Ive listened to Everybody Lost Somebody, but this version man...it hits harder. Feels like slam poetry or something, you can hear the honesty in the words
seen them in concert more than any other artist. i think a part of you changes when you hear them live. if you ever get the chance, please do. jack (lead singer) really tries to keep their concert tickets affordable so that everyone can experience what they create and give to their fans. something cathartic and euphoric. everyone from dads to couples to little kids have tears in their eyes listening to them. thank you for everything bleachers
the way you describe seeing them is how I feel about the Airborne Toxic event. you should check them out if you haven't heard them. This is the next band i plan on seeing live when concerts come back.
A nervous sincerity does not easily equate to a man supposedly as famous as this. And yet here he is, giving hope to all us other musicians who feel the introvertedness.
There's something about the spirit of these songs that keep me coming back to this. It's not that the vocals or music is so impressive, but I can't stay away. Simple melody & earnest lyrics get me every time.
Yuuup, same. Stumbling across their Tiny Desk Concert is what got me into them a couple years back and I have always come back to this video every now and again when I’m feeling like I need to feel 😅 I did it again tonight and it still rocked my heart. It’s like a soul cleanse 😂
This is refreshing to see since like jack said, their shows are so high energy and just screaming the words and not acknowledging that the songs are sad as fuck and they were written as sad ballads but during the show we can refute that and just yell and have a good time and dance together
Exactly. Gone Now is a sad record. There’s a recurring theme of loss and longing in every song, presented in either an upbeat or mellow production. These kind of stripped down versions of the songs made the lyrical content more meaningful
Three years later, and I hope you're still saying this. Just got tickets for the 2021 tour and I can't believe how easy and cheap they were to get. You'd think Bleachers would be bigger given how much more popular Jack has become in the last few years.
first time I heard "Everybody Lost Somebody, I thought the lyrics were "Everybody Loved Somebody". The realization of my mistake made the song a whole lot more heart aching.
I feel like when jack does stuff outside of the studio he doesn't feel confident in his voice (why some stuff is spoken, doesn't sing out sometimes) but he has a great voice though!
I watch a ton of these and sometimes I run across one that I have no great expectations for and then I get blown away by how amazing it is. This is one of those times
he dresses like someone's middle aged jewish uncle that is a little jaded about his marraige to his high school sweetheart. I imagine he had on one of those sandals with velcro straps.
When the piano comes in at 6:14 in 'Don't Take the Money,' it feels like when a nostalgic memory suddenly comes to mind during a sunset. This is the best Tiny Desk I’ve ever heard. Thank you, Jack and Bleachers, for this level of music...
I like around 2:10 when the sax player plays the vocal part with Jack. I don't think he expected and you can tell he was like "hell yah that was cool" ...
I get why people don't like it. It's so different from the well-produced album. To me this video shows that songs are only truly awesome, if you get goosebumps, when a not-so-great singer performs with a Band that sometimes doesn't get the timing right. I loved it!
It's because we've all heard the recorded version and are used to it. I personally like this better for sure. It shows we are human with the emotion and the message it conveys.
It adds a bit of reality and relatability. It's understandable why people might love the beauty of hitting a perfect note, but I think a lot of people want to feel like the creator is just like them.
I'm really happy that they use a saxophone in "Foreign Girls" when they perform live. It makes the song at least 10x more enjoyable. I need to get a live version into my music collection 'cause I have a hard time listening to the studio recorded version, thanks to the way the tinny, squeaky horn melody sounds through my (admittedly not amazing) speakers.
Everybody Lost Somebody is probably one of the best songs written in modern music. Every time this band plays it , it evolves. And the way people interpret it and can interpret it makes it grow even more. This band and Jack is amazing. Glad he started this project after Fun.
I had the privilege of seeing Bleachers play at LACMA in 2016 for a small event where the museum played The Breakfast Club, and the band played live with a new soundtrack to the movie ... wherever there should be music, the band played their own stuff. It was incredible, and some of these were featured within the frame of the movie as well. It somehow made the movie more relevant and more sincere, if that's even possible.
not very polished with live vocals but thats how you can tell how talented of a producer he is. like this is rough but all the studio cuts sound great. and on all the songs for other artists you can here how well he can write and produce.
New favorite band! I heard them on pandora a few times and I finally decided to look them up. The emotion they pour out is incredible. The authenticity! This is real art, real poetry, real music. I’m thoroughly impressed. Time to buy their album!
First time hearing Bleachers, if I had to describe the music in one word, "authentic" is what came to mind. Not sure exactly what that even means lol, that's just what my brain decided. I guess because the music really feels like it's pulling no punches, it's not trying to reel you in or trick you (ironic since he talks about tricking people), it's just honest. The lyrics, the music, the vocals, it's just all so direct and ... authentic.
I saw them a day after this. 9-13-17. I will never forget it. It was my first concert ever seeing my favorite band. Also I was in front against the barriers in front of Mikey. I was almost crying at times. I never thought I’d get to see them again but I get to see them again next year in NJ at shadow of the city. Man am I hyped!
This song will get you through the break up with someone, who you have loved more than life itself, and then spent the last 7yrs not asking on a single date. Lol
Jack please make a piano and sax album on vinyl with all of your more heartfelt songs I need one even if its just made up of audible performances already recorded I need one desperately

You can definitely hear his sound in both lorde and Taylor. He is such a musical genius
He really just produced almost every good pop record in 2017.
He wrote for them I believe
He wrote and produced. Melodrama, Reputation, MASSEDUCTION and a bunch of other records.

nothing hits you in the heart quite like the sax in everybody lost somebody
Bet
Holy sheet, that Sax player. Most satisfactory.
Yea that riff and the distressed sound is doing it for me!
*Moist, satisfactory.
I was enjoying the playing throughout, then it got to his small solo at the end and I just wanted to hear more.
yes most indeed
when he just switches to radio gaga by queen in the middle of dont take the money??????? god tier. absolute legend.
LITERALLY MY THOUGHTS
Mine, as well
hi jack antonoff is a genius bye
A nervous sincerity does not easily equate to a man supposedly as famous as this. And yet here he is, giving hope to all us other musicians who feel the introvertedness.
president camacho he's a pretty known introvert as well though.
Raw is the best music poetry we will ever hear.
@president camacho you should be stocking shelves the way you use that label gun

Katie Lynn it's on the same spectrum but regardless you can't lable the scenario and it's impact on the individuals. A fantastic performance
Jack Antonoff is one of the best humans ever.

YES.
He looks like a New York Jewish IT guy on vacation who got lost and ended up on stage and somehow ended up crushing it
Oh my God, I never thought I'd ever see this name again... I miss your content my dude
Probably the best version of Everybody Lost Somebody.
Same with foreign girls
Absolutely
Came here to say this as well. I don't really like the album version very much, especially in comparison to this version.
Check out the version off the MTV Unplugged performance, that whole show was amazing but I love that version as well.
You should listen to Julien Baker's Cover
0:06 everybody lost somebody
5:06 don't take the money
11:27 foreign girls
I think this, if nothing else, makes a case for a Bleachers "Unplugged" album. It's so powerful.
michael faith There is one! MTV Unplugged.
There is one in itunes! ft. carly and lorde! i luv it 😩😩😩
It’s soooo good!! They do an amazing job at dissecting there songs and singing them in a new light and/or angle at a live show
You can totally hear in Don't Take the Money where The Louvre from Melodrama gets its influence
