    Great points. Even by just angling the throttle down a couple of notches really boosts the ergo of the finger throttle. The throttle out of factory for most scooters are set waaaaay too high of an angle. Actually helps the display legibility when you angle it down as well I’ve found with mine. I really hope ESG watches this video. Keep up the good work mate.

    I was looking for a scooter that had about 25-30 mph top speed to a range of 20-25 miles. I stumbled uppon the Varla Pegasus and Kaabo Mantis 8. I thought the Mantis was better overall with smoother acceleration, more portability and less weight, pneumatic tires and a solid build. One thing I was worried about was how I would like the trigger throttle. The varla pegasus had a thumb throttle. Right now, I had a segway ninebot max which has the thumb throttle. As soon as I got the scooter, I faced the trigger throttle more downwards for more comfort and easily felt comfortable with this throttle body. I agree with your points in this video. One thing I have to thank you for is recommending the mantis 8 to me. Just got one and I loved it.

    Only tried thumb so far, and my initial thought about trigger was.. that seems awkward. But tilting it down, it looks much better indeed.
    I find the thumb throttle is difficult to keep steady on uneven ground. I suspect trigger is better in that regard.

  • @zeroin8157

    I was debating whether I replace the trigger throttle with the thumb throttle on my pre-ordered Zero 10X. After watching your video it makes sense that it would be more comfortable and more control using the trigger throttle. I’m use to just using my finger when it comes to braking and moving the clutch on a motorbike. With having the thumb wrapped around the handlebars at all times. Much safer too. Thank you for the video. And yes, I am new to the scooter world. I can’t wait to have fun. “ROCK ON”

      Agreed. I hadn't considered the thumb/finger trigger question before buying and ended up with thumb in a push forward configuration. It also didn't immediately click that I had cruise control, and I tended to keep the throttle pushed forward, which was indeed tiring, especially with small hands. I have since learned to modify my instinctive behavior and now use the throttle only when necessary

    I learned the trigger throttle is up like that often times for shipping reasons and it looks to be for marketing too. The photos show the display better. But in actual use, you're standing over it and would probably want the display in a more laying down position than vertical. Having it so vertical is also bad for your wrist ergonomically.

    i prefer the Nami style (Wuxing 108X) and round throttle like Rion etc.
    I had a trigger throttle, and when adjusted correctly it is decent to ride with, but it feels less controllable than one of those IMO
    i can also put my thumb on the body of that style thumb throttle and do small movements because i ride in power control mode (while scooters out of the box ride in speed control mode)

  • @spellcop
    @spellcop ปีที่แล้ว

    great video and agree with the positioning of brakes and throttle. sadly and most frustratingly, the kaabo skywalker handle bar, perhaps not wide enough or because it requires room to fold down, the brake levers and the throttle cannot be moved further inward, so they all end up cramped together with the fingers in the way of each other and no room to comfortably place or use them on brake and throttle without overlapping, blocking and literally dangerous and fumbling with the lever and trigger on top of each other! no wonder the throttle is perhaps, in my case, have to be angled up so as to be kept out of the way of overlapping the brake lever, preventing the trigger from being pulled, etc. etc. 😤😤😤

    They should always make it an option for a full twist not half not just others that’s fine too but full twist allows me to handle and hold the grips fully like I want to. I just like full twist not that any other is bad or anything.

  • @finophile
    @finophile 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Hi, having both types in the scooters I own I can say that the trigger throttle definitely gets in the way of brakes. If you don't have a brake lever on that side possibly its better. If you have hydraulic brakes (as my friends Wolf Warrior has) then its even worse and either the brake has to be too far down for comfort or the trigger to high.
    Each are difficult to control and requires the rider to put aside their fantasy that its a thing which should obey them and actually learn to use it (it is after all a machine).
    Lastly after decades of motorcycle riding the operation of pushing the thumb is a bit more akin to the movement of twisting the throttle ... so there's that too.
    My view is the most important thing is to learn how to take advantage of cruise control and know how to work that.

  • @dangerbirb4981
    @dangerbirb4981 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have a trigger throttle and the first thing I did was adjust the angle of the trigger. I still find it awkward and my finger definitely cramps. Plus having trigger throttle AND trigger brakes mean you have to weave your fingers through both triggers in a strange way and if you let go you might mistakenly grab the wrong one when your hand returns to the handle bar. I don't have access to a thumb throttle but the rented scooters I've tried with one seem more comfortable to use.

    I have just bought a Dragon scooter with a dangerously fierce trigger throttle. Today on my 3rd ride, I found out what you just advised but also have a conflict with the brake lever which is now in the way of my index finger. I will try to angle it down further but my main complaint is the function of the throttle? It has to be turned very gradually if you want to avoid being thrown forward uncontrollably but the first 10 or 20 degrees does nothing and then it is fierce! What do you see as the solution to this?

    There's no better or worse since it's personal preference. It's only a comparison.
    1:43 that's partly because upright is better to look at the display, especially under the sun. Not everyone use a phone for speedo. And being upright is slightly better to prevent being mistake the throttle as the brake.
    It's kinda like pneumatic vs solid tires, or standing vs sitting debate. There would always be two camps. No right or wrong. Just personal preferences.

    I have a Zero 8 with a finger-throttle in horisontal position. And auto-pilot om top of that. Still though - I would prefer a thumb-throttle. This throttle really is inherently better. Most people have the acceleration-option on max. Therefore they want to have better acceleration-control with a finger-throttle. Change to slower acceleration, and enjoy better ergonomic comfort with the thumb-throttle. At least let the buyer choose for himself with type of throttle he wants - also on high-end scooters.

    Really interesting stuff man, thank you. You clearly seem knowledgable so I had a quick question that is pretty much subjective. I have a Ninebot Max G30LP that tops out at 18-19mph. Good scooter but I want to go faster but not sketchy fast. The Emove Cruiser apparently hits 25-28mph. Do you find a noticeable diff btw 19 and 25mph? I just want some zip but nothing crazy. Thank you!

      It goes up to 33mph now but your comment was 2 years ago. Which scooter did you purchase?

    I just got my scooter with a trigger throttle, but the thing that you didn't mention is hand size...... i am a little person and am finding it hard to reach the trigger ;( then the trigger is too big and gets in the way of me pulling on the break(my hand is too small to hold them both at once) ;( ;( ;( Why didn't you mention this..... you need a tiny person's perspective, i guess... (like all the females in the world lol). On top of all of that, the trigger feels sticky... like a ball mouse that hasn't been cleaned in forever... but that might just be the cheap plastic, or spring, idk.. thankfully i can change the throttle on the e-scooter i have.

    We already know its trigger

    This is what I've been trying to tell people but they don't get it. You need the thumb to grip because it is the only opposing finger to the other four. If you lose the trigger finger you still got the other three but on the thumb side if you lose it you got nothing so you have to grip the bar much harder causing cramping. When I use to race Jetskis they all came stock with thumb throttles and the first thing everyone did was ditch those for trigger finger throttles for better control. With scooters it seems the general opinion is reversed. Normally I wouldn't care but for the fact that you can't find any good third party trigger finger throttles because the manufacturers think no one would buy them. Sadly, most of the new scooters are now coming with thumb throttles.

    I just don't like the trigger throttle because I'm always pulling it by accident and it's caused some uh-ohs.
