Jenny Doan is piecing a fiery ring of patchwork with precut layer cake squares from the Artisan Batiks - Hermosa collection by Robert Kaufman. This pattern is based on the super-simple Pecking Order quilt, but a quick border gives each block an extra layer of pizzazz. (Go ahead and sing as you stitch: "I fell into a burning ring of fire...")

We had problems with that piece because we were all singing Burning Ring of Fire. LOL Beautiful quilt and thanks for singing with us. We all sounded so wonderful together.
I love this pattern. Thank you for sharing your problem solving for getting those seams to meet. I'm glad I'm not the only quilter who "tails off" at the end of the seam.
Jenny, you are a hoot! I about fell off my chair laughing when you started singing, I was so surprised!! Thank you for the laugh, I really needed it right now, and the quilt is great!!
Thank you, Jennie, for showing us that even you have to rip and resew. I know it makes me feel better when things don’t go as perfectly as it should.
Am working on this now, love it. If you use a 3" square on the 5" it makes a slightly larger tri which balances with the size of the tri made by the strip tris when the quarters are sewn together. It also closes the circle made by the tris. If you press the 5" strip out and the 7" so the seam allowance points in they will nest when joining the quarters.
Thank you for the video, the camera angle means Jenny’s head keeps getting in the way!
Oh that’s okay-I really like her haircut! I took a screenshot to show my hair stylist!
Jenny's nice haircut aside, it would be much appreciated if the one camera angle could be adjusted to reliably show us what she's doing instead of the back of her head.
It's so refreshing when you, be you ,and not put on airs. That's what I love about you and yes, I was singing it, Ring of Fire, by Johnny Cash.
I love that song too. Fun story: when my mom was little, the radio station caught fire one night and the only record that was not burned was “Ring of Fire”. The radio station just had to play it over and over.
Love how it comes together and yes ring ⭕️of fire 🔥 has been stuck in my head from yesterday’s preview 😂
I always do my sashing like that, it enables you to line up the blocks properly. The Gourmet Quilter showed us that years ago. I’m so glad you’ve shown us too, so much better than long strips of sashing.
@lucy7b I miss the Gourmet Quilter!
@@lesa6399 she’s still around.
Oooh... Im thinking Christmas wreaths in this pattern! Nice singing voice btw!❤
I Love this pattern, but since it is almost Christmas I think in terms of red, white and green. Reds in the layer cakes, white snow balls as the ring and green in the 'corners' and sashings. That could work.
OMG, I love this! I was totally singing that song
Love it!!! Watching here in a post turkey haze .. totally love this one. I've wanted to do this pattern for a long time. Sure looks pretty with batiks! Wow!
Ok... Back to napping... Thankful for you Miss Jenny and all the crew!!!
Love that Jenny sang Ring of Fire! So fun
Great solo; thanks!
I am a new quilter and I've never actually seen a quilt in person. I am having a hard time with my first block because there are things I just don't get until I actually see it done correctly. I wish I knew a quilter or had one near me so I can watch how she does it. That would be a game changer for me because I could learn how to do it much easier than just watching videos. 😊 But I love all of your quilts and videos.
Have you tried watching Jordan Fabrics tutorials? Her tips and tricks are very helpful.
This is such a fun quilt - I love how the colours pop! The design reminds me of crocheted trivets that my grandmas table was always adorned with. I love it!
Made this pattern a couple years ago with Anne of Green Gables fabrics. It’s called Magic Stars. Quick use of a layer cake.
What accent color did you use? My AoGG fabric is still sitting in my stash. I've been waiting for it to tell me what it wants to be. Maybe I'll make a suggestion, lol
I divided the 10” lights and darks and then sewed them in pairs, creating the contrast. So there isn’t just one contrasting color. The pattern is “Magic Stars” by Aneela Hoey. I wish there was someway to add a pic here, but I don’t see that option. Hope this helps!
Brilliant! Thanks!
Well, I was thinking of something quite different! Lol! Beautiful quilt!
Me too!
I hear “ring of fire” and think volcanoes, earthquakes and plate tectonics, but the song does come in second. Yes, I’m a geology nerd.
