Not only is Jack's work inspiring, but just hearing him talk about his processes and limitations and quirks makes me want to go out and make something.
Watching this has made me appreciate this song so much more (even though it was already my favorite song on the album). Its so interesting so hear the meaning behind it, as well as hear all the little details that I didn't notice before. Amazing!!
He is one of very few producers I've come across who are super candid about their process, limitations and road blocks included. It's disheartening to watch these types of videos where the producer is just like "oh yeah i just magically came up with this #1 song in 10 minutes". like NO he says this took months and he had mental blocks and asked friends for advice and input. I appreciate that, I want to see more of that realness!
Honestly though, it happens both ways. There are songs that take years, others that happen in a week. Occasionally, less now because of all of the production editing that has to happen, even in a day.
@@BeauStephensonVoiceActor oh I totally agree, the core idea might come to you super fast. I guess I'm referring to artists that make it seem like from idea to finished mastered track took them like an hour to do and that they didn't tinker with anything along the way or change up ideas at all. I just appreciate anyone that acknowledges most things are not effortless and it's okay to admit it took a lot of time and trial and error.
@@SincerelyHannah sometimes you feel extremely creative and that's when you're most productive. producers have bad days as well. since their job is kinda draining because they milk every single idea they have, especially a producer like jack who tries to make everything unique and special. that's my speculation on why it takes that much time.
@@jackieburkhart3268 yeah his music isn't cookie cutter so it's definitely going to take more time and thought to create something. I'm a music producer and songwriter myself so I totally get that and can relate to the experience of a song taking more than an afternoon to come to fruition, that's why I really appreciate him!
When my kids get fed up with the state of the world, I counsel them to look to the artists; to remember that for all the bad stuff, there are people who dedicate their time to creating beautiful things. This is no small thing. Love this song. Thanks for this video.
This was so enjoyable to watch and to hear the thought process and the progression. All that hard work and the idea progression was so satisfying to watch.
Always enjoy listening to a musician talking about writing songs. I wrote an album 40 years ago with a Tascam porta studio on cassette, we have come along way since then. Hahaha. I love the fact it isn't about the chords but the sound just like 40 years ago. The more things change the more they stay the same. Very interesting.
"The one moment of the day you think clearly" Me just as I've woken up: I need to make sure Brendan doesn't bring mayonnaise to that concert this afternoon, it will ruin it if he does. Also me 5 minutes later: wtf i dont even know a Brendan?
Jack is literally a musical GENIUS. We should all feel really blessed to be living when he's alive and making music for us to thoroughly enjoy. Such talent from one person, blows my mind when I hear this song.
It’s mostly daddy’s money. Plenty of people could do this better. Hell, I do. I wasn’t born rich. Amazing people spend so much money now to all sound the same. It’s capitalism.
i just realized the chords to this song are very similar to lorde's liability... which is understandable considering he produced her entire melodrama album ❤️
@@jkimv7481 i wasn’t trying to diss anyone! i was just saying that lorde wasn’t stealing from jack really, cause it’s a common progression. i love both their music
@@coleemmersonhallman5329 hahaha it’s cool 😁 i wrote that comment 11 months ago and you pointed out something that was very fair that should’ve also been quite obvious to me 😅 and i love them both too! hope you have an awesome day ☺️
He's going to be seen as one of the greatest producers of the last 20 years by the end of the next decade! Thank you Jack for inspiring young producers and songwriters
Crazy that there's people running around that think nothing like most of us, and have the vision to put together so many small things to create something out of it. It's basically magic, to me at least.
Great vid. Good insight. Question….when [person] adds trumpet/bass etc. Are they getting paid for a session? I’m always interested in these productions where lots of people are involved. Do you just buy them a coffee? Contribute to their record? How does that work. 👍
Fuck my band played a festival with Bleachers in 2015 but didn't know them then ... was totally hanging beside Jack in the artist tent but had no idea I'd regret not meeting him.
In 100 years from now I'm sure you'll still be hearing song writers say "I made this song Beatlesque". But not likely that you'll hear "I made this song Taylor Swiftesque".
Nice job on the mixdown, Been busy in the studio myself wokring on music, writeing lyrics and stuff. If there was ever a time dont hesitate to reach out man. I tried to but apparenly you'r email was blocked.. Nice job. one music creater to another,,

One hundred percent agree with Aaron Longoria! In fact, I’m going to go create right now... super inspiring 🤓

I could listen to Jack Antonoff talk about music and his process forever. What a passionate person.
Ted Kaczynski was passionate, doesn't make his work any good.
It's wonderful to hear someone who so clearly understands their medium describe to you the process by which they created their art.
Such a good song that gets better when you see how it was pieced together
Patrick Keastead exactly 🙌🏾 well said
"And that pissed me off because we'd heard that already"
Basically sums up Jack's songwriting process. Just so special and unique
Hey 🌹
That's rich from the guy redoing the same production gimmicks over and over and applying them to the most formulaic pop...
Man I woiuld love to just hang out for a day in Jack's studio noodling around with ideas
Damn that man is a genius!
0:29 mug says "let the bliss begin" like the lyric in solar power
THAT CUP!!!! "Let the bliss begin!"
This is my favorite song off the record.
On da record
I bet my ass Lorde once saw the "Let the bliss begin" cup and was like: you know what? I'll take it
One of my top three Bleachers songs. Love this guy, one of a kind!
Jack is the best producer. He shares his samples for free.

goodmorning is one of the best songs ever written honestly I'll never get over it
So brilliant. The "I'm Ready To Move On/Mickey Mantle Reprise" was another track from the new album that immediately made me think of The Beatles.
This man can turn chaos into music.
i cannot explain how much i love this video, i come back to it every few months. it brings me so much joy.

I love your lyrics and how they are so sad and so complex yet the beat seems so happy but so confusing it’s honestly beautiful

He's becoming one of my favourite musicians! Great guy and hard worker!
My favorite off of gone now! Seriously incredible
This is so inspiring
Please make more of these!!!
He’s so talented and the way he works it’s just amazing
I can't wait to see him live!
Such a genuine genius
Him talking about what’s in his head reminds me so much of Brian Wilson from The Beach Boys
You are looking so good
Remeniscent of “whiter shade of pale” by provolones harem, especially that synth string part.
0:29 I guess we know where Lorde got the inspiration for that one lyric in Solar Power lmaoooooo
One of top 3 favorites from him! Genius!
yes more of this!

Eric John lol would make sense because he helped Lorde with melodrama
Yeah he and Lorde were the executive producers of Melodrama
it's the same chords technically
hahahahaha yes !!

learned a lot here

How have I never heard this song until now????
Nico Segel. Perfects every song he touch

wow, beautiful studio.
wish i had an ounce of his creativity
Now I’m inspired to create my new little studio
beautiful
i enjoy how he hates his own song throughout explaining his process
He's such a fucking genius 👏
Now I know why I liked this song so much
i don’t know why this video made the song sound so much more meaningful and interesting
And then he recycled the Beatle-esque sensibility on Lana Del Reys new album on The Greatest
This is the best song of the year imo
jokes on you; i never have a moment where the full weight of life isn't on me

Whiter Shade of Pale type organ would be cool
what's the tool near his mouse he tweaks at 3:22?
It's just the monitor controller ( to control the volume and what source you want to listen to ) . The model is Dangerous Music Controller ST
2:04 super bass-ic xD
i’m so attracted to this man

Lana at the top of her game working with him.
