Zero autotune. Gene is a pitch master. :)
As a vocal coach you need to watch River' - My Way, and Stitch - Feels like nothing!!!
And Show-Go
@@IEGOODY I recommend either Jasmine or Silver by Sho-go.
good suggestions @@TalixZen

And D-low little harmony, and Bigman window
The only editing to the audio is basically slight reverb. This is for a competition, so they don't allow for much outside of your actual voice and skills. It's all him!
Yes ! 👍
That’s right
If you can clearly hear it, then it's not "slight".
@@diggie9598 in terms of reverb its slight. Reverb can go way crazier than what he has lol
No throat bass here! It's almost all vocal lip oscillations (aka singing plus lip buzzing at the same time to get two tones). The only exception is the sound at 3:08, which is technically a throat bass but us beatboxers call it "Vibration Bass", because it is a special type of throat bass that is generated by a combinaiton of vocal folds (hum) and false vocal folds (throat bass) simultaneously to create a more harmonically rich, two toned sound.
Well there is actually throat bass 2 times. For a short second when he does the drop, and another time shortly after. But not when she mentioned it
@@thekosk thats vibration
I always thought that vibration bass was a combination of enel bass and throat bass because to achieve it I usually use throat bass (so I hum with my head voice with a bit more pressure to activate the fake folds) and I mix it with vocal fry and a normal hum from the chest as I usually do for the enel bass
@@dbomba Nah, I don't think so. Enel's bass is subharmonic singing. Most beatboxers who learn vibration bass can't do subharmonic singing until they practice it and find the placement to generate the sound, which tells me they don't utilise such placements with their vibration bass.
Remix's vibration bass tutorial does a good job explaining how it's a combination of vocal folds and false vocal folds.
Alright info dump cause I researched this a lot a year ago:
Throat bass is, just like Enel bass or even alien bass, a subharmonic technique. What makes throat bass unique is the use of both the vocal folds and false folds. Where normally both the vocal folds will vibrate at a different pitch to create the subharmonic note, with throat bass this difference in pitch is between the vocal folds and the false folds. This creates a more powerful sounding, but still subharmonic, tone. Vibration bass is simply the second subharmonic in this register. There is no difference in technique for throat bass and vibration bass, except that vibration bass requires a more precise control of the muscles and folds to get the exact pitch difference between the folds to get the subharmonic tone.
Enel bass is regular subharmonic (so only vocal folds) but very constricted, creating an overtone subharmonic (which is weird at first but if you think about it it works).
Alien bass is a third subharmonic (regular), but again with some overtoney stuff created by changing the air pathway which gives it its unique sound.
The more you know!
There’s a lot of tricks beatboxers employ to achieve unnatural sounding pitch jumps in their voice but it’s all vocal and zero auto tune. In this case it’s a combination of a yodeling type voice crack interspersed with short lip oscillations on certain notes. This helps to create the illusion that each note is switching aggressively, due to the tamber shift.
Thank you for this…so funny but after I sent for editing I tried playing with one of the passes and did recognize through a yodel and some gibberish this would definitely be able to happen without autotune (why didn’t I record that, I know 😂) but it also shows what a talented musician he is to keep it so in tune regardless. Love this feedback.

bro that's like 5 or 6 years ago. Beatboxing has changed significantly since the time of that battle. @@BangDoyok-ls3vd
@@morethanjustavocalcoach If I recall correctly, he's a Juliard trained musician. Lots of talent under the hood with this one

Wait until she hears Stitch...
and Show Go
No autotune is acceptable in wildcards (Beatboxers don't need one tho xD) Gene is a master of musicality , he is just that good at his craft .