Make a geological quilt! I'm inspired to make one for my nephew. Use something like the Stonehenge "rock hued" squares and either that gorgeous, almost neon, coral color from kona or maybe a flame colored batik for your background.
I am a geologist and I thought the same.
I’m just a “closet” nerd 😊 First thing that instantly popped into my brain was YES ‼️FIRE 🌋☄️🌋🔥🌋🌞🌋☄️🌋🔥🌋
I've seen Bushcraft Bear's videos durring Canary island and ( last 2 yrs.) Been trying to think/ figure out volcano STRING QUILT!?
BEAUTIFUL quilt Jenny! Love your cheerful displsition with singing...❤❤❤...made my day!
Love the quilt. Love Johnny Cash! The back of Jenny’s head…not so much (but your hair is pretty 😉).
It's nice to see that you also have to use the stitch ripper on occasion x
I'd love to make this with Linen Cupboard as backgrounds and a yellow as the accent ...and I would call it Sunshine (something or other). ;-)
Such a great job, Jenny! Beautiful quilt! You have a lovely voice, Jenny! I hope you sing in the church choir!
Pecking Order is on my 2024 quilt list. I love this one too.
Thanks Jenny.
Love the Quilt AND the Sing-a-long😁😁😁
Is there leftovers from the fabric after cutting? I noticed you stacked it to the side but didn't mention having to use it.
Love this quilt. Would make a good baby quilt.
Surprise! A sing-along. Great fun was had by all. It was cool to see how you fixed your little boo-boo. And so quickly, too. Sometimes, when that happens to me, if I get frustrated, I just put it down and go off to do a little something. It helps me to be able to come back in a few minutes and know/realize what's happening and what to do. Thanks for sharing with all of us. Your the best, Ms. Jenny. Blessings to you, your family and crew.
How fun! Absolutely love this quilt. I believe Johnny Cash approves😊
Singing was fun❤❤❤❤❤
Hugs!
Love this quilt❤❤. Happy Thanksgiving, everyone from South Texas.
I love you Jenny, as you were one of the first quilters I followed-there were 2 others before you hit the online quilting world!! We all love you, Jenny !!!
Another one for my bucket list! You are a good singer, but don't quit quilting because I would miss that!
I remember the Pecking Order pattern, but this one is so much more dynamic with all the colors and the bordered squares. I love this one!
... boah !!! was für ein lustiges Bügeleisen... sowas hab ich ja noch nie gesehen... 👍👍👍👍👍👍
Just singing along from Wales UK Love that you thought of that just like mos of us Johnny Cash was awesome. Definitely a quilt I will ;be trying. It reminded me a lot of the flying geese log cabin quilt from days past.
I love this pattern~ but I especially love seeing that even expert quilters have to rip out stitches!! Thanks!
That. Was wonderful signing, Jenny!!
Love this pattern. If you squint your eyes you can almost see a secondary ring with the lighter batiks...too me it looks like a big sunflower. I hope I'm not the only weird one that can see this.
I'm glad to see you have issues with seams! I feel better now!!😊
The Pecking Order pattern is what turned me on to quilting because it was so easy. Thank you Jenny!
LOLOLOL I couldn't believe it when you broke into song. Love it! Oh and I liked the quilt too.
Thank you from the UK Jenny. I have just returned from a quilting retreat and did a fair bit of ripping where my seams had gone of at the ends.
Jenny you are our little ring of fire! You keep all of us in suspense with a burning desire!
I have loved for many years that you show ripping and resewing! It happens to the best of us! 😊
I love sewing with Batiks, my favorite. Thanks for the awesome quilt.
Jenny you tickle my heart!! Thank you for the awesome pattern
I made this quilt but made it rectangular by using the leftover fabric for making 3 more squares. It turned out great.
Quilting and singing... Doesn't get any better than that for this hectic day.
Very nice pattern. The batiks really add to it.
Great Job Jenny! I loved this video. Especially that you showed your mistake and how you fixed it (and did not edit it out). I think this really helps all of us to know even the "experts" have a relationship with "Jack". And the tip about batiks and caution in ripping seams out. This was a very helpful video, beside being informative, your singing was great!!!
What a fast quilt. I never thought to use a honey bun for sashing. Thank you for the tip! 🤩
I really like this one! I think I would make a little larger, maybe 4 X 5 rows! Guess I'm gonna have to make this one for sure!
