As with everything, people's taste will vary. But Kansas City is always in the conversation when "world's best bbq" is being debated. As a native, I'm proud to have your endorsement
Moved to KC back in the mid-90s and the City has only improved over the years. It is surprisingly modern for a Mid-west city and has been able to keep much of its city core generally active and clean. There are many aspects that do make it a fun place to live and there a lots of things to do, Museums, Markets, Sports, Zoo, and obviously the Bar-B-Que. Yes, it is hard to say who has the best ribs, or the best brisket, chicken, etc. but I would be remiss if I did not quote the late Anthony Bourdain, renowned chef and traveling foodie, who said, "Texas might be better at beef, North Carolina at pork, or Kentucky at chicken, but Kansas City is great at ALL Bar-B-Que." Also, even the burnt ends are outstanding... nobody does it better than KC. Oh, and Go Chiefs !
I recall a day in KC, years ago, being at 100 degrees and over 90% humidity. It's like your skin, your whole body, is suffocating under the hot pressure of it.
Glad you had a nice time in KC! Jack Stack is great, don’t get me wrong. But I’m from KC, and being from KC means knowing that the best barbecue in the world is found at a gas station on County line Road. So next time you gotta hit up Joe’s!
Oh, yeah. Dunk those fries in bbq sauce. It's the only way I'll eat them. OK, here is a totally aside comment, but I LOVE that you don't criticize Americans for not being as chic as the French, or rag us about the huge food portions, or the fact that some of us (*ahem*) need to lose weight. You are an excellent traveler and your appreciation for things outside your usual realm is really appealing. Thank you.
I hope you had a great time in my hometown. Yeah, the summers are hot, the winters are cold. Fall and spring are the best times to visit. We love visitors!
Yes we do. We are very proud of our City right? No place like home. Love to travel but can't wait to come home. KANSAS CITY GREATEST PLACE ON EARTH❤ AT LEAST TO ME
Kansas City is known as "the Paris of the Plains" because of all the French-made fountains, art, music and culture. It really is one of my favorite cities in the U.S. St. Louis, Chicago, Denver, Savannah, Austin, Indianapolis, Boston (sorry your restaurant experience was so bad), New Orleans, Philadelphia and New York City being the others.
@@thseed7 I have always loved our fountains around the city, we also have a couple outside city limits. We turn all of them red during football season and blue during baseball season to celebrate our teams! During the winter we can go see all the lights at Crown Center and go ice skating. The city of fountains 😉❤️
I visited KC six years ago and ate there also. Best BBQ and brisket I’ve ever had. Then I took in a ballgame at Kauffman Stadium in 94° heat without a cloud in the sky 😮 and you’re so right about feeling like passing out. The heat with humidity does exactly that. Glad you’re enjoying the U.S. 😊
I live in the Kansas City area and it's always nice to see it through the eyes of someone new! There is SO much more to the area but you definitely got things started the right way. Jack's Stack is one of my favorites and the City Market is always great. I love that area with all of the antique stores. Haven't been there in a while and a trip is long overdue! Also, thanks for the remarks about the streetcar! I have never had the need to use it so it's good to know that it is presenting the city to visitors in a nice, positive way! This is the first video of yours that I've been recommended, probably because of the KC content but I really liked it! New subscriber here!
KANSAS CITY is best in Fall or early Spring , to get away from the heat and humidity . And the Country Club Plaza with all the buildings with the Christmas lights is very nice .
I'm from western Kansas, so I've been to KC quite a few times. I love that city. I'm glad it was only 88 degrees lol. I've spent many days there in the summer where it was 100+. Great choice with Jack's as they are one of the best BBQ places in town. Joe's and Q39 are also awesome. I hope you got some KC burnt ends at some point.
I'm sure she knows this, but many Europeans don't realize that most of the US is at a similar latitude of North Africa and many of our largest cities can only exist because of air conditioning.
I love KC. You went to two of my favorite places. The museum and the market are both great places. You're so close. I really hope to see you in Branson.
We had rain and as of September 23rd, it is 60 degrees. That is midwest weather. Jack Stack is one of my favorite BBQ places. My favorite restaurant in the City Market is 'Nguyen Pho and Grill.'

There are lots of places to get BBQ in town and everyone has a favorite. I am partial to Gates. Glad you liked the city and the experiences.
No region of Europe has sustained hot and humid weather. Europeans don't necessarily think of the US as a hot climate (unless they are heading to like Florida... ) but even the Midwest can be quite sultry.