Beautiful sincere reaction! Wildcards are submissions for competitions, just some minor effects allowed like light reverb. And yes, as the others said: River' - My Way, and Stitch - Feels like nothing :)
please listen to River' - My Way and Stitch - Feels like nothing
I’m a moderator for Gene and he’s done this routine in person without a mic. He’s the real deal🥰
I agree with the comments. There's no pitch correction / autotune in use here. He is jumping from chest voice to head voice (falsetto) and back to get the sharp pitch skips, a technique used in yodeling. And the bass tones are lip buzz combined with his voice, which is a fun technique to know. I'm not sure is I hear any other bass techniques, such as modulating low tones with fry to accomplish lower octaves, but I'm pretty sure he knows how to do that as well. The styles and techniques he's using on this track take ages to learn and aeons to perfect. I don't know who this artist is, but I'll surely listen to more tracks. Very interesting and very impressive.
I hope you dive into the world of beatbox more, it’s my favorite community and the talent is unreal
No autotune, just beatbox tecniques
Can’t beat these legends . Bet hearing this for the first time made you feel like day 1 at school 😂. Gene is one of the best melody inspired beatboxes .
Please react to Den beatbox moments I had - th-cam.com/video/CUe2ymg1RHs/w-d-xo.htmlsi=CGfMIofWAdevqJTT
2:10 she almost made polyphonic voice from the excitement lol
btw this is not throat singing that gene uses here its called lip bass basically he harmonizes his voice with lips oscillation (from blowing out air)
Well there is a bit of vibration bass in there too which is a type of throat bass
It's always amusing watching someone who's an expert in their field discover something directly related to their field that they know nothing about. It's also interesting how separate things like vocal coaching for singing and vocal coaching for beatboxing are, even though everyone who does either is using the same instrument. ;)
Pure vocal. no auto-tune
I love these Bbx reactions keep em comin
i subscribed because you are a genuine personality who captured my attention in an awesome way :)
Gene is one of those OG that's on a different level.
No autotune all natural voice/ sounds... welcome to the world of beatbox
Yeah this is one of my favorites. The Grand Beatbox Battle is the biggest competition in the world and a wildcard is like an audition to get into the competition. which gene did get into with this wildcard haha
Oh shit oner of the best to start. jodeling with his clean sounds and his lip distortions. Genius
River 2023 gbb solo elimination would be right up your alley. He sings and does those cool vocal/beatboxing tricks.
Every world class beat boxer has their own unique skill, sound or signature sound. It's one of the biggest things that helps elevate a pro to the competitive stage. Also Zero autotune for sure on this track.
Can't wait to see more beatboxing reaction ❤❤❤❤
Beatbox evolve so much theys past years, some beatbox sounds evolve and now more musical beatboxer practice like Gene ! Welcome into beatbox world :p
I suggest : Den - Moment i had
Thanks for react
then den (vs inertia) sensation
It’s kind of amazing to me the number of ‘vocal coaches’ and people involved in teaching music in general will have never heard beatboxing before. It’s such an awesome, peak example of using the voice as an instrument. Or several 😂
Thanks so much for checking out Gene! Agree with others suggestion River - My Way and Stitch - Feels Like Nothing
Her expression was everything !!
I have a suggestion. Feels like nothing by Stitch. Ridiculous vocal techniques that will make you shocked. :)
You need to react to Jairo beatbox
definitely yes
Yes!! Was going to say this!!!
Begin by Letting Go is great!
…but also anything they’ve done is top notch :)
You will definitely end up down a rabbit hole with beatbox. As others have suggested:
River - My way
Vocodah - Headbangers
Trung Bao - Venom
D-Low - Kickback Battles
ZVD - American Wildcard 2022
Show-go - Silver
Are all great examples of very different styles
I'm glad you watched that first part 3 times because i was about to rewind the video myself haha this stuff is pretty crazy
As someone who was in the beatbox scene during covid and high school, I can definitely say Gene is just a master of his art, and pretty much in 90% of pro beatboxers videos they won’t be using auto tune
I can recommend:
Codfish - almost everything haha
River - My way or ourselfs
Stitch - Feels like nothing
Sho-go - Jasmine or silver
Dlow - little harmony
Bigman - window ( almost everything as well hahaha )
Pwad - urugayn Beatbox champ
And i could go on and on and on. There is to much out there hahaha
i subbed to this video, please do more beatbox stuff!
