Just had this happen to me. RX 6600 XT 5600x. Went into the realm between realms and performance tanked to 3 to 5 fps. Took it a minute to recover and shot back up to 60 fps then 144. Quality fsr with frame gen at 1080p ultra.
I was kinda stoked how well my 3080 12gb was running at the first few levels of this game. Mainly the snowly levels. But, once got to the swap area. I started to hit 95 to 120fps. At 1440p. Something to note that Nvidia Reflex does not get enabled by default when using DLSS FG for some reason. Something that in other games gets enabled (and unable to turn off) as per Nvidia's spec of running FG in game. iirc this was listed simply as "Boost" prior to the current update. Hi Daniel, do you notice any slow-loading textures upon entering a new area through a mystic gateway? It's pretty minor on my end but it's noticeable. Only happens when I use the mystic gateway and minor pop-in can also be seen in the 'realm between realms' as I'm waiting for the new area to load. I've also been noticing quite a bit of texture pop-in in games like Robocop and Spider-Man Remastered. I'm still on a 5800X3D so I'm wondering if this happens on a faster CPU like the 7800X3D and if so, is it less apparent? Or is this something that can only be fixed by DirectStorage or RTX IO?

I feel that the technology from AMD is getting better and better for gaming, especially in non-dxr performance. And I feel that for friends who want to have a graphics card that has good performance at 1080p the answer is the rx 6600, because it has enough vram for games at this time and the price to performance is quite attractive.
Apparently, tessellation can be taxing when it comes to trees (hello red dead redemption 2), so no wonder why it behaves like that in the area with a huge tree
I guess you may be interested to test FSR 3 fg implementation in remnant 2. It somehow worse than DLSSFG mod and you cannot enable nvidia reflex with it enabled but you can with mod
When I first went into the realm between realms I was getting 70fps, but after patch 2, its hovering over 90-95fps. Still not like other areas where I get a locked 117fps.
I noticed missing audio too, the intruder alarm doesn't play and the guy with the instrument doesn't make any sound except for his dialogue, such a bummer to have to wait for these things to be fixed
i also came across this FG issue in like a dragon gaiden: the man who erased his name, DLSS FG adds maybe 10 fps if any at all but AMD FG works perfectly fine
well .. i play at medium preset but with ultra textures so no noticeable difference at all with the framerate don't care that much about the other visuals like lighting specially during combat just finished svartalfheim btw, 1440p FSR 3.1 quality scaling, no FG
Not related to this, but what resolution would I actually be at having a game {in this case MW3} running at 1080p native {monitor is 1080p}, using resolution scaling to upscale to 1440p, and then having Nvidia Image Scaling active?
Surround sound doesnt work properly either, game only allows you to select 2ch stereo, and sound is very messy if you play it with dolby atmos or 5.1/7.1 enabled in windows.
I really hope somebody does a PS5 vs. PC settings comparison because the 4060 needing 960p (i.e. 1440p DLSS quality mode) and medium settings to hit a consistent 60 seems strange when the PS5 (which is usually roughly equivalent to a 4060) is running at *native* 1440p (or above) and 60 fps in performance mode.
also when using dlss fg you cant turn reflex on (after you put it on close the settings than go back to settings and it automaticly put it back to off)
Better to leave Tesselation and Models to Medium (PS5 level I assume). Those settings have to be bugged. One in the lands between and the other in Svartalfheim. Shadows on low is also a huge performance save but the image quality suffers too much.
DLSS Frame Generation seems to be working alright for me, on an RTX 4070 Super. Though, I had to manually enable the Latency Reduction, Nvidia Reflex. Maybe Nvidia FG requires it? Edit: forget it lol, can't even enable reflex with Nvidia FG, and fps doesn't go up. Also, the realm between realms is totally fucked up, had to turn shadows down to high aswell.
had no problems with the performance at all been playing on a 6800xt 1440p ultra native with FSR frame gen I have played through half of the game already the lowest fps I saw were 120
Same for me, the only isue i got is when play as atreus there is weird noice like a wistle, I think it's Ingrid's voice, but Ingrid isn't in the story, I think it's more of a game bug than a GPU problem.