@@ryanjacobson2508 Yes, I know, I lived in England for 3 years and traveled to southern France and Italy fairly often. I loved your video of Kansas City Marie. Yes it's a brutal heat. You definitely have to keep drinking water when you're in that kind of environment. When you don't feel like you're thirsty anymore and you start to feel a little bit like you're catching some sort of flu, that's when you have to start drinking even more water. The first time I got heat exhaustion when I was 12 years old and it's brutal. Thank God for air conditioning, refrigeration, add ice machines. Just think 100 years ago people didn't have those conveniences. I love the art museum very beautiful. I always appreciate when you visit the museums. Kansas City really know how to do barbecue. What so does Texas and South Carolina. There is definitely a rivalry and point of contention between those regions. I love them all. They all know how to do barbecue Justice. Keep up the good work Marie and God bless you and the fine people of Kansas City and Texas.❤
I'm a lifelong KC resident. My daughter now lives in Austin. I've had really great BBQ in both KC and Texas. I've also had some not so great BBQ in both states, but I never knew how terrible BBQ could be until I had some in Oklahoma. :)
The heat and humidity can get pretty nasty here in KC! Glad you went to the Nelson! The WWI Museum and Memorial is also a must! Hope you visit us again! Looking forward to the next KC video.
We’re happy you got to see our amazing city!! Jackstack BBQ is good but there is definitely much better BBQ! Joe’s KC & Q39 are two of the best! There’s also tons of great Pizza places here!
Kansas City was founded as a trading post by the French family, the Chouteaus in the 1800's. The oldest part of the city is the Westport area and they traded with the Native Americans who lived in the area.
The best bar b que is claimed by many states, cities, towns, tailgateers (read like pioneers) and backyard master chefs across the country. And everybody is right. 🇺🇸🇫🇷🥩🥔🥗🍕🚢🥵🥵🥵
Since you're not used to the heat, please make sure you stay hydrated. It really helps more than you might think. There's a reason so many of us wander around with a glass/cup/bottle so often. Ice water is your friend.
Hope you have been feeling at home here in Missouri, as we have a TON of French and German heritage in both STL and KC. And indeed all through out the states. Our wineries are even (maybe a bit overstated though) compared to the French wine countries as well as several of our vine lineages come from France and Germany. Also that heat is worse because of the humidity. Makes 95° feel like 105°.

Kansas Citian here! Wanted to thank you for visiting and saying such great things! (I know it's silly, but liked how you said "88 degrees" instead of using Celsius like I expected)
KC BBQ is awesome and I'm so glad you enjoyed it. Potato salad? Absolutely one of my favorites. It was obvious from your face you were overheating. As others have said, humidity makes the heat index really bad because our bodies need to sweat enough to overcome the humidity to cool our core down. Drink a lot of cold water (so your body can sweat to cool down), don't wear a hat (unless it's very "vented" like a straw hat), keep your hair tied back, tank-top shirt, and loose-fitting lightweight shorts, and don't walk around in the sun. Finally, the sun "bakes" the ground so it was probably radiating 95+ degrees upward.
My favorite exhibit at The Nelso-Atkins Museum is still the Lion statues. The artist that carved them had never even seen a picture of a lion. So they carved it purely from other people's descriptions of them. I've heard from staff that it is quite common for visitors to have an inexplicable urge to press their palm onto the lion's rib cages. While I've never done it, I totally understand. It's just something about the carving itself. A couple of years ago, I got a nice surprise at the museum when I rounded a corner, and we had acquired a Degas Dancer sculpture. So beautiful. I'm thrilled you enjoyed your time here in the city. If you ever come again maybe you can attend a sports game or visit the WW1, Jazz, and Negro League Baseball museums. They are all completely worth the time to check out. We also have a lot of killer authentic mexican restaurants around town. We even have a James Beard winner, Yoli Tortilleria. Their tortilla process is super cool.
I haven't been in a long time, but they had this really awesome Buddhist area that was getting reworked last I visited. Not sure if it's still there or not.
Lifelong Kansan here, 88 degrees in June is a nice day in Kansas City. Most days in the summer are at least in the mid 90s. Why do you think the city has so many fountains and Oceans of Fun? If you live here you get used to it.
Good thing you were in Tennessee earlier in the year. East TN in June-August you can expect 100F, 70% humidity and no wind because the mountains block it all lol. If you're not used to it that can definitely be tough.
There are as many slightly different types of barbeque, each has its own strengths. But, that just means there are a lot of places to get unique tastes.
Love KC! Great people, great place. Crazy weather! 88 doesn't sound too hot to most, but when the dew point is in the 80's as well, it is very hard to take.
I live in Kansas but I'm 15 minutes from downtown Kansas City Kansas and all I have to say is we have such a beautiful city and it's such a pleasure to have you in it
Glad you enjoyed your time in our city! Definitely come back later in the fall or spring when the heat and humidity is much less overbearing. There are many more great BBQ places to try!
My first thought was doubting you really found the best BBQ in the USA. There is so much good BBQ in this country! But then I saw you were in Kansas City and thought..."I'll allow it".