I cannot be any more thankful for these tutorials. I have been watching since the start and love them all.
Thank you Jenny for showing that we can all miss a seam or such,we're human. Love ya!
This is cool! Thank you Jenny! Love it!
I about fell into a ring of fire in anticipation! This is great. Thank you for sharing.
Love how it flows! Thank you Jenny! ⭕🔥
Спасибо что поделились таким замечательным блоком и самим одеялом! Вношу его в свои планы 2024 👍
Great pattern jenny love your tutorials
Love this quilt, very beautiful and fun!
Beautiful colors in this quilt
❤your ring of fire! It's very nice how you built the ring of fire 🔥 Thank you Jenny Doan for showing us how it is done😊
Thanks Jenny for a great quilt block.👏♥️🇦🇺
What a fun block....love me some Johnny Cash too!
This episode made me smile so much! Thanks Jenny and crew! Love the pattern. I'd like to try it with my scraps.
Thank you for showing us this block …. Love it 🥰
I have done this pattern a couple of times, mine turned out nasty 😐. Its all about the colours. Jenny does proper colours, and her quilt turned out perfect 😍.
I hear you. I feel so frustrated when that happens to me. Now I look for internet images of the quilt I'm planning and find a colorway that I like. Then I shop for similar fabrics. I also lay the fabrics out together before I start cutting and stitching
Great fun, Jenny! Thank you for sharing this fabulous block. I love the design and fabrics. ❤❤😊
Jenny, you never cease to amaze me! Love the quilt and your singing!
What a beautiful use of those batiks! Now I know what to do with the layer cake I just purchased! That you, as always, Jenny for your fun videos! I watch you every morning. Seen 'em all..... a couple times!
I absolutely love this quilt. I’m going to make it. Thank you, Jenny.
Beautiful, just love the quilt. Fabric is a great choice.💕💕
I'm in love with this block. I'm putting it on my to-do list. 🎶💐💖
Great pattern. I'll have to try this one. You are a really good singer! That was fun.
I will have the ring of fire in my head all day love that song this is so cute love the quilt thank you enjoyed your singing
Good singing Jenny! Love this quilt, fabulous job.
Loved that you used batiks with this pattern! I also appreciated you showed us sometimes we have to rip out stitches to get it right! Thanks, Jenny!
Jenny you are silly & fun! That’s why we love ya! & that’s exactly what I was thinking! Ring of fire song!
Love love love this block!
Thanks so much Jenny. Such a pretty block…very unique. As usual, you’re the best..simply the best, as Tina sang 😍🇦🇺
I loved your Johnny Cash rendition! You’re a woman of many talents!😅
beautiful quilt
Love this quilt. I enjoy your tutorials more when it’s just you. Seems easier to follow.
Lovin your ring of fire quilt today and yes I did go play the song at the end. Thanks Jenny.
Beautiful quilt! This is on my "must make" list.
Love this block. Your quilt is beautiful
Hi Jenny I live this pattern and it is so! nice to see even you make mistakes. Thank you for your tutorials.
Love Love Love the singing.
I made the pecking order quilt years ago and still love it. This looks totally different so it's on my to do list.
Love this pattern. Thank you for showing how humble you are. You have a great voice too btw
It looks great, Jenny!
Yes, as soon as you said Ring of Fire, the song started for me too. Love Johnny. A lot of the mistakes like being angly-challenged or doing something because it's 'how my brain works' are the same issues that I have. I was told by a professional that I am pattern dyslexic. I wonder if we share that. And yet we both chose quilting in spite of the challenges. This was such a great video. As much as I love Triple Play, I think these are my favorites...just you and me. (And a few thousand others. LOL)
Beautiful quilt!! I love it!
Ive been struggling to do a western theme quilt for my husband's uncle. I heard "ring of fire" AND THOUGHT PERFECT! i did change up the blocks a little...
I just want to say I love you! And thank you for what you do. I have been watching your videos for years, and it helped me a lot during the darkest days. Not to say I learnt a lot and created beautiful pieces for home.
Stunning!
I loved this block!! It will be a future project, thanks!
That was a great song and this is a great quilt. Thank you Jenny.
