    No throat bass here! It's almost all vocal lip oscillations (aka singing plus lip buzzing at the same time to get two tones). The only exception is the sound at 3:08, which is technically a throat bass but us beatboxers call it "Vibration Bass", because it is a special type of throat bass that is generated by a combinaiton of vocal folds (hum) and false vocal folds (throat bass) simultaneously to create a more harmonically rich, two toned sound.

    • @thekosk
      @thekosk 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Well there is actually throat bass 2 times. For a short second when he does the drop, and another time shortly after. But not when she mentioned it

    • @dbomba
      @dbomba 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I always thought that vibration bass was a combination of enel bass and throat bass because to achieve it I usually use throat bass (so I hum with my head voice with a bit more pressure to activate the fake folds) and I mix it with vocal fry and a normal hum from the chest as I usually do for the enel bass

    • @MainIsMain
      @MainIsMain 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      @@dbomba Nah, I don't think so. Enel's bass is subharmonic singing. Most beatboxers who learn vibration bass can't do subharmonic singing until they practice it and find the placement to generate the sound, which tells me they don't utilise such placements with their vibration bass.
      Remix's vibration bass tutorial does a good job explaining how it's a combination of vocal folds and false vocal folds.

    • @gamer_kn1ght6
      @gamer_kn1ght6 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Alright info dump cause I researched this a lot a year ago:
      Throat bass is, just like Enel bass or even alien bass, a subharmonic technique. What makes throat bass unique is the use of both the vocal folds and false folds. Where normally both the vocal folds will vibrate at a different pitch to create the subharmonic note, with throat bass this difference in pitch is between the vocal folds and the false folds. This creates a more powerful sounding, but still subharmonic, tone. Vibration bass is simply the second subharmonic in this register. There is no difference in technique for throat bass and vibration bass, except that vibration bass requires a more precise control of the muscles and folds to get the exact pitch difference between the folds to get the subharmonic tone.
      Enel bass is regular subharmonic (so only vocal folds) but very constricted, creating an overtone subharmonic (which is weird at first but if you think about it it works).
      Alien bass is a third subharmonic (regular), but again with some overtoney stuff created by changing the air pathway which gives it its unique sound.
      The more you know!

  • @streetninja510
    @streetninja510 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +83

    There’s a lot of tricks beatboxers employ to achieve unnatural sounding pitch jumps in their voice but it’s all vocal and zero auto tune. In this case it’s a combination of a yodeling type voice crack interspersed with short lip oscillations on certain notes. This helps to create the illusion that each note is switching aggressively, due to the tamber shift.

    • @morethanjustavocalcoach
      @morethanjustavocalcoach  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +33

      Thank you for this…so funny but after I sent for editing I tried playing with one of the passes and did recognize through a yodel and some gibberish this would definitely be able to happen without autotune (why didn’t I record that, I know 😂) but it also shows what a talented musician he is to keep it so in tune regardless. Love this feedback.

  • @larseikind666

    I agree with the comments. There's no pitch correction / autotune in use here. He is jumping from chest voice to head voice (falsetto) and back to get the sharp pitch skips, a technique used in yodeling. And the bass tones are lip buzz combined with his voice, which is a fun technique to know. I'm not sure is I hear any other bass techniques, such as modulating low tones with fry to accomplish lower octaves, but I'm pretty sure he knows how to do that as well. The styles and techniques he's using on this track take ages to learn and aeons to perfect. I don't know who this artist is, but I'll surely listen to more tracks. Very interesting and very impressive.

    Hello Miss and welcome. I've been watching a lot of your reactions and I am glad you are coming across some beatbox. Beatbox community is huge and don't be surprised if they come asking for more. And you are in for some amazing stuff. Just a quick introduction, there is this channel called Swissbeatbox and they started small but eventually grew bigger so more money started coming in. More money = more people = more talents = tougher competition = amazing beatbox. That's basically how it went and in last 4 years beatbox just went nuts.     As someone that follows people who utilise screams for their music this is what I think is going on;
    The throat bass I think he is doing something similar to mongolian throat singing/metal scream vocals where he vibrates the false chords which sit above the true vocal folds. It is thicker and harder to move, but because it's thicker it vibrates at a lower frequency about an octave lower than regular singing vocals. So he is likely aiming for D2 and using throat bass to hit D1 instead.
    For other really cool beatboxers check out show-go specifically 'Jasmine' I simply love the musicality he introduces into his beatboxing.

    Taras Stanin is doing the rounds at the moment, would recommend a listen if you want to hear beat boxing with sound engineering. This 1 though, because it was gbb comp video, its raw, no effects. Improver and Codfish are another couple to listen to. To be honest, most semi decent beatboxers blow my mind with what they are capable of with their voices.

    Your first link in the description should be to the video you're reacting to, IMO. I don't want your vocal coaching after clicking on that link, I want his.

    Hi, first of all welcome to the beatboxing world! there's is so much to discover. That being said, I want to let you know there is a playlist on my channel with 250 of my (personal) favorite beatboxing videos. Of course, this barely scratches the surface of all the great beatboxing out there. Feel free to use it as a reference, and happy listening!!

    by the way, before he got into beatboxing I believe he used to be a vocal teacher as well or he got a lot of teaching from a vocal teacher, I don't remember but is something about that line