Great video. I am so happy you were able to experience good brisket and ribs. If you thought it was hot at 88F. then you will have a hard time in Texas where we have temperatures upward of 100F. Thank you very much for sharing your adventures. Stay safe and as always, have fun. 🤠
I've always heard such good things about Kansas City BBQ. It is definitely on my bucket list for sure. Also, with the heat you had to endure that day, you must be thankful now that fall has arrived! 🍂 Bon weekend! 🍻🌞✈️🌎🇺🇸
When you visit KC, these are the places I would list as "don't miss" - S L.A.P. in KC Kansas Jack Stack Q 39 There are a bunch that are very good (L.C's, Lawnside, Gates, Arthur Bryant)
Should you come back, make it in the Spring or Autumn. One of the things you missed is, Kansas City is called The City of Fountains. Kansas City has over 200 active fountains. Many of them are quite beautiful.
Welcome back, Marie. Now you understand the saying, "It's not the heat, it's the humidity." I know if the sweat is dripping off my nose, or running into my eyes before I start the lawn mower, I'm not cutting the grass right now. Anyway, I haven't had this near of a miss since your day trip to Hermann. Jazz/Baseball, Arabia, WWI museums. Union Station. Swope Park. Starlight Theater. Bar-B-Que, BBQ, barbecue. Even, as much as pains me to say, the Kansas side has some great stuff. Only one of which is also barbeque. While there might be a Ford plant in KC, they don't do the Mustang, and they don't give away samples. I know, I've tried. Enjoy.
As a MO permanent resident, I'd recommend early spring or late fall to avoid the heat. It gets really hot and really cold here. When the AC breaks, it feels like an oven just to stay inside.
"Hey" from west central Florida. Enjoy the heck outta ya video. I'm originally from the midwest, Iowa, and think that perhaps the heat in Kansas City, MO. got to ya cause the humidity feels more drastic cause of the lack of air flow and large bodies of water. At least that is what effected me in my birth-state which is just north of Missouri. In Florida, we certainly get very hot but I think the winds from three directions, Gulf of Mexico, Florida Straits and Atlantic Ocean, combined with the cooling effects of those bodies of water make it feel cooler. Dunno, just guessing and glad ya had a great time. Enjoy and be safe. :)
Ive found that midwesterners have been the nicest people I have ever met. People in Kansas City seemed so friendly. ❣️❣️❣️

Lifelong Kansan here, 88 degrees in June is a nice day in Kansas City. Most days in the summer are at least in the mid 90s. Why do you think the city has so many fountains and Oceans of Fun? If you live here you get used to it.
OMG! Jacks Stack....good choice. the best still comes from the smoker trailers you find in parking lots in the summer...
Plus if you are walking in Kansas City there is a good chance you are walking up a hill. It's not western Kansas.
Glad you enjoy Missouri from a resident.
And Mustangs!
So glad you enjoyed our City and definitely our BBQ.
My first thought was doubting you really found the best BBQ in the USA. There is so much good BBQ in this country! But then I saw you were in Kansas City and thought..."I'll allow it".
Midwest baby! Its called flyover country but has the best people overall.
Great video. I am so happy you were able to experience good brisket and ribs. If you thought it was hot at 88F. then you will have a hard time in Texas where we have temperatures upward of 100F. Thank you very much for sharing your adventures. Stay safe and as always, have fun. 🤠
The heat index was probably over 100 though. I live in Missouri and the humidity is absolutely unbearable.
I'm from Kansas! So glad to see yo enjoyed it!
Jack Stack was a great choice! Glad you enjoyed your food in my city!
I've always heard such good things about Kansas City BBQ. It is definitely on my bucket list for sure. Also, with the heat you had to endure that day, you must be thankful now that fall has arrived! 🍂 Bon weekend! 🍻🌞✈️🌎🇺🇸
When you visit KC, these are the places I would list as "don't miss" -
S L.A.P. in KC Kansas
Jack Stack
Q 39
There are a bunch that are very good (L.C's, Lawnside, Gates, Arthur Bryant)
I also love potato salad, but obviously I consider the recipe I learned from my Grandma the best lol
Enjoy.
Come back to Minnesota in January. You'll look back fondly on the Kansas City warmth.
As a MO permanent resident, I'd recommend early spring or late fall to avoid the heat. It gets really hot and really cold here. When the AC breaks, it feels like an oven just to stay inside.
Jack stack is good but joes is good as well
Jack Stack doesn’t make my top 10. Joes is definitely better.
Tres Bien Marie!!😊👍
Yes! The History of BBQ is so very interesting. Everyone thinks they have good BBQ but it really was perfected in KC.
There's a natural history museum too. It's neat.
Im a Kansas City native and so glad you enjoyed our beautiful city, but our humidity in the summer can be stifling!🥵
