[TAS] SM64 - Shindou 0 Star (DDD Skip BLJless)

The current Shindou any% TAS • [TAS] Super Mario 64 "... collects 1 star since it does not skip DDD. While it was known 0 star would be slower than 1 star, it was still unclear how a 0 star method would work, as there was no clear HSWK setup to get enough speed to clear DDD without bonking. This strategy lets you skip DDD with 0 stars, and therefore beat Shindou edition with 0 stars.
This method first gets into the centre of the 30 star door by conserving sliding speed from forwards into backwards hspd using water. If you jump out of water with between 15 and 16 hspd, you can conserve and re-activate stored sliding speed.
Inside the 30 star door there is a roughly 2 unit wide stable region where mario can HSWK. Inputlua was not sufficient for TASing this, so I automated it with a python script using WAFEL. This HSWK setup lets me build enough hspd to clear DDD while being low enough to not bonk on the ceiling. - เกม
When you realize Mario bypasses the DDD load only by 0.007 units

The fact is : for us to know that this technique is possible, someone must have done first frame kicks accidentally.

@@SaplingDatree I mean, the PU movement might not be completely optimal, and maybe you could navigate to a place where you can build speed faster, but for 1 key the only way to get PU speed on castle grounds without BLJing is HSWing, which basically eliminates any chance for a quick run. Other methods either can't give us PU speed, or even if it was possible to use on castle grounds it would build speed slower anyway.

Heavily underrated! When we will have a 0 star BLJless TAS (which is probably slower than 1 star BLJless, but still, we need 0 star).

Very cool! Was this previously impossible because you need >400 speed which requires a specific spacing of the opposing walls to only hit them on the fourth QF so you don't go through?
As far as I'm aware the small gap between the inside and outside walls where the door ceiling is stops you, and any attempt to bypass it results in an unreferenced wall bonk. I didn't investigate it much, I just took mk's word on it.

Jesus christ first frame wall kicks are so OP. The craziest I've seen someone using firsties is Pluto when she did 8 firsties in a row in a level in i thiiink Treasure World: Dream Edition.
not that insane on its own (tho obviously TWDE is a pretty insane hack as a whole). there are some romhacks for firsty training with leaderboards and there's a video of 26 firsties being done in a row in one of them, which the description says is just third place on the leaderboard (which I couldn't find).

is it not possible to build even more speed via pause hswk in the first section so that the second hswk speed building becomes obsolete ?
no. you cant get much more hspd at that spot before bonking. realistically you can only conserve around 370-380hspd directly out of the water (and you'd lose a lot getting back to the ddd corridor), but the ddd entrance is 378 units wide.

Finally they can shut up, it’s not faster
It was never about the speed, it was about this being cool. There was just something really unsatisfying about moat skip being possible with hours of hyperspeed walking, but 1 teeny little star was still "required" to be collected. It's not the fastest any% but it is the minimum%, and there's just something really cool about minimizing the usage of something that's normally required... makes me think of a certain button challenge.
