- Michael eventually escapes the dungeon by tricking the guards with an assembled recording of Adrianne's voice. He quickly fixes KITT and rushes to fetch Christina and have the impostor Bergstrom arrested. Once Christina is safe, Michael returns to the estate to rescue Devon and April before the whole place blows. He then races to rescue the real Bergstrom from Goliath's trailer and stop Garthe and Adrianne once and for all.
From Knight Rider Season 2 Episode 18 "Goliath Returns": Adrienne St. Clair has rebuilt Goliath and springs Garthe Knight out of prison. Next they kidnap Devon and April from Foundation HQ in order to lure Michael and Kitt into a trap. Adrienne wants to install Kitt's CPU into Goliath, but Garthe is only interested in getting revenge on Michael.

I don’t think Larson Studios had the insurance for covering accidents during a riskier, more dramatic semi truck fishtail maneuver.

I was going to say this, and it was also nice of him to not rear end Kit at the edge of the cliff and I could mention another dozen things for just this clip. I used to love this show when I was a kid, I even had a Knight Rider digital wrist watch when I was in grade school. Now I look at this and wonder how my IQ didn’t completely plummet.
@@davidjoseph7142 Lolol, try and watch an episode of the Six Million Dollar Man. Loved it as a kid (I guess), but its pretty hard to get thru one of those. The production value is ultra lame.
The fact Garth just drives right over the edge instead of steering just slightly right and taking out KITT always made me shake my head in disbelief.
So much for Garth's "attack".
The fandom wiki says, "Garthe is about to ram into KITT, but Adrianne, who is attracted to Michael, turns the steering wheel to prevent him from killing Michael. Goliath goes off the cliff and into the sea, killing both himself and Adrianne."
Which does make more sense, though honestly I don't really see it onscreen either.
Not to mention that grappling hook stopped a speedy kitt when it was barely in some small rocks 😂

Pretty cool how that T top that was open like a hatch magically vanished when they were both standing in the car. Then both t tops were back on as they passed the truck.
They didn't pay much attention to detail in these TV shows, back in those days!

That's funny. I always though the Garth character was cheesily overdone to the point of comedy. How else though to illustrate the reference of how Michaels reconstruction went as it did.

The episodes with Garth, Goliath, and KARR were the peak of the series. The miniatures of the truck going over the cliff were pretty convincing and the stunt truck driver did a pretty good job keeping that thing stable. The hilarious 80's-ness makes this a hilarious guilty pleasure to watch!
That grappling hook is amazing! Gets shot between 75-100 lbs of rocks that wouldn't hold the car anyway, misses them all, but manages to hook the LOOSE DIRT ITSELF somehow and hold the vehicle.
Yeah, even for "1980s practical effects" that was pretty bad.
this is a movie for kids, I watched it when I was at school.
Well that vehicle is a small model, should hold easily!
You could say that the hook wasn't intended to fully stop the car but just to help slow it down quicker than with just the brakes alone.

I took that as referring to the tractor section. The trailer might have just been an ordinary one that it just happened to be hauling around.

I've sometimes wondered why Garth didn't simply hit the brakes when he knew KITT was behind him. Ah well, pride goes before the fall. In this case literally so.
Big rig trucks have a bigger stopping distance than normal cars in ideal conditions.

Why didn't Garth just ram KITT when the amazing grappling hook that landed on the pebble kicked in? Why did he go around KITT? The plot, so 80's, brings back my youth
It was certainly very considerate of Garthe to maintain a steady speed when he knew KITT was directly behind him. Almost like he wanted Michael to succeed....

Garthe´s passivity amazes me. At no time did he do anything to prevent Michael rescue the doctor (slamming on the brakes or zig-zagging when KITT was behind; nor swerved the steering wheel as the car was overtaking).
Also, it seems to me that Garthe had a couple of seconds there as he approached the cliff with KITT stopped right there.
I guess that this scene was tricky to film, but I guess too that they could have done it a bit more active and realistic. One of the weakest and most absurd endings from the series.

Reverse Turbo-Boost was used once in "Knight in Shinning Armor", this would be a perfect moment to use it again, right at the edge of the cliff. By the way, he could also have Turbo-Boosted out of the forklift in Junkyard Dog, but whatever...
@@wettuga2762 I remember KITT having been incapable to move, and telling so, from any moment in the series where its rear wheels were lifted from the ground at previous moments, so i guess KITT was indeed doomed the very moment the forklift put its fork under the chassis...
At the very least Garth could have taken KITT over the edge with him.

Kitt has the power to pick locks so I guess he did it
Maybe a chain too, but KITT could probably take a laser to it.
They simply forgot to install a lock after installing the self-closing mechanism

This series is completely full of inconsistencies, it's very badly made. It's a kids show. I watched it when I was a kid and I loved it because I didn't noticed the incredible mistakes and inconsistencies. When I was a teenager and watched it again I thought that was truly awful and in adult I find it completely ridiculous. Although 1 thing remains: I truly love the car, even today as an adult I really love how that car looks. It's one of my favorite car designs in the history of cars.
@@HeavenlyWarrior This. It's very unfortunate, makes a lot of it hard to rewatch. At least the stories to me in the first season are the most bearable, just a lot of filming mistakes.

@@HeavenlyWarrior yes I can see what you are saying. The funniest parts to me is every time KITT gets demolished or destroyed, it takes just a few days of story time or 10-15 minutes of screen time for the car to be fully repaired. The show was very exciting to me growing up and when it started streaming on Netflix I felt the same excitement but honestly laugh now at how truly unbelievable some of the content is.

Finally managed to buy all four series on dvd! Loved this as a kid and I still do at 52.
I did the same a few years ago. I even got the 1/32 scale K.I.T.T and K.A.R.R. My older brother even managed to find and get me the Hot Wheels Super Pursuit mode version of K.I.T.T
I can top that. I'm 67 and STILL like "Knight Rider".
DH did a phenomenal job playing dual roles. The Garthe character was so convincing. It did feel like it was an evil twin.
He probably relished the opportunity.

I think, in the 80s, as kids we didn't care about the shows being too precise with technical stuff. The adults probably weren't concerned either. Different times .

Shows like A-Team, ALF, Night Rider were there to keep us kids occupied

A-Team is unwatchable, at least this is fun. A-Team, they empty 12 clips from an AK-47 and no one gets a flesh wound.
Greatest episode of Knight Rider. Hoff was at his best in this episode and also the best season
Hm. Hate to say it but to me this is an anticlimax for Goliath and Garth, they go down without doing anything cool or clever, smashing through anything or firing any weapons, just, yeah I guess I'll drive off a cliff now.

As much as I loved this show, as an organization the Knight Foundation constantly left stuff behind that needed to be collected. Like the two times K.I.T.T. fought K.A.R.R. Go get the parts, man, before some evil genius puts them back together again🤷♂️
Yes and as you can see in this scene there was no explosion, and remember Goliath also had the protective shell so there would still be room for a sequel
The grappling hook was my favorite character; I wish they had done more with it.
