      There was a time before Monotheism when religions acknowledged the existence of other gods but they were just not the "best" ones depending on the tribe / culture. You can find remnants of that even in the Old Testament in the older writings.

      And they never seem to realize that every religion that came before theirs was taken just as seriously, had followers that were willing to die for their belief, and people who practiced just as faithful and believed their God was just as real, and every single one of those previous religions that no longer exist, are now known to be mythological fairytales. But they just can't see that the same thing is happening to their religion as science slowly proves certain stories in their holy book impossible.

    Hyper simplified example but over the course of thousands of successive generations:
    Mutation results in the formation of a patch of light sensitive cells, no image, just light or not light. That's a survival advantage, as a sudden vanishing of light may signal predators above.
    Another mutation causes the light sensitive patch to curve inwards into a bowl shape. That's a survival advantage, as you now some some limited directional input based on which cells are stimulated and which aren't.
    Another mutation causes the formation of a flap of skin which restricts light entering like a pinhole camera. That's a survival advantage as directional input is now significantly refined.
    Another mutation causes the the alteration of the light sensitive cells to be receptive to different wavelengths of light. That's a survival advantage, as now limited images can be formed based on differing amounts of stimulation of the various cells.
    Another mutation results in the formation of a lens over the pinhole. That's a survival advantage, as organisms with this lens now have some ability to alter focal length, giving clarity to images.
    Point is, the eye is complex, but there's nothing in it that is irreducibly complex such that we had to go from nothing to fully formed eyes in one go. Take the list backwards, each time the eye gets progressively worse, but still functions better than having no eye at all.

    • @jursamaj
      @jursamaj 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@EstebanGrasso Too a degree, that's true. It's just the Doppler Effect. At lower speeds, the doppler has a bigger effect that relativistic time dilation, so at 1st the clock you're headed towards *would* seem to run fast. Once you're moving fast enough, relativity takes over.
      Suppose Earth has been sending out radio waves for many years that carry timing signals. For simplicity, we'll just say then send out 1 'tick' per second, coded with the clock time at Earth. An observer at Alpha Centauri tunes in, and hears 1 tick per second. Now, 3 travelers set out from Alpha Cent., one headed towards Earth, one headed away, one headed perpendicular, all at 1/2 of light speed. Each will be affected by a 13.4% time dilation, relative to the stationary observers at Earth & Alpha Cent. But then there will be that doppler shift. For the one headed towards Earth, that results in a 33% compression of the incoming signals, while for the one headed away, the signals are stretched to twice as long. The net result is that the inbound guy hears the ticks every .77 seconds, while the outbound hears them every 2.31 seconds. The guy headed sideways gets no doppler, only the dilation, and hears a tick every 1.15 seconds. (All the travelers' times are as read from their onboard clocks.)
      For an approach speed of about 84% of light speed, the dilation and the wave compression cancel out, and the onboard clock would match the received signal. Even faster, and the signal will seem slow.
      I just picked 1/2 light speed because it was a mid-ground, but it turns out that is in fact the approach speed that yields the highest signal rate.

      Magic or the supernatural, has frequently been defined as anything which occurs outside scientific understanding(Which is defined as the scope of the natural world(At least according to Wikipedia)), therefore, if this man doesn't hold scientific understanding within himself, then at least locally, the the observed world kinda fulfills the definition of magic/supernatural. If this definition of supernatural is valid, then all currently supported natural scientific phenomenon have actually, by definition, been actually supernatural(Before the advent of scientific inquiry). Supernatural isn't defined as that which is impossible(That would be self-evidently ridiculous), instead it is merely that which transcends our scientific understanding. Therefore, things like dark-matter and dark energy are also by definition actually supernatural(Because they exist, but aren't currently scientifically explained with supporting evidence).

    There's a good example of cinematic sound in space in fiction : Dead Space. In this video game, the main character is an engineer who finds himself in an apocalypse, and when he goes out of the ship, we can hear explosions. But only when the guy walks on the thing that gets some of itself blown up. The muffled explosions are explained by the fact that vibrations spread to his suit, which means that whenever he flies off, we don't hear anything anymore. I just like how the devs made it more believable that way.

  • @MakotoKamui

    At the very least, I can be an apologist for the Star Wars sounds, even if our two short videos guy doesn't get it yet - sensors in the ships interpret things like ships moving and exploding and shooting and play sounds over the speakers in the ship to add sensory input that the folks in the ship could use. We even see a form of evolution towards that in action right now, as electric cars are adding 'engine' sounds so that the drivers hear that they're driving faster than they realize, and how pilots have audio inputs and stick shake as indicators to assist them in passenger jets. It makes total sense that if we ever get to the point of space ship combat, they'll add all sorts of feedback for the pilots, even engine wooshes and explosive booms.

      @@Callimo I think you're right that it has a lot to do with god. Their religion holds that god is in control of everything. So they assume that science must work the same way. Since they can't jam their god into natural processes as described by the sciences, they dismiss science and this then is proof of god. It baffles me how anyone can think like this and it amazes me that they get from one end of the day to the other without serious mishap.
