An explanation as to why the AI went for rock tomb against your Beautifly: Rock tomb gets a -3 score, because Nosepass sees itself as being faster. ~70% of the time however, it will get a +2 score from being doubly super effective, meaning rock tomb can get up to a -1 score. Tackle, being not the highest damaging move will sit at a -1 score all the time, meaning it can tie Rock Tomb. Block will sit at a large negative score after the target is already trapped, so after it is used once, it should not be considered anymore. As for harden, ~70% of the time it starts at +2, the other ~30% at 0. Then there is a check that runs when a Pokemon is between 40% and 70% hp. That check says: if the last move used by the opponent was a special move, -2 score. This means that the lowest scores for harden can be -2, tackle is always at -1, and rock tomb can go up to -1. When moves are tied for score, one of them is chosen at random, with equal odds. This effectively means there is a roughly 10% chance (if I did the math correctly) for the AI to go for rock tomb when faster, if the player mon is 4x weak against rock. These number change when above 70% hp and again below 40% hp, and depending on whether you last used a status move, physical move, or special move, but it boils down to that there is always a small chance for the AI to go for rock tomb when faster and the player mon is 4x weak

if this is doable, then bite and sound based runs would also be interesting to see. but i dont know if there are enough pokemon to make any of these into a full run, let alone interesting/fun video
Ig you could do like Gallade, Bisharp, Gliscor (hyper cutter mon plus a a few design details), honedge, scyther/kleavor (scizor us more punch/bite) hisuian avalugg, Haxorus and, anything with like hypercutter and other “cutting/slashing related abilities like sharpness.
Yeah, this is a clever one and I think it would have to be in Scarlett or violet (or a particularly new ROM hack) so that as many of them as possible can actually have the ability sharpness. Ideally I think a ROM hack though, since I suspect that kingambit and haxorus alone would trivialize almost any battle in the Scarlet and violet base game. Or he could do one that includes the DLC, that would actually be cool
When I wanted to do a "bug only run" in Hoenn, it very quickly went from "catching all the bugs" to "EV-pump Masquerain and Armaldo and Masq gets all the special moves and Armaldo all the physical moves" because holy moly all the other pokés are hot garbage, especially when you didn't have the exp all to get them levelled quickly and instead had to actually train them individually.

Though he doesn’t show up in any of the movies/shows to my knowledge, “Eric” is named after “Eric O’Grady” i'm pretty sure, the third and second least known ant man. Bit sad to see no representation for the second wasp (not Hope in the comics) or giant man, Nadia and Raz, or the fourth ant man Zayn, but those are all pretty deep cut character references anyways, even if you do read the actual comics.
@GarchompFJ what about that tone you locked Flygon in the basement and refused to tell him it was a joke until afterwards? That caused him trouble. Making you his antagonist.

Seriously, your humor is hilarious. Love all of your videos and this squarespace ad attempt was perfect. Thank you for your entertainment. Greetings from Germany
For that seemingly random Rock Tomb, I think it might be something like the AI double rolls the speed tie to see if it 'thinks' you outspeed it. Like first the game determines who will go first, anytime Nosepass goes first the game *thinks* that it's faster so it won't go for rock tomb, and anytime you go first it now has Rock Tomb as an 'option'. At this point it needs to decide which move to use, and whether it prioritizes Rock Tomb or deprioritizes it is based on it flipping another coin due to the speed tie to see if they think you're faster or not. In all cases but speed ties, double checking like this would seemingly make no difference but probably make programming the AI easier, but in the case of a speed tie it might result in speed control moves essentially having a 25% chance to be chosen as you both need to go first and the AI before it rolls the 50/50 on if it thinks you're faster. That's just my guess though.
I think this is an intuitive thought process, and indeed this is roughly how the AI is "supposed" to behave with regards to speed. But the Emerald AI has many bugs, and this is one of them. The code incorrectly checks whether the target is faster than the user. So the AI will always see speed ties as being faster than the player.

For those wondering, Volbeat and Illumise are pseudo exclusives in Ruby and Sapphire, with one of the pair being a 1% encounter in each game (compared to 18% for their opposite). The idea being that while you could catch one, it would be easier to trade for one with your friend on the other game. I believe Plusle and Minum share the same set up, with one being a 2% encounter and their opposite being a 15% encounter in each game. When they made Emerald's encounter tables for the relevant routes they took the 1% Volbeat from Ruby and the 2% Plusle from Sapphire. That way emerald couldn't be a substitute for either game in terms of 'psudo' exclusives. It's the same approach used with the real exclusives. They make sure the third game is missing at least 1 exclusives from each of the 2 'main' games

Hey flygon! I love your nuzelocke challenges and wanted to share an idea for a super fun if a little bit easy for you challenge style of nuzelocke I’ve been doing, I’ve beaten XY, SWSH, DP, and ORAS using only quadrupedal Pokémon, this might be too easy for your tastes but it has some fun difficulty’s and if anybody reads this who isn’t flygon (not that I think he will anyways) I think you should try!! It’s a fun way to split up your encounters, I enjoy debating what Pokémon qualify, obviously some Pokémon like eevee work, but what about lilligant? Or revavroom? I personally include them but I’d be interested in what others have to say!! If you do end up likening the idea and using it I’d be so excited to see how a far more skilled nuzelocker like yourself would utilize exclusively puppers, kittys the occasional actual animal and poorly poorly special endowed four “legged”/ footed boys PS : whoever has read this far have a very good day!!

A fellow bug fan! Happy birthday, hope it’s a good one!!
Finally some showcasing of my special little bug son, my useless baby Volbeat
Hello! Can you try doing a fossil only nuzlock? You can roll a wheel for a random fossil at the start, as well as after each gym challenge
never in my life have i ever seen water sport actually used in a strategy. insane plays here
The way I CACKLED at the New Hope Star Wars joke, not helpful as it’s the middle of the night and my family is asleep but that was too funny
I love bugs so much even if they're not the best so it fills me with joy to see em kick butt!
I know I'm a bit late to the party but I approve of the music choice of The Ants Go Marching near the end there for the bug type run
Both pchal and flygon have gotten so much better at ads, i actually sit through some of them
16:57 “Great Scott!”
Appreciate these side nuzlockes while you’re rocking through run & bun. Keep up the good work!
Always a great day to see my all time favorite get usage
Once again here to say, your ad Segways (I know its segue, but i don't care) are one of my favorite things on TH-cam.
0:42 Missed opportunity: Two peas in a Metapod!
Insanely happy that Illu and Volbeat finally got some love here
flygonhg makes my favorite pokemon videos, no contest. i hope he keeps making them for years to come :)
It's a good day when FlygonHG gives us a hardcore nuzlocke.
If you do end up likening the idea and using it I’d be so excited to see how a far more skilled nuzelocker like yourself would utilize exclusively puppers, kittys the occasional actual animal and poorly poorly special endowed four “legged”/ footed boys
PS : whoever has read this far have a very good day!!
I love that you were able to keep the shiny alive. I got nervous at the end there…
this perfectly cooked fish fillets bit has gone too far and I'm all here for it
Nice job finding a shiny before a 1% encounter lol, I always say that I’ll find a shiny before the 1%, it hasn’t happened to me yet though
I love the almost complete lack of bug moves used in this buglocke, if I'm not mistaken just a few signal beams were used from hope.
Loved this playthrough and how you used each teammate. Keep up being awesome!! :D
My favourite nuzlocker with my favourite game. Love it Dr F
I have never seen a legitimate water sport usage before. Well done
