I haven't had a cigarette for over 15 years, but I think that banning smoking dealt a big blow to the local pub. It was much easier to get in a few beers from the supermarket and have a drink and smoke watching TV at home. Then Covid just about finished a lot of them off. Some have revived due to serving food, but like a lot of the High Street, we have to accept that things have changed and aren't coming back. With the internet and digital communication the world is a different place.
@EnbyEmily so you're saying a lot of people have suddenly just got into collecting vinyl? No haha, DJs, mainstream artist producing modern tracks on vinyl ect. Vinyl is coming back for sure this time
In Australia they have smoking lounge separate from the bar with automatic glass doors and air conditioning perfect so you don’t get over whelmed with the smoke
Thanks for what your doing. I left easington around 67 i was 6 years old and migrated to Australia with family.. But the few years i lived in easington colliery.. it was great . Lots of good memories.. i sometimes wonder what i would be doing now if i stayed.. ? Anyway, Keep up the good work .. !
Used to love going out in Easington back in the 80s .Village was great Kings head ,mutton, village inn, top house then down to the Colliery club for the Friday night disco ,and it was rammed.
Tin Pot was at the other end of School Street (other end of the street to HMS Flagship). It's now Frankies gym where my good mate runs the boxing club. Also, don't forget the cricket club 😆 I remember you going in the Mutton back in the day with Red and Oddy? I also remember you drinking in the Village inn back in the 90's where every man and his dog from Easington and the surrounding villages use to pack it out every weekend. Good memories mate.
Back in the early 80's my mam worked as a barmaid in the Village Inn then mid 80's in the Half Moon, I remember the HM being very posh. Keep up the great vids Terry. 👍
Yeah my mam worked in half moon for a short period of time I think as well in the late 70s early 80s I think just thought of that 😂😂 it wasn’t for long tho
Great video. Sad now. My mam was a cleaner in the Liberality tavern( village inn) in the 60's..i had my wedding reception in the legion and the nighttime do in the tin pot. Was a great place back in the day
By terry for a village wouldnt of thought you could fit that many pubs in bet that'll of been some pub crawl on a weekend think supermarkets played big part with the cheap booze and obviously the coid was prbleys the final nail for the pubs never had a pint in Easington mate but looks nice place class vid as always
Every time when I was on holiday in the UK, I was taken to the Victory Club. In fact I became a Member. Fond memories. Gosh! so much has changed. Or, I am very old now.
Missed the tin pot out. Where intafitness gym is. It was at the top of the street where the Victory is mate. Used to drink in the Trust. Drink in the Welfare now. Great place
There was 2 clubs and a pub on my estate 10 years ago now there isn’t any. But everyone stood for it. There was only a handful of people who were bothered so you get what you stand for.
What you are calling The Village Inn, now a convenience store used to be The Liberality Tavern. I proposed to my wife sitting on the bench just outside on the corner. The King's Head suffered a big fire, and I don't know if it ever re-opened. The Shoulder of Mutton on the other corner, as you say, and the Mason's Arms on the side of the Green. Incidentally, there used to be a butcher's shop next to it, and my wife was born in the flat above that. The Half Moon still going well, I think, mainly because of the food. I'm pretty sure there was also a political club on the Green, Liberal or Conservative, can't remember which.
Victims off our own demise old mate the same down south up went the prices everybody started drinking at home once people started moving out off the drinking holes the druggies move in down south you can buy coke off a 13 Yr old going to school??? To help dad pay the mortgage

@@Madsoutandabout yeah everyone predicted it. I used to play snooker at a pub that is a Tesco now. And the landlord said the smoking ban will kill pubs. Look on Google earth and you’ll see. It’s just Turkish barbers.
Enjoyed your video but youve got one wrong; the Tin Club was at the top of School Street and its now a gym, so you were close. The gym at the Village was a company known as Belstaff when i was a lad
