  • Lesson Objective: To understand the elements of Radio Drama and explore how a performance is put together.
    Task 1: What is Radio Drama?
    - Radio drama is a dramatised audio performance, broadcast on radio, or other audio media.
    - Radio was first invented in 1895, but it wasn’t until 1922 that the BBC were able to broadcast radio shows in the uk. By the late 1930’s, radio drama was widely popular in many parts of the world and the most accessible ‘digital’ way to experience drama.
    - There were, and still are, lots of different programmes in many different genres, from mysteries to thrillers, soap operas and comedies.
    Task 2: Discussion.
    Have a look at the two pictures of a radio drama in action and make some notes on what you see.
    Picture 1: 03:55 // Picture 2: 04:55
    - What do you notice about the performance space?
    - Where are the audience?
    - Can you identify the set / props / costumes?
    - What challenges do you think there might be for people creating a performance in this way?
    Task 3: Radio Drama Example // 05:44
    Listen to the start of this BBC Radio Drama - Shadows of The Past - by Rosemary Timperley and note down all the different sounds that your hear.
    Task 4: The 4 Elements of Radio Drama // 07:45
    MUSIC - SOUND EFFECTS - NARRATION - DIALOGUE
    Watch the example of these in the video above and then search online for a radio drama of your choice create a mind map of your own showing audio examples for each of the four elements.
    Enjoy the lesson!

    I think the first snippet of the radio play which depicted a scene between two people walking inside a room to investigate, though shown in audio only, is from the radio play of The Murder of Roger Ackroyd.

    Hi Dan,
    Great videos.
    Can I please ask, what app were you using for the filters? Was it a social media website?
    Trying to think of an app I could get the children to experiment with in a lesson environment that isn't a social media platform.
    Thanks so much 😊

    • @DramaDan
      @DramaDan  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Natalia thanks! Yes it was actually I was using the TikTok filters (not that I’m an actual active user of the platform 😂). Great question though, it’s good to explore alternatives to social media! I’ve just had a quick scan on the App Store and there’s an app called ‘Banuba’ that’s maybe worth a look!?
      Seems to have similar filters available without the need to create an account to use them. Maybe start there?!

    I was wondering, is it actually possible to do radio drama live on TH-cam? You see, I've written some scripts and would like to manifest them. Is it possible?

    • @DramaDan
      @DramaDan  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes I can't see why not! Providing you have everything you need to perform it. Are you wanting to create the experience of Live Radio audibly or for people to see the live 'performance' element visually whilst it is happening?

Personally I want to hear what you have to say, which sounded good. I just could not tune out the tunes. Beware. Never ending background music was used to break down detainees in Guantanamo Bay.
