I'm sick of apologists telling me that I can't be empathetic. Just because *they* need a god to tell them to care about people doesn't mean the rest of us do.

I once saw footage of an atheist (probably Hitchens or Dawkins) being told by a christian that without god people would go about killing each other. The atheist in question then answered that he was glad the christian was still a believer, if that meant it would stop him from killing anyone.

    • @trevcam6892

I agree. As an atheist I consider it important to treat every person with dignity, empathy and equally. I am more concerned about others than the person preaching fire and brimstone. That makes me, an atheist, a better person. This is our only life. Let's make it as good as possible for everyone.
And when we reach the inevitable end of our existence remember the words of the poet Dylan Thomas to his dying father, "Do no go gently into that goodnight. Rage, rage against the dying of the light." That's my plan, anyway. Or maybe I'll just bypass that bit by falling off a mountain.

The truth is that it is them who don't need and often do not have any empathy for others who are different than them. They are just following orders and pretending to be good out of fear that their loving God is going to have them tortured for all eternity and not of their own free will or emapthy.

@@vernonchitlen8958 Just because we don't know how exactly it did not happen does not make it untrue. Not once in the history of our species has ever the correct answer for anything been anything other than natural cause. And you claiming that "it'll be this time!" is nothing more than a god of the gaps fallacy.
What we do know however is that forming of pre-biotic molecules didn't happen for no reason. Exothermic environments select for more complex molecules because they are better at transmitting and releasing heat. And thus as long as the necessary ingredients are there, forming of a self-replicating molecule becomes an eventuality. And once self-replication has been achieved, complexity is only a matter of time. Heck we can very trivially simulate the evolution of complexity, and have been for years. Only willful ignorance keeps you from acquiring this knowledge. And using replication crisis as an excuse is dishonest as even if a study can't be replicated, the other studies around the subject co-aligning the results of the original basically confirm the results, and weed out the frauds.

unfillable “gap” is there being a natural process from the chemical elements to life. You cannot synthesize all 20 of specific amino acids in anywhere near a collection that one protein could form from the 4 elements, hydrogen, oxygen, carbon and nitrogen. It is totally irrelevant if you “make” one molecule or 100 of RNA. Perfectly pointless. The chances are absolutely nil in being in proximity for chemistry to take place in a sea of molecules to combine. Self replicating? There are 1.6 sextillion water molecules in a drop of water. How they could possibly combine and what would preserve them for the other components for a cell to appear? The lipids, sugars and nucleic acids. The gross willful ignorance is yours. Strip a couple million amino acids from animal and or plant proteins. Dump them in a drop of pure water, absolutely nothing will happen. Not only will they be lost in a crowd of 1.6 sextillion molecules, and the energy to overcome the resistance of the amino acid molecules to bond, energy strong enough that one molecule of water gets ejected? You live in a fool’s paradise believing your imagination or the very piddling experimental evidence for abiogenesis is rational. It’s inadequate, pathetic, greased by gross exaggeration.

Religion has screwed this world up.
In the grand scheme of things, anything a republican, MSM media talking head , evangelist, or white supremacist says means nothing.
Understanding the past is not an American, MSM media, nor especially a republican, evangelist, or a white supremacist trait. It is a human trait. We are screwed as long as republicans, MSM media talking heads, evangelists, or white supremacists have any sway in our discourse.
Shit happens because evangelists, republicans, MSM meat heads, and white supremacist asswipes have a say in our government.
      Deflection, distraction, and projection.
This is the republican/evangelist/white supremacist playbook.
I have one question for republicans/evangelists/white supremacists. What have you done in the last 50 years to help people that aren't dickhead rich cretins or brain dead sheep?
When any of the many republican reactions fail, republicans/evangelists/white supremacists fall back on their primary trait; Deception (lying).
Face it, people, as long as meat headed republicans and the needle dicks known as white supremacists and the con men known as evangelists have a say in our government we are screwed!
How does this shit happen (Rhetorical)?
Shit happens because we allow racism/sexism to exist.
Shit happens because rich people don't care about US or climate change.
Shit happens because republicans, corporatists, and evangelists want our society to be functionally misanthropic.
Shit happens because we haven't taught our kids right from wrong.
Shit happens because we are ruled by misanthropes who don't give a shit about anyone but themselves.
Shit happens because we don't care anymore that republicans have made a mess of everything and that "R"s will save US.
Shit happens because we don't have proper media coverage.
Shit happens because we don't care anymore.
Republicans (who are mostly white supremacists, evangelicals, corporatists are not your friends.) They are the ooze from your backside and the meat from your nose.
I would like to believe we are better than that.
I can not be troubled by these assholes.
They will continue to screw US over until they have won.
The best/worst part is that when they win they will inherit the wind.
We are ruled by corporations and evangelical miscreants.
This whole world is a SHITSHOW!
We seem to be screwed no matter which way we turn.
I love US and will not be denied.

