- This is my first video prepping for getting my car California legal. When you swap engines you are allowed to follow certain guidelines. But even when you do that you still need to go to a state smog station and have them check your work. So here are some tips as I finally begin this process

heck yeah man lets get it BAR cali life! : ' ) ( i hate it here lol )
Yeah me too, it seems so straight forward but my car is throwing p0420 code saying catalyst is below efficiency. So either I can run a cleaner or need a whole new cat 😅
Can u run that skunk2 intake manifold?
@@Booyaabuilt yeah you have to make sure it’s real has numbers printed on it then comes with a Carb EO number sticker to show cops or smog people
hey, I just stumbled across your video because I was looking into barring my car as well! I was wondering if you might know if a B20z2 would be a legal swap for a 99' civic hatch. I researched and seen people say yes and no. I got a call appointment with them in a few days but maybe I can get a quicker answer from you haha!
That may be a better question for 4 real time. I think his comment is just below yours because he has a 1991 Civic wagon all-wheel-drive that he is trying to put a B20 in and what the smog tech told him up in the bay area was that he had to Bar a B18 LS first and then because that is technically a stock replacement for the Integra then he could put the B20 in and bar that I don’t know if it worked out or not.
Because I’ve heard that even though it’s a Honda motor and the right year lineup and everything else it’s considered a light truck motor . But Mr. for real time also pointed out the hypocrisy of being able to spend $10,000 and buy a California legal V-8 that you can put in any car maker model as long as you can stuff it in there but somehow a Honda motor in a Honda is somehow a problem.
@@civicstar982 hey man thank you for the quick response and will chat up with 4realtime and see where I can go from there.
@@99ekev91 I originally had a 1998 civic hatch with b16a2 swap that I got through bar but that got stolen and I got out of Hondas for a long time but I came back with a vengeance
You look like young the rock, you know that?
I’m going the exact same issue with the same motor but in a 99 Civic hatch and the state ref has been giving me constant issues with my catalytic converter that requires a two bung. I’ve already got a confirmation from Acura stating my diagram is correct but the state ref keeps challenging that it’s incorrect.
So I’m currently trying to get the right cat that’s the last thing I need. Even hit up my old mechanic friend who has the state refs cell number. I’m trying to figure out the right EFN#. But it seems odd because the Integra factory manifold has a bung for the primary so I’d assume the cat would just have the down stream O2 sensor. That’s my only issue a CEL for cat efficiency. Then I’ll go to Honda and have them check my ecu then make a ref appointment
@@civicstar982 the catalyst is the exact issue that I have with the state ref and he even told me to go get it verify with the dealer which I did and they stated that it was correct. It’s been countless research with an associate from American Honda and the dealer that my diagram is correct. Also the Honda, Acura configuration are also off. So I am currently still waiting for a response from the state ref.
@@JohnnieIsBored we should be smog exempt by now. All these trucks rolling coal and a couple Hondas are the problem 🤦🏾♂️. One advantage is that my county isn’t advanced so they don’t put the car on the rollers for the smog test at the ref. But have to get past visual. I need to clean up the wiring so that it looks more factory.
@@civicstar982 I agree and I think we should come together to start a petition because it’s giving these people too much power over us. This is our tax payers money that’s funding this BS.
@@JohnnieIsBored if you need some co leaders of the movement hit up 4realtime he has a civic wagon 4wd b20 swapped and the ref told him no. So he had to get an b18 swap that in and ref it then put the b20 in and ref that. And he did a whole video about how you could drop 10k and buy a carb legal
v8 you can stuff into any car it can fit it in, but putting a Honda motor into another Honda is blasphemous. 🤷🏾♂️
I have a 95 civic and trying to find an obd1 engine to swap from 95 integra or prelude
@@tooltips9911 i might have that depending on where you are located
@@civicstar982 I'm in socal. Upland
Does the ecu have to be the exact/ original that came with the engine being swapped over?
@@HooliganCha no that would be cool but often that’s not possible. Or if the car the engine came out of was an auto and your car is standard. Or if the engine came out of an obd1 car and you are Obd2. So you need the right model year as your car or newer to be legal and then you aren’t allowed to modify anything internally .
Ok thanks
What about the charcoal canister you have is it also from a gsr ?
@@HooliganCha since this car is a 2000 it’s charcoal canister is large and has a sensor on the top of it and so everything plugged in and so I have no check engine lights and also have a fuel tank pressure sensor that the ecu sees the signal. I think the referee will see all these as original equipment and I do not think they are different than from the Integra. In my other car, my red and white hatchback it’s a 1996 body and it also has a GSR and charcoal canister is totally different. It has no sensors on it. Just a couple vacuum lines. It runs into it and it’s only about as thick and width as a monster energy can and maybe a little bit taller so definitely a different set up, but it doesn’t raise any alarms when it’s plugged in.
@@HooliganCha what year is your car at? Which swap are you putting in? The only swap that I’m having trouble with because I have three different cars I need to put through the state bar. 1997 Civic hatchback because it has a B16A2. And the version I’m using, isn’t the one out of the del Sol but the one out of the civic SI so that’s the ECU I have. And that particular computer looks for fuel pressure sensor that really only came on civics 98 and newer, I believe. and that’s the only reason that car has a check engine light and so I need to resolve that before I can take it in
What year is the chasis car. What year/ carbis the new engine and ecu from??
2000 civic cx
2001 integra Gsr B18c1 swap with matching ecu.
does the ECU need to VIN match the engine and trans?
I don’t think that is a thing as far as u know. You can put in an engine the same year or newer. This is a 2000 so I have a 2000 spec GSR any b series trans that fits. Then the ecu has to be obd2b since that covers 99-01 in integras and 99-00 in civics to match the wiring I have
What if i have 1998 civic ex, using ex harness to 99 gsr, what do i need to do from there
That seems pretty linear. It should mostly plug in because that harness is already VTEC. You might need to add in some IAB’s. Which I think have one plug but if you run the skunk to manifold, you can just delete that. The only thing that will be difficult is for it to be legal. You’re gonna need the 99 to 01 ecu And there’s a conversion harness it’s like 160 bucks that will make it work
Where can i get that
@@tubyaj5662 I’m 99% sure I got my harness at. HA motor sports but I’m trying to load the site now and it’s not working. So I don’t know if they shut down. Or it’s blocked because I’m in California
What kind of plug is have to add with i use oem manifold
@@tubyaj5662 if you are using the oem GSR manifold you will need a plug to go into the IAB system to help actuate the secondary butterfly system. But I don’t need that any more since I have the skunk2 manifold. And my harness is just a modified 99-00 civic ex one because other wise I wouldn’t have the vtec wiring or plugs on my cx model body