Thanks, i was wondering what the deal was with performance in the Yggdrasil loading area as well as Sindri's house. I'll check tesselation next time i play. I have my fps locked to 100 to save my pc toasting my room ha
I've been playing this on the RX 7800xt, and I experienced no issues at all. Locked 120FPS at all times at 1440p Ultra. I've been enjoying this game so much.
@@teddyholiday8038 To be fair in this can you can gleam some useful info from his post, his using a 16GB AMD card, so performance problems might be VRAM or Nvidia related.
I played this on my gtx 1660 super. Game was great and my Graphic card held its own provided 60 fps smoothly. Finished the game 2 days ago, felt good. Sadly my brave graphic card is no more.RIP to the legend
Graphics programmer here: tessellation and geometry shaders are notoriously slow on most hardware. They're really handy for doing all kinds of stuff but they just don't run well compared to your plain old vertex/fragment shader pipeline that does not employ tessellation/geometry shaders. It's been this way since they were introduced and I thought that after a few GPU generations they'd get the performance up on them. Instead, Nvidia went after raytracing and now that's the thing that's going on in lieu of geometry/tessellation shader performance being improved. I am surprised that a legitimate AAA game even utilized them when they perform so poorly on pretty much all of the hardware that's out there.
I have the rx6800 too. Works Fine on 4K OLED TV. In the Snow area on Ultra Graphics with TAA Native I’ve got 60-70fps. But in the area After this i only got 40-50fps. I put my settings on high + fsr 3.1 quality Mode and Frame Generation on. So I have between 85-110fps I am enjoying it much more to Play Games like this on a Big OLED with big Stereo Boxes than on a WQHD Monitor with shitty colours. Sorry for Bad englisch ❤
Some of Sony's pc ports limit vram usage to 6.5 ish on 8gb card which sucks because I'd get 60 all day when I start but 10 minutes later i get 30 which im fine with but it stutters up and down.
I still have what I believe is shader compilation performance issues. When in new areas performance will tank and if I close the game and open again it's fine. Also game is doing shader compilation every time I restart the pc. Rx6600, ryzen 5500, 48gb ram
Probably a specific game engine bug. For example, in Kena: Bridge of Spirits "Ultra" post-processing setting crushes GPU performance in some areas. But "High" works perfectly fine. And there is no significant difference between "Ultra" and "High", besides tremendous hit to performance.
@@stangamer1151 Interesting, surprised it was not caught during testing since they obviously run through the game with all settings. The difference between high and ultra on performance should have been noticed.

You and Vex are like the main TH-camrs that I still watch for tech news. You 2 are the main dudes i go to for "no nonsense tech news". I'll still watch gamers nexus, and jayztwocents for hardware reviews more or less... I can't bring myself to watch LTT after what happened to that poor woman that worked there. I literally cannot stand the click bait of this industry. It's so bad because hardware only comes out every so often... So the channels that cover this stuff just lie... And waste your time for views. I can't stand it anymore lol. I can't watch it anymore. It's the worst space "as far as click bait goes". Tech click bait is just as bad as celebrity gossip click bait. I'll still watch Austin Evans but that falls more under "tech entertainment" in my opinion.
Lots of color, lots of vegatation, small mounds tanks the performance in svartalfheim. Same happened with me the drop was kind of insane from 100fps to 50.
@@mxgamerprov3767 Lighting by far when good enough but as far as geometry goes you have a fair point, foliage can be expensive but in todays engines with rtgi, rt reflections and shadows there is nothing more demanding than that. I'm getting GPU usage as low as 60% on my 4070, despite my 3600x only using 32%. So I don't see a bottleneck, especially as this game is reportedly light on CPU. So I have no idea what's wrong.
your cpu doesn't need to be at 100% to bottleneck. i just watched various benchmarks of the 3700x at this game in combination with a 3090, 3060 Ti and a RX 6600. they all were at 70-80 fps and the gpu load was far away from 100%. in addition to that i have a 3080 which is quite similar to a 4070. my GPU is always at 99 %. so i assume your 3600X is bottlenecking.
