tbh arthun was just 'SHinn!!' Stop Shinn! No Shinn! the entire series him and Cagalli crying all the time. Kira should have ended impulse's cockpit first time they met would have been a better series. Yzak would have been a better destiny pilot imo same tier as the other two guys not some random peon from the past

BTW Yes, I've seen Gundam SEED Freedom. It doesn't undo how dirty Shinn was done in the latter half of SEED Destiny, but it's definitely a step forward. I honestly love how it kind of had its cake and ate it too with Shinn. Still kind of an idiot and still ultimately second fiddle to Kira and Athrun, but he was likable again, showed bits of genuine growth after the events of Destiny, and got to shine as a competent pilot against the Black Knight Squad.
Omg, the fact that Athrun Zala's English Actor is also playing Khun Aguero Agnes voice in Tower of Gods as well is awesome he did a great job I totally didn't recognize him and even now listening I can't tell the voice is one and the same. :3

Poor characterization was Destiny's biggest flaw. Take Athrun for example. He should recognize and understand Shinn's anger and pain considering he also lost family to war. But instead they depict him as if the development he went through in the previous series never even happened.
It is a bit like Starwars VI: Return of the Jedi, i think. They know they had something going and did not dare to change it too much. More or less retelling the story with a few more bells and whistles and a few more ornaments hung to it. It has its high points, but overall SEED will remain the big breakthrough and as aged as it is - surpassing it is kinda hard, even with all the increased quality on drawing. Another deathstar and over and over again. Stargazer had good potential i think. Even Astray. They should have continued there in my opinion. Not that i complain too much, i quite enjoyed it, but it is kinda a SEED rerun. I liked the inclusion of Yzak and Deaka for what it was, as short as their intermezzo was in this series. The meteorit fight scene was kinda epic if really short. A bit like the A-wing crashing in the superstardestroyers bridge. "We can do a better version". Yeah, sure, but don't retell the same story again.

Besides what sense does it make to blame the Attuha's for his family death its not like he was the only one know what its like that why I didn't like what Shinn said to Cagalli in early episode b4 J7 drop.

Though it kinda sucks that he invalidated the things Shinn did. I mean, he DID save those people. But that doesn't really warrant killing the soldiers in that base. In that moment, Shinn became a destroyer, exactly what Athrun said. I agree with Lunamaria, Shinn is indeed childish. Always saying 'I get it' but doesn't really act like it. Even after this, Shinn forgot what Athrun said and killed the one that helped him that fateful day when his family died.
You missed the entire point of his speech to Shinn like others have commented. Athrun tried to save him here. Shinn could’ve had the best character development from this scene to the end. But instead he refuses to take advice out of his personal reasons(which are valid). Here he fails to realize what he is doing is causing the same pain he felt losing his family to others. All because he thinks he is right and anyone dare telling him otherwise gets triggered.
That could’ve been done, if there weren’t some additions and removals of certain scenes. Plus, even if they had the budget to commission Ocean again, a couple of actors who were in the Ocean dub aren’t very active anymore.
One thing I always wonder is why people argue about Shinn facing against Kira and Athrun. These three characters are always argued for than any other gundam pilots I’ve seen.
Shinn just needed the right mentor as seen with seed freedom which makes the final flight with him in Athrun so hard , especially the extended version turn the special episode plus. Now I love the ocean dubbed to pieces I'm not saying you have to like it but I wish people didn't constantly use it to weaponize hating the new dub
it doesn't help that the new dub we're literally done in just a few months for an entire Seed duology, coupled that it was also done at Sunrise's request, we get another Gundam 0079 trilogy english dubs fiasco on our hands, only this time they didn't pretend it wasn't exist
You are partially right. Athrun was voiced by Samuel Vincent, who voiced Double D. Ed was voiced by Matt Hill, who voiced Kira in Seed and Seed Destiny. Shinn was voiced by Matthew Erickson
The series has quite some highlights and this is, in my opinion, the most remarkable one. This is not the usual cool talk you get served in movies these days, which is in itself remarkable enough. Ingenious. But in an anime??? That is a level of sophistication in the dialogue most hollywood movies do not even get close to.
In the end, shinn asuka ends up completely,arrogantly,stupidly forgetting everything athrun has told him in this scene. So he is ultimately a goddamn idiot. And not just a goddamn idiot, but even worse, a crazy one. I have seen and read crazy heroes and I have seen and read idiot heroes but I don't know if I've ever had the misfortune of seeing and/or reading a crazy idiot for hero.
