    When it comes to combat, people mostly complain about the lack of variety. As for spam clicking, that is actually ineffective, and only good for early game short blade combat. The longer you hold down the button, the bigger the chances of a strike, and a higher damage roll on top of it.

    • @EasyGameEh
      @EasyGameEh 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      yeah, but when you fight with zero fatigue and have very low chances to hit either way then spamming feels intuitive. basically you dig your own grave.

  • @EasyGameEh
    @EasyGameEh 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +9

    27:39 i don't want to be annoying (i really don't), but it is plain incorrect. hand to hand combat specifically is built around first draining your fatigue rendering your every action much less effective, then knocking you down when your fatigue effectively becomes negative and only then damaging your health. the thing is if you enter combat with zero fatigue to begin with then every hand to hand attack will drain it to below zero and knock you down. only because you have no fatigue. if you enter combat with nonzero fatigue or drink a restore fatigue potion then they will never knock you down. knock downs are generally pretty rare in this game and most often occur with powerful attacks from powerful enemies with powerful weapons like nords with two handed axes or dremoras with claymores or something like that.

    My biggest beef with Morrowind is I get WAY too powerful too quickly. It's not a challenge pretty quick and gets boring one hitting everything.

    • @Bunkerknacker_Retro-Nostalgie
      @Bunkerknacker_Retro-Nostalgie 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Absolutely. First you miss everything, then you start hitting constantly, then the one-hit massacre starts. This is one of these games were you have to discipline yourself in a way not to get too powerful and "branch off" a bit to still have a decent challenge. There are certain ways to avoid that, however:
      1) Simply alter the values in the Construction Set that comes with the game to have a flattened power curve or stronger opponents
      2) Roleplay as a character that does not go down a path that makes you too powerful in the first place
      3) Pick passive skills as major/minor that level you up not through combat and therefore leave you at a weaker state for new monster thresholds
      4) Use weapons you like or that fit your character/play style rather than going for the best gear
      5) Avoid powerful artifacts
      6) When using magic, don't go for destructive spells only, but rather use utility spells such as shield or invisibility and take different approaches to encounters or avoid them entirely

    So I just started this video, but I want to note that while Michael Kirkbride was a very influential writer of TES lore, he was not the main writer for Morrowind. Credit for the majority of Morrowind's writing goes to Ken Rolston and Douglass Goodall. Kirkbride IS credited for Art Direction, but his direct contributions of lore in Morrowind is limited to the 36 Lessons of Vivec, The Pocket Guide to the Empire, and a couple of books on deities. Which isnt to say he wasnt a huge part of Morrowind, just that Kirkbride's importance will sometimes be overstated to the detriment of giving credit to the work that Rolston and Goodall did.

    • @DoctorPhanan
      @DoctorPhanan 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Now I finished this video, I have a couple comments.
      Your fast travel complaint is worth considering, and is likely the argument that Bethsoft agreed with for later entries in the series. However, in my opinion, this is basically an argument of immersion vs convenience. It is more immersive for boats and silt striders to stop incrementally make you pay additional fees to continue your journey. Furthermore, it adds flavor to the different types of fast travel available, Mage teleportation connects to every mage guild, boats travel along the coast, and Silt Striders connect the western and southern regions in an interlocked network of towns. I like the feel that this system evokes, how it makes a location like Tel Fyr feel distant and remote, but I can understand the desire for a more convenient system especially if you're playing the game for an audience.
      On weapon durability, again this is an immersion and convenience thing, but I enjoyed the struggle of running out of durability in the wilderness trying to scrape together enough coins to get my gear repaired between quests. (This was when I was 14 playing on OG XBOX, and didn't have close to the level of mastery I do 20 years later) The other lesser known aspect of weapon durability is a form of game balance. In Morrowind your attributes affect your damage, and as long as you have the resources, there really isn't a cap on how high you can get them, so you could theoretically get a million strength and just one shot everything, but weapon durability is tied to how much damage you deal, so if you choose to explode everything with a sword, your sword will break with every swing.
      I think you should consider playing the main quest, it has more complex dungeons and the story really gets into some interesting lore.

