Chad does this thing in this video where he returns to the ride cymbal for a split second after every full measure.
He 100% has never heard the song before, and the way he corrects himself instantly is nothing short of incredible.
His wrist control is amazing. He is about to hit it as hard as previously but he hears the transition in the music and vocals that he is catching himself mid strike.
explain how he plays the ending then. he is off on this song and the way to know that is play this and the actual song simultaneously.
My dude has been a chart topping and iconic rock drummer across 5 decades now. I have no difficulty believing he can actively listen to just about any radio friendly rock band and not only jam along but leave the original drummer wondering why they didn't think of that shit.
topping charts since he was 11? rofl
@@countbleck35 Joined and releasing albums since 1988. 80s, 90s, 2000s, 2010s, and now 2020s. That is 5 separate decades in which he was performing with this band, not 50 years total as you somehow perceived.
@@countbleck35 micro brain moment my guy
@@Antech666 Might want to do some self-reflection on that comment. Lol.
@@Sabamonster You think that was too harsh? lol
Chad is like that kid in an advanced music theory course who has no clue what's going on when it comes to the pen and paper but is a prodigy when it comes to the practical aspect and putting it all into practice.
Best description of Chad I have ever heard.
Chad Smith is without question one of the greatest in the pocket, listening, groove drummers of all time. He LITERALLY could play with ANY BAND and make them better. Arguably a top 10 drummer of all time
You can tell he has not heard it before is it is quite different from the original. I prefer this to the original drums..... by a VERY large margin. I teared up too. Dont blame you on that.
I agree
If you listen you can tell he uses his fills to transition. He’s quick at it too.
Will Ferrel met Chad Smith and had a drum off on Jimmy Fallon about 9 or 10 years ago. lol. If you like these drum interpretations, a female pop drummer named Domino did a decent job improvising a Slipknot (Heavy Metal) song.
He's a world class drummer. This is the very least I would expect from him 😊
Great reaction! Will Ferrel and Chad Smith did a drum skit together on one of the late night shows some years back, it's definitely worth checking out if you haven't already seen it.
Came here to say the same! It was Fallon: th-cam.com/video/0uBOtQOO70Y/w-d-xo.htmlsi=Pu5TvjGsB2mq9K_4
This video of Chad literally brings tears to my eyes. It's breathtaking to say the least. I've watched it so many times and it NEVER gets old.
I'm so used to youtubers with overly long intros that I instinctively skipped to the 3 minute mark. Great reaction. Subscribed. And yes, Chad really is just that good.
He obviously didn’t know the original part. He was expecting a heavier intensity but the music and vocals breaking down that he is correcting himself mid strike. That control is amazing.
I love that more people are coming to realize how good an improviser Chad is through this. He’s quite humble about his music with the Chili Peppers in another video from Drumeo (“it’s basically the same beat, just faster or slower…”), but he’s an amazing active listener.
They’ve done similar videos with other drummers, but almost all of them actually listen to the track once through, make some notes, at least sort of contemplate what they’re going to try, etc. Chad didn’t wait. He just jumped in the pool and tried to swim… and set a lap record.
La mejor reacción que vi de esta canción. Eres muy bonita le mando u abrazo desde Honduras
if you watch any of the Drumeo videos...most drummers take a first pass to listen to the music and take notes....Chad is actively listening to the parts and knows music enough to know when parts are changing and hitting bridges etc....Chad went straight in...30 seconds of music and he got it down.
Right😂he got the easiest for sure. To be honest tomas lang will play his ass off. Chad just doesn't give a f.
You are the only one that commented on the cowbell! 🤘”It needs more cowbell!” ❤
Chad is an awesome drummer. I love how people are like "how can he do this?" Then I imagine jazz improv guys like "pretty sure this is normal."
I love the groove Chad has when he plays. Super interesting to see
Chad absolutely killed it; This is by far one of my favorite Drumeo videos ever, glad you reacted to it!!
Will Ferrell and Chad Smith did a drum off one of the Late Night shows. Christopher Walken is who you were thinking of. I love your reaction to this!!!!! I wish there were more too, must listen to the whole song a few times or hear drums.
You should check out Larnell Lewis. Jazz fusion drummer who listened to Enter Sandman once and played.
Watching the process between Chad vs Larnell is extremely interesting… you can see how Chad does it by “feeling” the music but Larnell does it more “technically “ following each instrument. Idk Chad is funny as hell, Larnell is extremely humble. Both are legends.
His active listening skills are amazing. I think you were referring to Christopher Walken for the cowbell
This is the reaction I was looking for
Talent, love, passion and pure rock music instinct on display. And a nice guy
I am from Sydney Australia and found this so amazing and cool 😊❤
I love this woman's energy and excited impression of this! I remember I felt the exact same way the first time saw/heard this Chad Smith version too. It felt like an adrenaline rush for me, and I'm a mere listener and fan! Absolutely unfathomable talent!
Fun reaction !
Can't stop watching this lol
Made me TEAR UP as good as it was. ❤️🔥🥁❤️🔥🥁💯 STILL gives me GOOSIES! 😏✌️🫶🔥🔥🔥🔥🎶
thats fuckin TALENT right there
All of the other S tier drummers they have do this listen to their track once through before playing. Not Chad Smith, he's on a whole new level!
