So much excellent music going on in a variety of genres. A notable foley (i.e. sound effect) snare off the top of my head is a dollar bill being snapped. If you’re into hard electronic music, Billain does all sorts of cool stuff with items and microphones. He’s located in the Baltic region IIRC.
ROBBER so what if i am? i’m simply stating that it blows my mind how FINNEAS uses every-day sounds to make what i feel is incredible music. i wouldn’t say i have deeply looked into music production and what goes into it, but that isn’t the point of my comment.
@@vegandinonuggs yeah that this why I inferred you haven't delved very deep into music production. What he's doing is nothing incredible, in fact it's a common practice to sample every day sounds into a track. I also do that but the reason I still can't get to Finneas's level is becuase of his amazing artistic vision and production skills. THAT blows my mind.
Off the subject just needed to be said: Finneas definitely doesn't feel left out. In one interview he said "Everyone is like that dude deserves to be more than just Billie Eilish's brother. But all I want to be is Billie Eilish's brother". I literally loved him more when I read that. He's such a calm and chill person. He loves his sister so much and I'm sure he feels happy for her. Also, if he wanted to be in the spotlight, trust me. He would. But his "mission" which he put to himself was to make Billie famous. They said they were casually hanging on his bed and he suddenly said "Billie, one day I'll make you famous". So stop saying how he's underrated and stuff. He has what he wants to have (according to him not me lmao what do I know)
This. He already gets so much more attention than producers are used to. It's not fair to him or other producers to call him underrated just because he isn't as big as artists who don't produce themselves. I can say for sure there are producers as talented or even more talented than FINNEAS but just don't get the attention. Imagine how they feel when seeing a producer have billions of streams and videos made strictly about him but he's still underrated somehow. It's hurting the production industry as a whole because if this isn't good enough then what is?
I can feel that he loves what he does, that his heart is beating more high. His art involves everything that is purest in life. Blissfulness in doing what he wanna do. Such a beautiful inspiration.
Yeah, he's an interesting person. He just bought a house for $2.7 million, and at such a young age. His parents must be proud. Billie was not surprised, though. She said he's always wanted to be rich and acted like "a billionaire" growing up.
Techniques: use the voice as another instrument / use everyday sounds as instruments / distort everyday sounds and voice as instruments. Life is an instrument to manipulate into the sounds you want. Cool!
@@BarbaraFischer4 Except that John Cage would hate this kind of music. Not saying that I do, I think Billie's latest album is freaking awesome and Finneas is a genius

He does definitely deserve a lot of recognition, it’s just in the duo he’s more of the producer and instrumentalist, but he is also a solo artist. That’s why he doesn’t push for recognition when it comes to his sister, because he still has his own solo career
I’ve got mad respect for producers dude, not only do they have to master the tech aspect perfectly but the creative genius it takes to put a masterpiece together and make it sound amazing yet effortless is severely underestimated! Listening to Finneas talk is everything!

Finneas is brilliant, but I'd also like to point out how AMAZINGLY this video was produced. All the references and comparisons and in terms of graphics too. Great job!!!
legit so much of his genius is how intentional he is with sounds, and playing off a sense of space, something you rarely see in producers his age. Camila's Used To This was the only song I enjoyed on her album. for weeks I wondered what the sole reason to this was and then noticed the distinct effects used throughout the instrumental. being a huge fan of FINNEAS, I was pleasantly shocked to find out that he'd co-produced. i can't wait to see him collaborate more with mainstream artists and become a true household name in the music industry.
I almost cried at "that was a song we worked on for weeks and weeks". I began making music recently and was wondering how other artists are able to make songs in a day in what takes me 2 months to create a 30 second piece. Hearing this made me feel a little less alone... thank you
Hey. It took Brahms TWENTY TWO YEARS to finish his symphony no. 1. And his peers had considered him the likes of Beethoven (actually, all that pressure really didn't help, either.). Never mind how long it takes you to write any music. Creativity doesn't flow at a constant rate that can be just turned on and off. You might get stumped and who knows how long later you get inspired by whatever and suddenly things will fall into place instead of you beating your head at the wall trying to force it. Plus, as you keep creating some paths get easier--i think probably this is how people end up with their specific sound, you know? Have fun with it And you never know. Some little ditty that you create and dismiss today could be the seed for a much more satisfying piece later. Good luck!
I know this is 2 years ago, but I wanted to say this. Everything that’s good takes time. Good movie, tv shows, books, songs. The good ones all take time to make. Unless you’re a genius, you’re not gonna make a ton of good quality music super fast. Take your time, don’t rush.
this man is only a few weeks older than me and he’s doing… all of THAT… and looks like THAT… and I admire him but like… he hits me right in the self confidence every time man!
Stupid and self destructive to compare your life to his. One in a million become that successful. He also isn’t good looking. Would have guessed he was in his 30s.
HejSofia it’s not that deep, I did it more to compliment him than to put myself down. Also, to look older does not mean you can’t still be good looking. But obviously that’s subjective.
Thia guy is a huge inspiration for all us young bedroom producers that we are basically broke and very limited to equipment. He showed that you can do anything if you love it and have the skeelz

