Thought about getting a Ram with this motor. Can't do it. Plastic oil cooler, engine starts dry due to placement of the oil filter and rocker issues between 75k-125k. Not playing that game.

@@joeb2588 LOL. The cooler and rocker arms have been revised. No more problems

@tedlulis973 not too sure about that. Esp the cooler. I didn't see when they revised that piece I k ow there's an after market aluminum one, but I'm not playing around waiting for parts to let go just to be replaced with after market parts. I'll look into that again. Thanks for the info.

I had a 2012 Grand Cherokee with the 3.6 Pentastar that ended up having an issue with the lifters that was costly to repair. Apparently it had been a known issue with Pentastar engines for some time, though i don't know if they've taken any steps to rectify that since then.
I had them do the spark plugs while they were in there since it's such a pita to do the plugs on this engine. At least on the 4x4 configuration, apparently it's easier to work on when it's in a fwd vehicle because the engine is turned sideways in the 4x4.
Aside from the lifter issue the engine worked well for 13 years for me until i traded it in. I wouldn't recommend a 4x4 with a Pentastar V6 for anyone interested in doing their own maintenance because aside from oil changes pretty much everything is a pain in the butt to do.

That lifter issue is the only thing keeping me from pulling the trigger on a Wrangler. FCA has done nothing to rectify the issue in newer models.

@@markwilliams6378 there are plenty of 2015+ in the shop for rocker arm issues. From my understanding they still use the same lousy rocker arms.

improper Air Filter housing installation has been a Primary cause for Oil Consumption issues with the GM 3.6L Engines. which often leads to the destruction of the engine. it was necessary for GM to Design the air filter housing that way. Jeep is a brand made by GM

Jeep has nothing to do with GM last time they used any engine form GM was in the AMC days. Some GM 3.6 engines have problems with the PCV system freezing in cold climates causing rear main seals to pop out which then causes the engine oil to pump out of the engine a known defect but this engine can be reliable if properly maintained most people don’t understand how important it is to service any modern car. I own a 13 pentastar its maintained properly still runs like the day i bought it.