@wanshurst2416 Installed patch 1.2. Sat at 50% gpu usage. Turned on Dlss and frame generation, and it shot up to 100% usage. 150fps avg. Not sure what's going on honestly.
@@davidhiggins2804 This is the only game I've had problems in. I think its down to the game not the hardware. Even the devs only recommend a 2600x or 3700x for the settings I'm playing at.
@chunkylover48 to be honest in general, that cpu would be holding that gpu back. I have a 7900xt and had a 3600 before, and I was bottlenecked by about 30-40 percent . You would be leaving a good amount of performance on the table .
It took a maths teacher to figure something was off with the tessellation by messing around with a few settings, some console gamers are delusional but some PC gamers surely are dense. To isolate whether the VRAM is spilling over to system RAM why not set textures to low and jack up the rest of the settings to high or ultra? Perhaps test the same area with the 3060 again or with the 4060Ti 8GB and 16GB cards.
Some users on yesterday's video already pointed out to shadows and tessellation as culprits. Daniel didnt discover anything unknown, he reported to a wider audience.
@@niebuhr6197 There were also some users baffled by their poor performance, anyways I've done some digging around and AMD cards weren't affected by the tessellation issue, you can head over to gamegpu, on their first GoW Ragnarok bench test, they've tested Svartalfheim and Yggdrasil, not sure if the patch fixed it for Nvidia or if the bug is in the Nvidia drivers. In their second bench test after the patch they only tested Svartalfheim unfortunately.
A game having frame drops, missing DLSS FG, camera lock on problem, memory leak and these reviewers still are not capable of calling it "Unoptimized" . This game has the same problems which were there with HFW and it was stutterfest. Also the early 2 hours of the game being optimized while later hours being stutterfest looks engineered scam.
It's fixed now
i also came across this FG issue in like a dragon gaiden: the man who erased his name, DLSS FG adds maybe 10 fps if any at all but AMD FG works perfectly fine
well .. i play at medium preset but with ultra textures so no noticeable difference at all with the framerate
don't care that much about the other visuals like lighting specially during combat
just finished svartalfheim btw, 1440p FSR 3.1 quality scaling, no FG
Usually, Digital Foundry will make an optimized PC settings for new PS5 games coming to PC, along with a comparison between the two.
also when using dlss fg you cant turn reflex on (after you put it on close the settings than go back to settings and it automaticly put it back to off)
Would a 1660 super and Ryzen 5 2600 six-core also work to run this game ?
DLSS FG is patched now and turn down Tessellation for the moment to fix FPS in Yggdrasil.
had no problems with the performance at all been playing on a 6800xt 1440p ultra native with FSR frame gen I have played through half of the game already the lowest fps I saw were 120
Same for me, the only isue i got is when play as atreus there is weird noice like a wistle, I think it's Ingrid's voice, but Ingrid isn't in the story, I think it's more of a game bug than a GPU problem.
Thanks, i was wondering what the deal was with performance in the Yggdrasil loading area as well as Sindri's house. I'll check tesselation next time i play. I have my fps locked to 100 to save my pc toasting my room ha
Ryzen 5 7600
7900 GRE
32gb ram
1440p native all on ultra arround 100fps. Wtih frame generation arround 180-200fps.

Ask yourself that
I played this on my gtx 1660 super. Game was great and my Graphic card held its own provided 60 fps smoothly. Finished the game 2 days ago, felt good. Sadly my brave graphic card is no more.RIP to the legend
Since the PS5 is using AMD I'm not entirely surprised that there are odd glitches with NVIDIA usage.
I am surprised that a legitimate AAA game even utilized them when they perform so poorly on pretty much all of the hardware that's out there.
does nanite completely go around this and use compute units directly?
I have a RX6800 and things started off great but after they snowy area it got bad real quick basically performance cut in half.
