After dealing with eating disorders as a kids I just decided to help myself out. We do not a scale or any full-length mirrors in our home. I love it that way. I love your videos!

Esther what is the most beautiful asset about you is the beautiful transparency of God's truth which permeates through you. You are beautiful within which radiates without! We need a world of no mirrors for a while so people can learn the true meaning of God's Love!

Wonderful video, funny -- I have always thought that you were and are beautiful. Covered in mud, hair a not perfect, no make up -- you have always been beautiful. The true external beauty of a woman is not her figure, not her curves, not her face paint -- the true external beauty of a woman is found in her smile and eyes. The eyes are the window to the soul.
    You have wonderful beauty.
God has never made an ugly person. The ones that get ugly are the ones that turn away from God and allow evil to consume them.
In my own humble opinion (and that is the only opinion that matters to me :-) ) God made you just right. Intelligent, humble, caring, creative, beautiful, and one that truly cares about others.
Beauty is created on the inside, lucky are those that see it glow through to the outside.
My dear -- you are blessed, and you bless us
    Much Love
    Keep smiling.
Never let others control your emotions, keep your feet on the ground and never stop reaching for the stars.

I think your hair looks so nice longer. Your natural beauty and the peacefulness that emanates from you has been helping me to let go of the worldly standard of beauty and feeling like if I don't meet that standard I am less than. I think your more beautiful than any movie star all made up.

I've never been a beauty, and I've (maybe a little) been proud of that. My Irish Grampa built things sturdy and strong, routered the sharp corners, polished the wood, varnished and sanded, till the piece was gorgeous. then he'd stand back and say "it's bully for stout, not pretty for show" , so that's what I'm secretly proud to be,,,,bully for stout, not pretty for show!

    Oh My!
You, in this video, discussed some of the very same issues I've been dealing with internally recently.
It's amazing that when you are able to remove yourself from the outside influences and deceptions, as you call them, even if just a little bit, you begin to realize truths not only about yourself but the world around you as well.
Thank you for sharing this story.

The homestead life compliments you well. I think you look younger now then from the first videos you and your family have published. As a woman myself, I have always felt the prettiest when I'm working outside, even if I'm muddy or haven't washed my hair in days.... Something about fresh air, sunshine, and working with your hands. But the first video I saw (i believe it was "why I quit homesteading after my first year") I just saw a beautiful woman... Because what I saw was pure authenticity... And girl your hair is fabulous! I think we can be our own worst critics . Esther...this is so close to my heart! |I've let my hair grow out grey, I've accepted (almost) the fact that I'm now 65!! Holy Sh_t!! How did that happen? I mostly feel about 45 yrs. old...except those days when my body is aching all over with arthritis! However, I've accepted that too, and have learned to try to give myself some TLC on those days. Instead of being angry, at myself and my body, like I used to. I love what you said about Humility...It takes Courage to be humble. It takes quiet courage to believe who you are without putting so much energy into how you look! I'm often a bit shocked when young people call me Mam...and treat me like I'm old! I have to adjust what I think is going on, to, Oh...Right...they think I'm old! Lol
I really appreciate your videos and your candor. And the fact that you address issues like this one. Thank you. Cate xo

Whoah! That was heady philosophy. Definitely beauty is inside. (Those who think otherwise are just superficial and prefer non-real and plastic.) Your eyes, smile, bubbly personality, a healthy glow, self-confidence is beauty, too. Beauty is seen in your interactions with those around you (your kids, Nick, animals and pets). Beauty is watching your own inner beauty transform into your family and environment.
Oh, about the hair trim: Sometimes just a 1/2" snip across the bottom to get the broken ends evened out makes a huge difference. That's all you might really need and something to keep the hair oils well distributed out to the ends.

Esther, thank you for that wonderful introspection! While i think your hair is lovely (wavy, curly and layered), I myself find that whenever I cut my hair, I feel so much lighter. Not just because of the weight of my hair, but somehow i feel like I'm letting go of something that I don't need to be hanging on to anymore. Or letting go of that which no longer works for me. I don't know if that makes any sense, but getting my hair cut is can be a spiritually "enlightening" experience! Stay beautiful, as you already are! : )

well Esther, coming from a woods man, I think you are beautiful. You are who you are, and we see the real person. I like that and I think others do too. Keep up the good work.

Topic of Tattering... We all as homesteaders can become focused so on results we can miss the fineries of how a mirror sees us. My wife has to put up with me being scruffy much of the week. And I scarcely think how I look when shooting a how to on the channel. Occupational hazard. But like another viewer said you always are pretty - your bright smile and affable nature shine out all over. My wife is like that too - but as yet she still is too timid to be in front of the camera, in time she will I pray. But you are getting out there even when you are not fully plused about you dew. A sign of greater self-actualization. Kudos

Enjpyed this very much; in todays society, too much focus on looking a certain way. Like your hair as it is but you need to do what makes you feel good about it.

I think the idea of wildness has been distorted by mass media. I would suggest that wildness may include the violence of predator and prey, but the vast majority of wildness is the growth of flowers, the meditative standing in groups of trees, and the slow processes of life: the slow unfolding of beauty..
    Thank you

I cut my hair at home. I also cut my partner°s hair and trim his beard. Its pretty easy and I have no previous experience :)

I think your hair looks great just as we see it in this video. Remember when the Israelites escaped Egypt and we're given instructions for crafting the tabernacle and its "furniture?" Their Elohim required the mirrors of the women, mirrors brought out of Egypt, to fashion the laver, the vessel used for cleansing. The general consensus is that His taking the mirrors reduced the propensity for vanity while, may I suggest they were off-grid. :- )

Frankly speaking you have beautiful eyes and a brillant smile. Hair looks good longer. Beauty is good , accept that and enjoy your own beautiful presence.

Do philosophers move to the woods or does living in the woods make people more philosophical? Following your inner direction is something Thoreau would strongly agree with, I think.
