've had for all these years because it's one of the aspects of you that I love to see.
I'm even more excited to play this now. I'm currently addicted to Rune Factory but I've got this game sitting on standby. I'm about to go on vacation next week so I'll give it a go.
The fact that there are no more party restrictions is huge. I did end up playing a bit with everybody in the first game and having fun but it was a bit of a bummer that you HAD to bring Mario and a Rabbid with you. I don't think any of the characters in the first game were bad but that restriction was so harsh that it really limited your ability to find that perfect party comp.

17:10 I was trying to figure out the difference between you dashing into enemies, or enemies dashing into you. There is no difference; however, we've seen this mechanic before. In Super Mario RPG. Where you touch enemies you go into battle, or them running into you. I believe the focus was just getting you into battle, and making it not easy to go pass the wandering enemies.

Sparks seem like a really cool narrative and gameplay addition!
For my strategy, I used Mario and Rabbid Mario as the Frontline powerhouses, and Luigi with 3-charge, wall-piercing steely stare on cleanup. I beat most battles in one turn.
I appreciated your point about this game being some peoples introduction to tactical RPGs! I've never played one, and it looks a little complicated to me.. but this game makes it look like so much fun I may give it a try!
You should! I had never played a tactical RPG before the first Mario + Rabbids game and I loved it! The first game is almost always on sale on the eshop for under $15 so trying that one out first would be my advice. If you really like it then get the new one! I can't wait to buy it

The Rabbids had quite a redemption arc with these Tactic games. They went from obnoxious idiotic Clones who I honestly found more annoying than the Minions, to surprisingly entertaining characters who are fun to play as alongside Mario characters.
Man, kudos to you and your team for knocking out playing and making videos on new games like this.
Man i was hyped by the announcement even tho it leaked. I will say this legitimately i love this game and it's on my top 10 switch games of all time. Soundtrack slaps, gameplay fast and amazing. Story is fun too. Everything about this is amazing. I love this more than kingdom battle but love both. This game is just so freaking good despite not supposedly selling well. I bought the sequel on launch and i am so happy i did. Man this game is just so good and love all the deserved praise.

This game is so interesting and fun, I actually managed to beat my first playthrough on "demanding" difficulty without using a single item ever, just me, my team and sparks and my level of smartypants in my brain (I did had to reset a couple of times tho lol)

It's interesting that you thought separating the overworld from the battle maps made the world feel more "alive." I actually thought the opposite. One of the most charming things about Kingdom Battle was the way it seamlessly transitioned from exploration to battle and back.

Mario and rabbids is the most bizarre video game mashup that works since Disney and final fantasy
Dashing enemies means that you have the choice to run from the battle. If an enemy dash attacks you, you cannot flee the battle

Not entirely sure if it's what he's talking about here, but I'm pretty sure a big component of it is the fact that G4 just shut down again after less than a year and he only found out via a public tweet like everyone else. That was a pretty steady source of income for him.
Rabbids in these games, and even their game of origin, show how you do it *right;* don't put them on their own, use them to augment something else. So long as there is something to temper their chaos, the rabbids are *great.*
I hope they update it to add a mini map or some way to make it easier to see the tiny things you missed
Highly recommend picking this game up. Such a fantastic game. I really love when Switch just slams out an incredible game that looks beautiful. Helps to shut up the port beggars and the hardware snobs