Hello Miss and welcome. I've been watching a lot of your reactions and I am glad you are coming across some beatbox. Beatbox community is huge and don't be surprised if they come asking for more. And you are in for some amazing stuff. Just a quick introduction, there is this channel called Swissbeatbox and they started small but eventually grew bigger so more money started coming in. More money = more people = more talents = tougher competition = amazing beatbox. That's basically how it went and in last 4 years beatbox just went nuts. I would recommend anything from River, Den or Codfish as that's very musical.
EDIT: I see people are recommending Stitch, as a vocal coach you might want to hear that :)
Gene is so good! Thank you for this one! Gene's shorts are also really good.
If you like to see more musical beatboxing from another beatboxer I suggest listening to Wing's GBB23 wildcards or any of his other songs (killing me soflty, doppelganger, dancing with a stranger etc) or maybe his shorts
Gene's harmonics are literally proverbial butter to the ears
wtf ... I got goosebumps! This is absolute mastery of the human voice!
Make more beatbox reactions especially those focused on melodic styles😁
i like how he switches between full and hollow sounds
The beatboxing thing is crazy advanced now! I had a young person I know show me some other vids. Its crazy what they are doing with just vocals and a looper petal!
Great reaction. Along with the other recommendations, I suggest Jairo, a beatbox duo, which allows for other kinds of beatbox magic. “Begin by letting go” is a good starting point.
i love when people are introduced to my passion in life. Please watch more maybe Dlow or napom or inertia and maybe some loop station battles.
Only effect allowed is slight reverb. These guys who are at this level are all absolute brilliant artists.
He's getting harmonics with his lips a fifth or octave away from his voice, like doing multiphonics on trumpet or trombone. His last note he sang an A and his lips buzzed the low F, let's go! ❤
youre about to go down a HUUUUGE spiral of beatboxing and enjoy every second 😅
They're not allowed to change the wildcards more than a flat EQ over the whole track (not allowed to EQ sounds individually) and maybe a compressor as far as I'm aware. So there are restrictions in place, they need to be able to perform it live basicly :) Thank you for checking out beatboxing, always fun to see vocal coaches checking it out.
So got to check out show go hes amazing
No autotune at all, he can do it without any mic, just his voice.
No autotune, raw mic input with reverb
You should definitely check out stitch “feels like nothing” and den “twisted fate”
Great vid my first time here keep up the great work ❤
I would like to recommend: Taras Stanin | The Hills (The Weeknd Beatbox Cover). It is a lot more edited than the clip from Gene, but that just shows what one can do with the "raw" audio in post in my opinion.
More beatbox reaction please hehe
😂😂😂😂 cool reaction 😂😂😂😂
If you like this, you're going to LOVE Jairo. I'd suggest their cover of Begin by Letting Go because it's just beautiful, but honestly everything they do as a duo is just phenomenal.
More beatbox reaction pls❤🥺🙏
you must see Bigman - The Window
that so dope and beautiful beatbox
My first introduction to this was a video with Nathan Flutebox Lee and Beardyman performing at Google headquarters. Flutebox takes it to a new level by playing an instrument while beatboxing. I was amazed by that. One of my favorite videos I've ever seen.
D-Low - Sing a Little Harmony
Be careful about beatboxing. It can quickly become a rabbit hole, especially for people who love vocals.
