I will answer both: This anime is "trail of heroes cold steel:northen war" This anime is an adaptation from the game "trail of heroes: cold steel" To be precise this anime adapting the story of "northen war" that take place in the between of the game cold steel 2 and cold steel 3. The story of northen war is an important plot point that become a big reason for the cold steel 3 protagonist. This anime came out 2 weeks ago and had 2 episode released This anime will be a big hit or miss since for people that never play the game this anime seems like a normal "mecha" anime but for people that had play the game this anime will finally uncover everything that happen in northen war (well we did know what happen but it's nice to finally see it.) But that doesn't mean people that never play the game will not be enjoy it. It's just they will be missing many important key point

For example the anime OP amd ED, for people that never play the game they are nothing special but for people that had play the game, they are full of precious reference and memories of the game. If you own PC or PS4 you can play the whole cold steel saga. I have to warn you that the game story is super awesome and might become your favorite game 😁 Other disclaimer is that cold steel is the third saga from the trails series. There are: Trails of the sky Trails from zero and azure Trails of cold steel Kuro no kiseki (trails of black?) If you want to play cold steel, You don't have to worry about kuro no kiseki since it take place after cold steel. So the whole trails series is one continous saga, so if you play starting from cold steel you might missed some key point. For example cold steel team are created thanks to the incident in trails in the sky and in some part of the game, they will talking about that incident but they won't explain what actually happen in the incident. Also cold steel 2 happen at the same time as trails of the azure, you can literally see what happen in trails of azure as outsider. Not only that but you will talk and cooperate with people that previously appeared in the previous game. Some relationship also won't be explained since they are from previous game. BUT you can play and start from any trails game. You won't missed out a lot since different chapter are focusing on different goals. I personally start from cold steel and missed out many reference until end of cold steel 2 but i'm still having a blast