Honestly, despite it being such a strong and adversarial claim, I think some forms of Christianity being taught to kids could be called child abuse. My parents indoctrinated me into IFB Christianity, and some of the personal consequences to me because of that have been depression, loneliness, self-loathing, social anxiety, nihilism from having trouble finding “meaning” on an emotional level, and when I was younger insomnia from fear of hell. I really don’t think it’s a stretch to call something that can produce _that_ in a person “child abuse” . And if you try to drill down to see why my parents believed this was the best way they could raise me, they’ll each say it’s because they had one hallucinatory experience they ascribe to YHWH for no good reason aside from being born in the southern US.
So we have a belief system that produces no good and lots of harm being taught for no good reason. Again, I really do think it’s fair to call that child abuse. Now not all types of Christianity are that bad, but I’d say minimally that anything which teaches kids they are born broken, worthless, and powerless to change themselves is best described as child abuse.

You can only sustain a population that you can feed. So that means that ancient civilizations populations fluctuated significantly due to famine and disease and all sorts of other reasons, so this idea of a constant growth rate is laughable. Then there is the fact that if we came from 2 people, then populated the world with all that incest, then bottle-necked the genes again after a flood, that would mean that humans would have almost identical genetic make ups. One of the key reasons for that growth rate change he objected to? Where there was a long and slow gradient changing into a curve? Farming and settlement. For a very long time we were a nomadic species and the populations were in a balancing act, losing more people to disease, conflict between groups, and famine, and unable to just pump out children nonstop to replace them since they had to keep traveling. It wasn't until farming was implemented that we had the ability to properly support a larger stable growth rate. It was then we began to settle into a town and city like structure of living. The two combined allowed for the increased birth rates (and increased consumption of food to produce and support the extra children) and more reliable shelter from the elements, thus, a more stable growth rate was established.

    • @Lobsterwithinternet
      @Lobsterwithinternet 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Not to mention that having a reliable food source also freed the growing population to focus on specializing and creating new things that also helped lower the mortality rate and increased life expectancy.

Even after the agricultural revolution, the human population had to claw its way up to the species it is today, by overcoming population decimating viruses, wars, infant mortality, occupational hazards and hell, even the climate would kill us if we didn't constantly cut down trees to burn to heat our houses for part of the year until just a century ago.

As a side note agricultural societies weren't much happier (from what we see) than hunter gather communities with dogs. Although they are both much happier than what came before.

doesn't this sorta describe actually what that God-Thing did to Adam and Eve?

can only be achieved by eating the fruit of knoweledge.
Cause that God-Thing seemed to actually has planed it out for this to happen, instead of giving them this ability and the knoweledge, so for that God-Thing can curse everything, all life-forms, the earth itself, light,.. simply everything.. for just 2 people doing something they are simply couldnt understand to be wrong.

Thankfully my brother and sister-in-law knew to seek medical help bc even though there were quite a few close calls where we almost lost him they credit his survival to the Christian god. I used to be Christian myself but "lost" my faith after a really bad NDE that opened me up to reading the entire Bible as I was seeking answers to why I am now forced to live the rest of my life in tremendous pain and severe loss of memory retention and other loss of functions in my body. So to me all the thx goes to the wonderful doctors and nurses that did their best to keep my nephew on track with treatment and help him be as comfortable as possible bc in case anybody doesn't know chemo therapy among a dozen other procedures are very painful. No 5yr old should have to experience that. And if there really is a god then they would be the most sadistic, torture loving being to ever exist. Then when you throw all the contradictions and inconsistencies from the Bible on top of that pile you start to realize just how made up all this superstitious nonsense is. Even if I don't have moral absolutes I still have morals and I hold my children (and myself) accountable. Even the Yanomami have morals, if you care to look into their society.

You only have one chance in life...so morals are very important to an atheist.

It’s a fake analogy to say that there is no absolute morality therefore you can do what ever you like. Morality is subjective and learnt from the society we live in. Strange how that works.

The only way to have a drinking game and stay sober with a hovid video would be to take a drink every time they didn't distort the truth.

Telling lies to children that if they don't fall on their knees to an imaginary entity, they will burn in hell after they die, is child abuse.

Eric claims that we are all looking at the same stuff and the same evidence... While leaving out the fact that in many cases doing so was blasphemous and that those Christian scientists who did look for God through science utterly disagree with Creationism as a result of that search 99% of the time.
The only reason why the faithful are able to look at the same evidence as everyone else is because of those who did not look to the Bible (or other holy books) for answers as to how the universe works.

@James Henry Smith There was a book burning recently actually. Only one was a Bible though because a satanist snuck in to the pyre Christians were using to burn other books... Again.

@James Henry Smith Christians often say "Stop that book", since I was unclear.

"You can't have empathy in an atheistic worldview"
Weird... I'm an atheist, and I still have empathy. I must be one of these fake atheists who actually knows god exists without knowing it some apologists love talking about.

A year ago I would have thought that this kind of video was boring old hat, but at that time I had never actually met a young earth creationist.
But recently, I have spent a significant amount of time talking with such a person. It is mind blowing and terrifying to know that these non-rational people are able to vote and skew public policy towards their beliefs.
My interest in educating fundamentalists about reality has been renewed (does that make me a born again atheist 😂).