I'll also recommend Feels Like Nothing by Stitch like these comment are, but there are so many worth seeing. Both videos from Gene and Stitch are wildcard entries to a competition, so processing is limited to reverb, EQ, slight compression. Otherwise they're completely natural
Feels like nothing from stitch and youll be mind blown😂😂
You should watch River - solo elimination gbb23
If anyone is curious about how some of the tricks work or would like to see more masters at their craft I'd greatly recommend checking out D-low hes a vocal coach and a world beat box champion. who just has only gotten better in his years. He also has a lot of tutorial videos out there, and in his reviews of other beatboxers its always a treat to see him try and parrot sounds and do it almost perfectly.
She reminds me of Ashley Johnson, both visually, and also the way she talks 😊
you nailed his last name first try lol
There are so many good videos for you to see in this category. JAIRO are becoming a big deal. WING, Taras Stanin , and HISS have some fantastic stuff too.
u so good
you gotta listen to sitich he's amazing. I'd recommend his 2021 wildcard video
There are great suggestions here. Another one that will blow your mind is Den. He can sing and pitch inwardly🤯
You should check out show-go! Silver is one of my personal favorites from him
Gene's wonderful. I would love to hear your reaction to H Has's song Han.
When you love this, you should watch BIGMAN The-Window (beatbox Version)
No auto tune. You can check out Dlow or some other beat boxers, too!
You will love Den from canada. Yes bestowing has changed since we were young!! The song he gearboxes is called Missing you. Enjoy!!!!!!
You should also check out the beatboxer Wing. You wanna hear a master of musicality, he’s one for sure.
As someone that follows people who utilise screams for their music this is what I think is going on;
The throat bass I think he is doing something similar to mongolian throat singing/metal scream vocals where he vibrates the false chords which sit above the true vocal folds. It is thicker and harder to move, but because it's thicker it vibrates at a lower frequency about an octave lower than regular singing vocals. So he is likely aiming for D2 and using throat bass to hit D1 instead.
For other really cool beatboxers check out show-go specifically 'Jasmine' I simply love the musicality he introduces into his beatboxing.
Welcome to the world of beatbox
MORE BEATBOX REACTIONS!
You should check out taras stanin "same" and also some river stuff. Very musical
If you would like some more beatbox to review, might I suggest Taras Stanin's cover of The Weekend's "The Hills". It is a wonderfully thought out and executed composition.
More beatbox and i subscribe 😉
vocodah - inward bass god and headbangers, check this out please
Just watch for MB14 and Robin and you'll see other aspects of beatboxing mixed to total voice control
A guy named flutebox beatboxes while playing the flute, and it's exactly as good as you think it could be!
Please do a beatbox reaction of, Show Go - Silver.
Taras Stanin is doing the rounds at the moment, would recommend a listen if you want to hear beat boxing with sound engineering. This 1 though, because it was gbb comp video, its raw, no effects. Improver and Codfish are another couple to listen to. To be honest, most semi decent beatboxers blow my mind with what they are capable of with their voices.
I'd love to see your reaction to *Silver* by Show-Go.
You should react to River'-My Way
You've only just hit the beatbox rabbit hole, there's people like Lennard, D-Low, SO-SO, NaPoM and many other legends of their style of beatbox
I can’t believe you haven’t reacted to El Estepario Siberiano yet.
You should react to river gbb elimination 2023 it’s his own composition performed live. It’s also slow so you can hear all the details
Your first link in the description should be to the video you're reacting to, IMO. I don't want your vocal coaching after clicking on that link, I want his.
Hi, first of all welcome to the beatboxing world! there's is so much to discover. That being said, I want to let you know there is a playlist on my channel with 250 of my (personal) favorite beatboxing videos. Of course, this barely scratches the surface of all the great beatboxing out there. Feel free to use it as a reference, and happy listening!!
by the way, before he got into beatboxing I believe he used to be a vocal teacher as well or he got a lot of teaching from a vocal teacher, I don't remember but is something about that line
check out SHO-GO and Jairo.
Please listen to Jairo - Begin By Letting Go - you won't regret!
And us beatboxers are just chilling enjoying genes control with his lip oscillations. ;)
I like that it's so slow. That's fucking hard to do.