I have same gpu running fine , maybe because iam on 1080 p
I have the rx6800 too. Works Fine on 4K OLED TV. In the Snow area on Ultra Graphics with TAA Native I’ve got 60-70fps. But in the area After this i only got 40-50fps. I put my settings on high + fsr 3.1 quality Mode and Frame Generation on. So I have between 85-110fps
I am enjoying it much more to Play Games like this on a Big OLED with big Stereo Boxes than on a WQHD Monitor with shitty colours. Sorry for Bad englisch ❤
This game runs at 1440p 60fps locked in performance mode on a Ps5. Why not try running this on an AMD Rdna 2 or 3 card?
Ultra for screenshot
High for gameplay
Some of Sony's pc ports limit vram usage to 6.5 ish on 8gb card which sucks because I'd get 60 all day when I start but 10 minutes later i get 30 which im fine with but it stutters up and down.
I noticed in most games DLSS frame gen doesnt do anything on 4060
Hi great video as always.
Can you plz check cyberpunk 2077 fsr and frame gen update? I get less gpu utilization with fsr frame gen
I still have what I believe is shader compilation performance issues. When in new areas performance will tank and if I close the game and open again it's fine. Also game is doing shader compilation every time I restart the pc.
Rx6600, ryzen 5500, 48gb ram
I dont see much of a dif with graphic settings. Very little if any. (i still run it at ultra, native, no bs fake frame stuff)
You have to restart the game to get the frame gen working.
the same things with tree tessellation in RDR2, it makes my rx7700xt to drop fps down to 45fps in the woods.
I also notice that in rdr2
Only real issue I had was that DLSS Frame Gen literally does nothing when you switch it on.
It's patched now.
Tesselation is usually quite weak when it comes to performance hits. Wonder what is going on.
The difference between high and ultra on performance should have been noticed.
i had few minor bugs but y i noticed some perfoamnce deeps esp mid to late game for example when i face that squerel
My rx 6700xt is going 40 50 fps n 1080p high or ecen medium settings in wetlands area but in snow area 100 plus wthh ill try now tessellated
this port is amazing evne metter than last god of war in my experience. i booted it up on my 3090ti and can get a solid 90fps locked on ultra with dlss.
that sounds like horrible performance for a ps4 game tbh
@@DempigNot really given it ran at 30 fps in 1080p with console graphics on the PS4. If he's talking about 4k, that's not so bad.
@@Gazzsi it was upscaled 4k on console just like he's using upscaling , neither is native 4k
@@Dempig not on ps4, its just 1080p no upscaling on low/medium 30fps. I'm sure he'd be at 300+ fps/cpu bottlenecked at ps4 settings.

You discovered the culprit, good job Mr. Math Teacher!
bruh is making very detailed videos lol sony should thx to this guy
Frame drops are the final boss of Ragnarok?
Lots of color, lots of vegatation, small mounds tanks the performance in svartalfheim. Same happened with me the drop was kind of insane from 100fps to 50.
Wait what? You think that more colors = higher gpu load?
@@emilgustavsson7310 No just mentioning. Vegetation is what does it to most gpus.
I would recommend getting a 5600x or 5700x3d as that 4070 is heavily bottelecked by the 3600x.
It’s like Tree tesselation in RDR2 sucking frames
Your the lifesaver man now i know why fps are dogshit sometimes
Guys I have 6700 XT now, is it worth upgrade to 6800 XT?
Wait until RDNA 4 or RDNA 5.
the least i'd upgrade to is 4070ti super / 7900xt /6950xt
When I talk with the squirrel my fps tanks
model quality is the broken setting, set that to medium. everything else on high/ultra
Every setting is broken. Every 2 min you have to turn textures to medium to high again to the vram usage go below 100%
If you toggled between FG options quicky, game would crash. Hey but I would play the game on med/low settings with 4070 :)
Just watching that small combat section at the end already got me bored of the finishing moves when killing every single trash mob. That should be saved for only the last mob of the area.
If you’re not at 120 FPS max settings with no software trickery like DLSS and FSR at 1440p. And the card is not a 1440 P card
That's laughable. So a 4080 isn't a 1440p card? Because it can't run Alan wake 2 at 120fps max settings at 1440p lol
