  • How To Meditate For Beginners! In this video, I'm going to tell you, where to meditate, how to meditate, how to stop thinking, how long to meditate for, even how long before you start seeing the benefits.
    Meditation has almost become mainstream by this point, but most people are not doing it right. Or rather, they are meditating in a way, that will not make the habit stick over a long period of time. My Meditation approach is more geared towards the average person, as opposed to the monk who lives in the mountains. For example, I understand that a lot of people want to start meditating in order to help them sleep, I cover this specific topic in the video.
    I hope all you beginner meditators out there, become long term meditators after watching this!

      I find it sad that people have to be hooked to do anything b/c ‘celebrities’ do it. I’m in no way blaming you, rather figuring that’d be a good way to get people’s attention- no pun intended-b/c so many worship these vapid, useless clowns w/ manufactured lives... funny, just other day saw article top 35, 35!-‘reality’ shows of all kinds are actually scripted, at least outlined.. what a surprise 🙄

    • @thefutureofyesterday8136

      I could careless what “celebrities” do or do not do. They are over-paid people who put their pants on the same way as I do. I am not one to glorify these people because they took acting lessons and was in the right place at the right time. They are nothing special and are not a hero to me by no stretch of the imagination. Gain merit to your videos by your own accomplishments and not because anyone else does it regardless of who it is.

    The whole point of meditation is awareness. It is not to "not think''. It's not the focusing on your breath that's so important, it's the re-focusing on your breath when you realise your mind has wandered that's the important bit. That's what strengthens your awareness. I think this is an important distinction to make, as telling people the point is 'not to think' can be very off putting for beginners, and also just wrong.

    I once was with my class at a Buddhist temple and at the end of our guide, we started to meditate. That level of meditation is insane because I have never experienced meditation that much, ever. I felt like I was about to fly, my hands started to levitate and my bottom started to feel as it was leaving the cushion we sat on. This made me smile and focus on all the cool stuff with flying so sadly I did not manage to fly but it was so cool!

      Following buddish scripture said, never pursue this feeling, to pursue feeling is dangerous. Because something will occupy the mind. meditation can let us understand our mind(why do we think .. how about our emotion...) it is like philosophy and psychological. Budda tell us meditation just one of all methods for understanding our mind. If your mind is triggered, you will find yourself very intelligent. But Budda also say, that is just true you not mysterious at all. For me ,Buddhist is more like a school. Not a religion. Budda even said I am not God. I just teach you how to find your true mind. ..end. ( I am not a native English person. Sorry my poor expression)

    When meditating , if you have more thoughts comming in then you should know this “ let it go”, let go of everything, fear, stress, your plan for the day or night or sleep or anything at all. Just let it go. And focus on what you see when your eyes are closed. Just focus on that, and you will do well. Some people have a hard time not-thinking because they have a lot going on in their life. Keep doing it for longer until your mind lets go. Hope this helps

    • @Juanah92
      @Juanah92 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I've been hearing a lot of people saying to "let go", but I don't quite grasp its meaning or intent. Do you mean like, when stressful or anxious thought comes in, I should focus for example on my breath instead of letting the thought stay in my mind?

    • @drugrelated3167

      @@Juanah92yea just think about how your feeling in this exact moment how your body feels what your seeing focus one you and only what’s happening to you don’t worry about anything that’s going to or might happen

    • @bimeshkoirala
      @bimeshkoirala ปีที่แล้ว +20

      @@Juanah92 what meditation means is; you need to feel connected to the mind and soul NOT your body in such a way that you get into that Zen state. focusing on the breath is one way of focusing on a point, but in the long run focusing on what is in the mind will get you better with it. whenever you feel your mind is not stopping to think about things when you meditate, you have to understand that like any other stuff this takes practice. The more you do it, the better you get. you might say what does practice really mean? well, practice means every time when you sit down to meditate, your mind will become hyperactive with lots of thoughts, don't fight it rather embrace it and keep thinking until it all goes away. in a simpler way, imagine a sink full of water and when it drains it creates a turbulence in the entire water and it takes a while to drain off all the water but eventually it does. your thoughts are the water and your mind is the sink when you sit down to meditate that is when you pull the drain plug for your thoughts; it really does take a while. when you close your eyes, try to look whatever you see when your eyes are closed. in my case my mind interprets a black dot becoming larger and larger until it's total blackness.
      like i said it requires practice, the more you do it the better you get at meditation and understanding your mind and how your mental state handles the turbulence of thoughts you get. i would advice to do it more often and keep practicing until you get comfortable with it and it will definitely help you improve your mental state and get better with practicing medication. Hope it helps.!!

