Chad is the best! When my grandma came here from El Salvador, her and my aunt were his babysitter/ housecleaners for years. They went with the peppers on tour and would always have backstage passes. My grandma and aunt always had the best things to say about him as a person.

This grooves so well. I heard the song here first and then checked out the official version and was disappointed that the live drums are buried under the electronic drums in the mix. As a result, the final mix misses the life that the Chad brings to the track. This version is mixed with the live drums up front and it sounds rad.

i watched RHCP concert in 2000 and i always hear the album part by part as im bass player, and you know what they always improvise never the same but the groove still they have it flea bass improvise, chad drum groove improvise and still have good groove they all legend

During his time Jeff Porcaro was one of the most recorded drummers. He didn't focus on lofty drum fills doing all that work, it was getting the beat, being in the pocket, and sounding cool. Meaning, it's all about the riffs and not stepping on the other instruments. That sound Chad got might be reproducible with what he did on the hi-hat, it's probably really hard to get those opening and closing sounds to match a real drummer, but what he provided other than his unique take on the way the beat should feel like was an artist that didn't have to worry about the whole aspect of paying people to program a drum track and these are people that don't have the feel of creating thousands of beats for many types of music.
The fact that he's singing it just makes me respect him more then I already did this guy is a famous successful awesome drummer yet he keeps the attitude as if hes still in high-school playing in the garage with his friends every time you see him hes smiling and loving life.
also, he keeps it minimal, so that the singer can emerge and his work is to enhance hers. It is kind of a informal rule for drummers, and it's quite easier when it's not a song you are very attached to, but seeing it done by a legend is still something memorable.

What's the point of bringing on another artist if you're not gonna even let their own style shine? It's like asking some random rapper to do a feature and then telling them "I want you to rap like Eminem" lol... At LEAST give him a small drum solo, or fade out where he's going to town...

I love the range Chad shows and his willingness to lay drums down for all kinds of different genres. It just goes to show that true musicians respect music in general, even if its not their personal taste or their inclination to play.
Well, you know they also get points on the song. Regular studio musicians will have a day rate but when Chad Smith shows up, be ready to give him a couple percent of the royalties.
He’ll show up for whatever the hell you want song got 1 billion views. He’s probably made around $50,000 if he’s negotiated one percent of 1 billion played song based on Spotify’s current payout. that’s way better than $1000 per day for high session musician.