You can tell he’s not heard it. They are different beats but also you can see spots where he had to adapt. Cause he went left but the song went right
Enjoyed this reaction, both the understanding of music and your feminine energy.
If there's a Muppets movie released anytime soon, Chad deserves to play the drums for Animal.
Minha juventude no Brasil...🇧🇷❤️👌
It’s funny how many times I’ve seen people compare Will Farrell to Chad Smith when doing these reaction videos
Insane.. god tier drummer
I loved finding out he did the drum track for Dua Lipa...so talented
wow nice 😮 :D
I know nothing about music, i am not a fan of the band he’s playing along to. That being said, he nailed it and been mesmerized on what he did, as have a lot of people. It makes me happy that people who know music are happy to see this as well.
Google Will Ferrill and Chad Smith. They had a fake drumoff on the tonight show.
Yes! It’s great.
It's a lot easier said than done and you may know but pros at this level understand musical theory very, very well. But not every musician has that gift,I play guitar and if you told me the key of a song I'll eventually figure it out but not in 10 seconds like Chad lol. Even on the drums there's certain patterns that go with certain key families. Drums is the absolute hardest instrument to play so when I see a drummer doing it it impresses me that much more
Chad Smith's stock was through the roof before this video.
When you listen to a lot of music and play music you can, a lot of times, tell when the next part or a change are coming. Usually it's queues in the arrangement like the guitar volume swelling, vocal changes and things like that.
Chad actually did a skit with Will Farrell on one of the late night shows. Just lookup Chad and Will Farrell.
don't be surprised , people forgot the definition of experience !!!
@morethanjustavocalcoach - you'll probably really like the other huge drumeo video with the Metadeth drummer playing Mr Brightside :)
Chad is the epitome of 'if you love what you do you'll never work a day in your life'.
Him and Will have had drum offs
They rarely make em like this anymore!
ironically... i think the people further away from this music think its set up, but the poeple closer to it understand its there to achieve and appreciate the nuances... i would also say Im sure he heard this in passing... but he clearly doesnt know it. even the parts he changes that people think are 'perfect' he gives himself space to read the change that he knows will happen
Hey teacher how you doing? Loved your videos reacting to thedooo and now i'm addicted to your channel.
I have a MUST react to you...
He is an awesome one man band, playing and singing a Medley's of the 'hypedest' songs every year.
His channel is Inutilismo, has almost 5M subscribers. And the videos almost 20M watches.
The songs you MUSTTTTTTTTTTT react are 2020 em uma música, 2021 em uma música and 2022 em uma música which are translated from portuguese to, "202x in one only song"
Hope you enjoy cause he is an amazing talent, and we are waiting the new release on December 31.
i mean, will ferell and chad smith already had a drum battle several years ago on the jimmy fallon show that's worth checking out.
He and Will Ferrell actually have showings together and they could be brothers 😆 They even do a drum off on a talk show.
My favorite part is when he realizes "It's in 3" he gets a huge grin on his face.
Will farrel is who youre rhinking of and yes they actually did a skit together. 😅
😍👌🏾
You should watch Domino Santantonio plays Slipknot and Megadeth's drummer Dirk Verbeuren plays Mr. Brightside
Megadeaths drummer has a video like this also
Will Ferrell broke his stick and still sounded amazing. I hope Chad Smith would battle him again.
Every time I hear someone doubting this I think "you're not a musician huh?" I'm a guitar player (nowhere near that level) and I do the same when jamming at home. Listen and adapt.
You need to check out the drummer El Estelario Siberino. Best in the world.
He and Will Farrell did a bit a decade or two ago, worth watching.
Gotta watch the one they did with Megadeths drummer listening to Mr Brightside.
Chad and Will Ferrell have done some bits together…they had a “drum off” on a late night show once that I remember.
I am watching this, knowing the title: Vocal Coach. WTF does that have to do with drumming? I don't care! I love reaction of musicians applauding other musicians... Yes WHY did it have to end!!!
Chads set is way better than original!
Will Ferrell as a drummer adding cow bell to everything... I can see it.
They already had a drum off with him and will Ferrell. Lol
There is a video of will ferrel and chad smith together.. i think on jimmy fallons show.. They have a drum off.. dress up like each other.. 😂😂😂 pretty funny
Watch the will Ferrell chad smith drum off I think from jimmy kimmel live 🤣🤣🤣
this is a pretty standard 8 bars blues in 3/4 time. no time changes, the fills are easy and the changes are telegraphed.
not difficult at all for any drummer with 20+ years playing.
Here’s like for mentioning Danny Carey
Will Ferrell actually did a skit with him for a late night show. Pretty sure it was Fallon’s.
Will Farrell
he had a couple of major quick timing changes he adapted too...he is playing to the vocals, much like RHCP music...plus 30 seconds like most bands is pretty cookie cutter, but still awesome
'He looks like a duck on water' - Forrest Gump
yeah, i mean imagine what he'd be doing if he'd played around with this a few times.
this video kind of sums it up ... doing this for 40 years ... Chad Smith and Flea Drum th-cam.com/video/3tx_iGxk5Mo/w-d-xo.html
He had to have heard this before
Nope. He dove right in and he made like one or two wrong turns and adjust near instantaneously.
There's nothing worse than these reaction videos by people with no talent, trying to ride those with talent. "Blocked channel."