    Regarding the magic prevalence, it is indeed a high magic setting where everyone knows a spell or two, and most middle class people have an enchanted item or two.
    A majority of even the NPC classes have magic skills. On that note, I can recommend replicating them for added immersion; my personal character being an apothecary.

    The departure of the main writer is definitely felt after oblivion, mostly in the Skyrim clans and quest lines. Brotherhood in Skyrim had a lot of atmosphere but the contracts had zero parameters. “Go kill this guy”. Okay any specifics for how you want it done?? “Idk knife lol??” Oblivion had you go to a certain place, at a certain time, and kill him with special poison; or unfastening the mounted deer head above his reading chair at 8pm, because that’s when he’ll be sitting there. Hopefully they beg the writer back after how hard starfield flopped.

      Brotherhood in Oblivion was written by the same dude everyone is blaming for everything going wrong. BGS are def missing Kirkbride + the other senior quest dev (I think Will Chen?) just quit after Starfield & looked pretty checked out in Starfield interviews. But the same people who claim they love the Brotherhood in Oblivion don't realize that was the Emil dude's questline.

    Downloading the patch/bug fix mods are necessary for playing the game, and they won't impact gameplay ^.^ unless you want them to. Patching the pickpocket system for a thief character is probably also necessary. Otherwise the game rolls for if you can view the inventory, what's in the inventory, taking an item, and closing the screen O.O it's a little insane. So I would definitely recommend patching that stuff so you're not falling through floors and having trouble with random attacks (besides the Cliffracers. Saint Jiub hasn't killed them all yet).

    25:30 I wonder about a weapon maintenance mechanic --- repair should be a failure condition; maybe it would justify extra cost or labour, but maintenance should be low cost & have benefits. I dunno it just strikes me weird since I know folks with weapons maintain them much more than they fix them. It could pair with a rest condition (that wasn't as punitive as this one, or as restricted). But I think of Safe Room vibes, like sitting down at a fire to oil your battle-axe could be a nice experience., & an opportunity to deepen interactions with companions NPCs etc.

    Mounts weren't common in that era of gaming, too difficult to properly implement on older systems already pushing the bounds of 3D tech. It's more difficult than the comparable Warthog since the first Halo is in the same era. Even then, the vehicle combat mechanic was pretty revolutionary for that game and novel for the era.
    You mostly see mounts and combat in that era of 3D when the game advertises it as an on the box mechanic like Zelda: Twilight Princess. I don't think even modders have had luck with mounts in Morrowind since it's using an older RPG engine. Instead you'll use Silt Striders or boats for fast travel around the island. It has to pop you in and out. Otherwise... you know... potion of intelligence exploit let's you make your own gear with speed buffs if you're trying to avoid counteracting the effects of the boots of blinding speed.

  • @thefranken-thing
    @thefranken-thing 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    If you are moving slow with over 50 speed, then you encumbrance is too high, or your strength is too low. I have not had issues with the movement speed in years since I started limiting my equipment load to 25-50% of my encumbrance. I only load up when I'm looting dungeons or taking stuff to the shops to sell. One way I did this was to stop wearing armor pieces that only give a negligible boost. Cuirasses do 30% of your total rating and are usually lighter than other armor combos that add up to the same value, so I always wear one. There are also legendary cuirasses that have some of the highest armor ratings in the game, while there is less variety for other armor pieces. Then, I wear maybe a helm, shield, boots, or greaves. I do a lot of math to figure it out. I also dont carry repair hammers. i just fix stuff when I'm in town. I only use journeyman's and master's probes because they weigh 0.3 instead of 1 each. It makes the game feel way smoother and less tedious. Give it a try if you haven't already. It really makes you prioritize what you need for each expedition into the wilderness. You won't turn into Usain Bolt, but you'll be comparably fast to Oblivion or Skyrim.

    Morrowind is legit great even with it not aging well, the magic system alone is FANTASTIC, I like skyrim as well but I HATE, HATE!! what they did to magic playthroughs on it, they literally flip flopped the experience balancing the other two by gutting the third, its the most aggravating thing in the series as a whole, they get a good system thats 90% of the way there then scrap it to overfocus on the other two styles. Let them take all the time they need for six and find a way to bring it all together without sacrificing parts of it and 6 could be the best rpg ever seriously..