    • @JoseEduardo1594-
      @JoseEduardo1594- ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@Juanah92a mantra that really helps me to let go while meditating is: when I have a thought that I want to let go I say In my mind…” I’m having the thought of ____, and that’s okay. I am safe and I can let it go now…” then continue breathing and focusing on the present senses.
      You don’t want to push away thoughts, they are just like clouds they come and go. Treat them as so, observe them, and know that you are not your thoughts, tell yourself it’s okay, and let it pass on by and ground further into your senses.

    I think instead of setting the limit of meditation to 5-10 minutes you should just meditate for as long as you feel like it. I've noticed setting a time can take away from the experience because it can end up just popping into your head while you're trying to not focus on anything and just exist. Sometimes I'll start meditating and I'll be satisfied with 10 minutes sometimes I'll go for up to 45 minutes to an hour. It all depends on what I need in the moment.

    The point of expanding your belly when you breathe is to allow your diaphragm to expand down, which gives your lungs some more room to expand, leading to a deeper breath. When I learned to play an instrument, my teachers instructed us to do this, but never explained why. Years later, when I learned about the diaphragm, it made so much more sense to me.

    I accidentally taught myself to meditate a few years ago. I deal with depression and anxiety which make it hard to fall asleep. I started to lay in bed and try to focus on my breathing. Counting sheep never helped. It was really hard to keep my mind clear of all the bad thoughts. But when i would catch myself slipping i would force myself back to my breathing. I would imagine a set of lungs filling and emptying with each breath. I kept my hands on my chest. I would think in and out as i felt my lungs fill and empty. Sometimes i would think the opposite just to give my mind something to focus on. Eventaully i got to the point where i would fall asleep almost instantly after my head hit the pillow. My wife hated it lol. Its been years since ive meditated to sleep and its showing. I no longer fall asleep as soon as i lay down. I need to start again. Thank you for the video.

    • @gomey70
      @gomey70 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's not about turning off your mind. Your mind will naturally wander. As long as you become aware that it has wandered and then re-focus on your breath, that's the important bit. In a 10 minute meditation this will likely happen many times over, and that's fine. Allow your thoughts to come, and just let them go again as you re-focus.

    The goal ISN'T "not to think", instead to detach from thoughts and feelings and then eventually from all things ego. Once you let your thoughts come in and are able to release them just as fast, you will eventually find the void of no thoughts. Sit in that void with full awareness and amazing things will happen.
    One love. Many blessings ❤ ♾

    The purpose of meditation is not to 'not think', it's to become comfortable with your thoughts. If you try to not think...that's a form of attempting to control your experience; unfortuneately we cannot do that.
    As Adayashanti says 'let go of the meditator inside of you' and what he means by that is let you of how you think meditation should be and just sit. Let thoughts, emotions etc...come and go and focus on the space between. That's where the peace of it all resides.

    I am practising meditation for a years. As per my experience beginners should be in the awarness, means just by closing the eyes & hearing the noises coming around you, but not to do action on those noises then automatically your body will go with the flow of perfect breathing. Note it the important thing is just let it go the sound what ever comes around you like a running river and you should not to do any action on those sounds, other wise it will become concentration which is opposite to awarness.

    I don’t know if it’s just me but for me, meditating is me just being as comfortable as possible and just chilling. I don’t have to close my eyes, and I might do things like play with my fingers. As long as my thoughts are flowing free and I’m not overthinking then I think it’s fine. I usually just do it in my bedroom and maybe on my couch in my living room. What do y’all think?
