This is great, some trees and people can make a layout look like a tiny world with little effort! Keep the bases on the trees until your happy with your layout, there's nothing more annoying than drilling holes in the layout only to decide that the trees aren't in the right place and breaking the tree wile trying to get it out then trying to patch the hole in the table and making a mess, trust me...
Nice stuff, for sure, Ray. Scenery is my nemesis, so I usually get my model railroading friends to help out. I think that rubber cement is the best thing to adhere the trees to the layout. It's easy to remove if you don't like how things look, or even down the line, if you want to change things up. Either way, everything is looking good. An excellent video, as always.
Great additions to the layout. as far as the trees go , the best solution we have come up with is to cut the little nubs off the bottom that go into the bases , then drill the trunk out to put a wooden dowel inside about 1/2 " to 3/4" inside , cut the dowel so about an inch or so is exposed out the bottom , then get evergreen styrene tubing just big enough to fit the dowel inside . drill a hole for the styrene tubing into the scenery then the tree can be moved out of the way when needed , it will be super sturdy and can be relocated if needed by putting a new tube somewhere else .
Ray you're inspiring me to get busy and put some people on my layout. Right now it's got just about everything but people, the town looks like a neutron bomb went off! You know, those nukes that vaporize people but leave buildings intact? Now if I'd only stop chasing new engines maybe I could do something! Fun video, thanks for posting!
I use a hot glue gun to glue the tree bases to my platform. They're easy to remove, and if I need to do some work on the platform I pull the trees out of the base, when I'm done just put the trees in the base.
Ask others who have glued the trees and see how easy it will be to move them (you know nothing stays the same for long). Looked like stubs vary in length. If 3/8 or longer and the hole size fits snug, they would look better than the bases. That yellow loader needs your moms detailing. Need water. Pond, falls, creek, etc!!!
Don't make them permanent yet ,I knock mine over some but I just rebuilt my layout and only made some trees permanent because I change my mind allot , hobos look great 👍 u might want to put some dirt sand ot something around hobos I do on some it makes it pop i try to only use woodland products love details on blds and people looking good Ray 👍
you should get yourself some Styrofoam and make small land hill pieces painted different green color's that you could add grass and other small details too as well as adding those trees without a base and because it's Styrofoam there's No need to glue. Making the scenes pop more and aren't perinate. you could even use the small Styrofoam land pieces and add one of the Buildings to a piece giving more contrast to them that one. I only say to use Styrofoam because it's super easy to use making a scene pop better as your layout is very Flat having a Hill or 2 would really brake up area's and make things flow easier