It’s as if the song is fully formed in Finneas’s mind, and it’s just a minor inconvenience to get it recorded. And each song sounds as if there could not have been any other choice. Amazing talent.
He's literally singing thru instruments like his instruments are singing with the vocals instead of just being in the background, which makes the instruments symbolic along with the vocals and the lyrics. So cool.
So inspiring! Thank you for sharing your vision and details. Also I am touched by the fact how you recognised your sister's talent and chose to bring it to shine. That is pure love. Thank you.
I find Finneas and Billie fascinating. Their parents are barely famous and the four of them are crammed into this small house. But they make gold in that house together. They are part underdog and part industry insider. And you really hear that in their music. By recording in their house together, they can indulge their weirdest and most intimate creative moments. But it still has that industry polish. My only complaint with their music is that they sound too much like other artists in some ways. But appeal and innovation are a tight rope in the pop industry and these two are truly unheard of in their level of development at such a young age.
They were never underdogs. They grew up along the industry with musician and actor parents. He had production equipment and instruments since childhood. He acted and was already in the music industry before he connected Billie.
finelinehaven I think the underdog part they are referring to is the dichotomy of all of that you said but they are doing it in a little bedroom and they are kids. So they aren’t saying they are underdogs necessarily but having the aspects you referred to and the underdog aspects is interesting and makes for good music.
Charlie puth is definitely much more musically gifted , this sounds very wel masterd and works with billies voice because it complements each other very well but on it's own it's not strong musically

In the beer brewing community, it's common for brewers to share their recipes because they understand that the result is so much more than the ingredients. Your thought processes, creative processes, and execution are the secret sauce that results in greatness.

Is being someone's sibling an insult?
@@Jackal_Blitz no, not really , but in general most people only know about billie and not finnieas, and some of those that do know about finnieas refer to him as, billie eilish brother, even though hes his own person, plus you wouldn't refer to kanye west as kim.k husband, but as kanye, theres a certain level of respect, by using there name i guess
@@s0ne01 Well that's what happens when an artist uses their name as the title of the act rather than choosing a band name that incorporates all who contribute. Of course the singer that the act is named after is going to get more attention.
finn blows my mind. every time i think he cant get more talented he breaks out “i used the sound of a flight attendant button in i love you” or “i just recorded that riff in like a tent at a festival or something” GOD his mind is a treasure
You seem to be new to the music production culture.
dewy.drawz I’ll expand on what the other person said, and just add that there’s tons of super talented musicians doing equally innovative stuff!

What a DUO!!
“The Kids Are All Dying” FINNEAS ♥️ th-cam.com/video/hRlqRMDWWPs/w-d-xo.html
Off the subject just needed to be said:
Finneas definitely doesn't feel left out. He has what he wants to have (according to him not me lmao what do I know)
i could cry bc of this
Love this

Cool!
When you put it that way, it's a bit John Cage-y, isn't it?
This has been done even before the Beatles came up. (Throwing tennis balls at pianos for example...)
@@BarbaraFischer4 Except that John Cage would hate this kind of music. Not saying that I do, I think Billie's latest album is freaking awesome and Finneas is a genius
Sound design
Love how he’s not afraid to talk about the inspiration and reference tracks for the vibes he was going for. Too often I find myself afraid of trying to sound like a track that already exists, but this video inspired me to start thinking differently.

There are way more talented and complex artists that explained how they did it for free.
Mostly skimming the surface, though. Not so much depth, but still very insightful.
He’s getting paid
True!

I love that Finneas gets just as much recognition as Billie. She wouldn't be where she is without him, and vice versa.

Definetly more tbh.
And she's very aware of that
Meagan Smith that goes for just about any artist and the Producer, that’s why the race is a “producer”.
yeah thats exactly why he has 5 grammys
He does definitely deserve a lot of recognition, it’s just in the duo he’s more of the producer and instrumentalist, but he is also a solo artist. That’s why he doesn’t push for recognition when it comes to his sister, because he still has his own solo career
Netflix needs to make like a serie or something about how Finneas produces music💕
It would be great
just a producer series in general
I was thinking the exact same thing

Finneas is brilliant, but I'd also like to point out how AMAZINGLY this video was produced. All the references and comparisons and in terms of graphics too. Great job!!!
legit so much of his genius is how intentional he is with sounds, and playing off a sense of space, something you rarely see in producers his age. He truly has a vision, and so confidently believes in that vision. If you read interviews with their mixer, he always stresses how little processing he has to do, how he basically just deals with balancing cause the sounds are already perfect.
Finneas is 22!! His talent at any age would be remarkable let alone at his age. Extraordinary.
He's so dedicated, creative, methodical, and intuitive. He has more wisdom and self-awareness at 22 than most people have at 42.
This duo is just obsessed with making great music.
FINNEAS is really something maaaaan. His skills are out of this world 🤯
I love how they put him in a completely different space and acted like thats where he records when really hes still making songs in their parents house
That's prolly where the channel's set up is to record videos.
I think this is the basement of his house. I think he produces music in his house and at his parents house
He moved out

The first thing that impressed me when I first heard Billie Eilish was the way the song was layered. Never heard that way of creating music before - very innovative and creative. Finneas is a true genius
Well he’s literally sharing the references for layering sounds here so he’s not even pretending to have innovated anything really 😂 but definitely they’ve taken it to a new level with cutting down on overall clutter and instruments used
genuinely no offense but the most immediate example that comes to mind is queen in the 70s

Hearing this made me feel a little less alone... thank you
😂😂😂
Have fun with it
And you never know.
Some little ditty that you create and dismiss today could be the seed for a much more satisfying piece later.
Good luck!
You're not alone. Don't be too harsh on yourself.♡
I know this is 2 years ago, but I wanted to say this. Everything that’s good takes time. Good movie, tv shows, books, songs. The good ones all take time to make. Unless you’re a genius, you’re not gonna make a ton of good quality music super fast. Take your time, don’t rush.

But appeal and innovation are a tight rope in the pop industry and these two are truly unheard of in their level of development at such a young age.

finelinehaven I think the underdog part they are referring to is the dichotomy of all of that you said but they are doing it in a little bedroom and they are kids.
