  • Chàrn a' Chlamain - 963m (3,159ft)
An ascent of Chàrn a' Chlamain starting from the Old Bridge of Tilt Car Park.
The walk to the start of the ascent is long but not too arduous. Nearly 8km of mostly well gravelled road. There's stunning views along this section too, this definitely keeps the mind wandering. A push-bike could certainly be used to get you to the path up the mountain if someone was so inclined.
The walk along the road is fairly straight forward with only minor navigation required. Once you have crossed the small(ish) wooden bridge, the ascent starts.
Initially it can be a steep slog but it soon levels off and then there's a much more gentle ascent of the mountain. If you really wanted to, you can follow a quad track to almost the top of the mountain but there are various "straight" cuts, off the road that make the ascent a little less boring if shorter. The summit is fairly small and the wind was howling on our hike so we descended back down 20m or so. Amazingly, this put is very well into the shelter of the hill. We managed to sit here and have lunch. I wrapped Luna up in my emergency blanket as she was shivering quite heavily at this point. With her having no real fat and having short hair instead of fur, she was very susceptible to the cold when stationary.
Fed and watered, I decided to make a fast descent to get out of the wind and snow. We managed to do this without much hassle and just a little navigation correction due to the weather. Once down out the clouds, we then encountered the next weather problem. Rain and snow! A quick change of the outer layers and we were off again.
Once descended and back at the wooden bridge. We had a short break and then made the last long push for the finish. the weather cleared up slightly as we finished but it was long and tiring nonetheless.
I actually really enjoyed this walk and would recommend as I said before, using a push-bike if the long walk in and out was just a little too much.

Must admit I cycled in and it cuts down about two hours off the walk! 😀😀😀. A fair old jaunt on foot but looked like you and Luna thoroughly enjoyed it. As I was watching I thought you were going to get a clear top! Looked freezing at the top! Good wee video and well done on that massive walk! Paul

Hi mate, Luna is 2.5. She's only started doing the really long walks as she's fully grown now. Thanks for watching. ATB.
