      I wish we Americans were better at foreign languages and history. It would make the visit more enjoyable. The silk road was a very big factor in creating these far flong cities along it's route. The place looks well kept and the people though not wealthy, rich in culture. Nice video

    It is so exotic, classical, and beautiful. This is probably one of the more interesting trips you've done. I imagine all of the middle East and places like Egypt were this lovely many years ago and not so rough like they are today. I think Ashgabat might be a really interesting city to see not far from where you are.

    This country is amazing indeed- just like those in the 1st century or even earlier....BTW Gabriel did you notice how Indian languages have similarity with the Uzbeks? Samsa - samosa; Masjidi - Masjid (mosque) and many others. In fact Bengalis often call someone who appears dumb- Ujbuk which is derived from Uzbek travelling salesmen who could not understand Bengali language/local language and appeared daft.

    • @mackjeez
      @mackjeez 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Looks can be deceiving. Pretty much everything is new, most of the architecture has been restored and not faithfully, the city has been propped up for a hopeful tourism industry, in fact, Uzbekistan is currently investing purely on tourism but they still have a lot of issues, the workforce is pretty much working on no wages, the average per capita income is $1,238/year or $3.60/day. Even though child slavery is banned, the country has very little control over it and many force older children and adults into slave labor in their cotton fields with an estimated 160,000 slaves. It's also one of the world leaders in human trafficking. The police is pretty much like the old KGB, surveillance, intimidation, attacks are all too common against people that say negative things about the country or its practices.Though as a tourist you're pretty safe, no one would dare steal from you, the consequences will be very severe.

    Carvanserai is carvansaraai and made of two Persian words: CARVAN + SARAAI. Carvan was normally a train of animals, mostly camels carrying goods and passeñgers across long distances. They had to stop and take a rest especially at nights. Therefore houses were built en routes that were called SARAAI meaning house [in Farsi].

    These are fabled cities 'Samarkand & Bukhara' from the golden age of the Islamic- Turkic- Persian civilization I guess before they were famously sacked by the Mongols and they filtered into our lives i.e.the Indian Muslim culture of the sub continent because that is where that drew inspiration from. Mullah Naseer ud din is a Wiley goofy character in the story telling tradition of the caravansaries from this region. This is the land in the imagination of the people of this area.
    I can see that the Uzbecks follow the " make it look good" school of archeology buildings look almost modern.Happy trails

    Hi Gabriel, That presentation of those structures was simply amazing although I think many Americans wouldn't consider a trip to a Muslum country because of the conflict around the world. It's a shame because those prices are so cheap to shop and eat there still there going to need much more attractions in order to get tourists to go there.

      Americans still flock to Egypt and Turkey (pre-covid). The ones who wouldn't consider a trip to a Muslim country are the same ones (typically Southerners and Midwesterners) who don't have passports and never even venture more than 300 miles of their hometowns.

The name of your hotel was Minor Kalon which is also mixture of Arabic and Persian, minor or minar (Arabic) is the minaret and Kalon (Persian) means big so big minaret. Similarly Masjid Kalon, Masjid is Arabic for mosque, which means Big mosque.

    Hi Gabriel, it certainly looks incredible and maybe worth a visit - one small question, is alcohol forbidden there?

      Alcohol isn't forbidden there, it was readily available at all of our meals. Beer, wine, etc. So I guess it isn't too strict of a Muslim country.

    Great video and great country. I am tempted to go! Sorry but had to laugh at 80 vloggers all filming and describing their lunch. Must be the most watched lunch in the world!

    Pretty tour guide 🙂‼️ But I’m a bit confused.....is that a school, mausoleum, marketplace, or all within a short walk?
    Very beautiful area!

      Yes the Madarassa (Islamic education) and Schooling would have been in the same place and bazaars would have been spread out close by. Extremely beautiful.

    It was funny to watch Mikey Chen from strictly dumpling getting on a flight to Uzbekistan. Then going to your channel and seeing you having a chat.

    11:10 what’s with the Tourist Police?

    • @Swampzoid
      @Swampzoid 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In Thailand the Tourist Police are there to help tourist by translating with the official police if a problem arrives. Or help them with legal matters. They aren't there to police the tourist. I'm guessing it's the same in Uzbekistan

    In Iran he is called Mullah Nasreddin. Mullah referring to his wisdom. his jokes are used like proverbs. There are books such as Stories of Mullah Nasreddin that are actually like advice in the form of comi. Thank you for showing us Bukhara.
