    1. When in doubt of an event's dress code, overdress a little.
    2. Ties are for salesmen. Wear a bowtie instead.
    3. Big logos make it look you are trying to brag that you can afford the brand, which means you can't.

  • @chipcook5346

Well reasoned and well produced. Thanks, man.
1 - Pocket squares. Why? Are we trying to be English?
2 - Shirt stays. Right on. And thanks for the link.
3 - Events. Tough call. Since the 90s, it's been all too easy to be overdressed. I'd rather show up that way than under. And there's no even other than pool or beach where anyone sees a man's feet.
4 - Logos. You are absolutely correct. Glasses are particularly gaudy on glasses. No wealthy man ever shows a logo.
5 - Sandals. See #3. The exception: Huaraches, such as the excellent ones from Chamula.
6 - Shoes. There is no such thing as dress sneakers. I don't care what color they are.
7 - Socks. There is no such thing as no-show dress socks. Plus, no man over thirty has ankles worth seeing.
8 - Jewelry. Classic = subtle watch, wedding ring, cuff links, and maybe a class ring if you went to a service academy or a meaningful signet ring. That's all.

Pocket squares can add a bit of personality and be an additional change to a suit jacket that doesn’t change. The way it is folded, colour, print, fabric, does it coordinate or match the tie? Formal, informal and looks better than paper napkin or whatever else might sit wrong in that pocket.

Shirt stays in Y style are great because it does keep the shirt in and the socks up!
I will be looking at the other types as I didn't know anyone made that type.
Also have a stock of collar stays, collar braces and even armbands.
Unless you are the perfect man, your arms aren't the same length. Armbands allow you to adjust for that if your tailor doesn't (which they should!)
These little beauties allow you to get away with sleeves that are just slightly too long by holding the excess farther up the upper arm and getting a perfect fall at the wrist.
Used these in the service when we got new shirts in for dog and pony shows and no time for tailoring.
If you aren't removing your jacket, nobody will know!
Always be aware of what is required for any event.
Meet (or exceed) what is expected but keep it in context.
Good shoes are ones that have replaceable parts, like heels, and a solid sole. If yours don't, then invest in some metal cleats to nail on the wear points.
Shoes are expensive so make them last!
    Great video as always Antonio!

00:00👔 Mismatched patterns and colors in outfits can make a man look chaotic and poorly dressed. Start with classic patterns and limit to two patterns per outfit.
01:50👖 Poorly fitting shirts that create a muffin top effect detract from a polished appearance. Consider using shirt stays for a neat, tucked-in look throughout the day.
05:02🎩 Lack of awareness of appropriate dress codes for different events can lead to being underdressed or overdressed, which affects overall presentation.
06:39🏈 Wearing sports jerseys outside of sports settings can appear lazy or overly casual, not suitable for most day-to-day occasions.
07:16🩴 Mixing sandals with dressier clothing or socks is generally considered a fashion faux pas, impacting overall style negatively.

The concept of the thigh strap shirt stays strikes my interest. I wonder though what the experience is when preparing to sit on the toilet. Is it tedious? can anyone share their experience?
I know with classic shirt stays, the wearer has to unclip them from the rear of the shirt, pull down his briefs, then sit while laying the rear straps across the lap. Then reverse those steps when finished.

I don't always agree with everything on this channel. But this video has a lot of common sense advice.
You are the first style person I've seen who approves of sandals as a casual outfit choice. I grew up in the 1970s and sandals were my summer footwear. I still wear them with shorts and a T-shirt on hot days. I agree, socks with sandals don't make sense. The very purpose of sandals is to keep your feet cool by letting the heat escape. Socks insulate your feet.
I was in the Army for almost 5 years but I'd never heard of shirt stays until I started watching style videos. They seem like an extra thing to wear. I just periodically re-tuck my shirt.

To help maintain my shirt blousing I attach the rear shirt stays to the bloused portion, then wrap the stay around the outside of my leg.
For some shirts I'll attach an additional short stay below the belt connecting the bloused portions. This hides the "button pull" below the belt but maintains the desired appearance.

Been wearing shirt stays for 35 years since my 20 years in the Navy and beyond. I prefer the stirrup to the Y type. Haven’t seen the shorter or big boy version but I think I would like them because they’re similar to the stirrup without having to hide the stirrup inside my socks.
Sneakers should be left to gym and casual wear and never worn with suits, it’s beyond tacky.
Don’t like skinny trousers or trousers that are too narrow, too baggy, too long, or too short. They should just break over half the top of the shoe and be no less than an inch from bottom of the shoe that meets the heel when standing; not short like your girlfriend’s capris or too long that you’re walking off the back end. They should be full enough that you don’t look like a 12-year-old little boy or so tight they look like yoga pants when wearing them.

Excellent video.Would just like to add this correction: Complementary colors are across the color wheel. Orange complements green, for example. The word is related to completion. Complementary colors are pleasing because they activate a balance of cones (color receptors) in the eye..A color which is "next to" the next section on the color wheel will be displeasing, and very tiring to the eyes. Pink and orange, for example or green and blue. So.for a pleasing look, choose colors from one wedge of the color wheel (shades of blue for example for about 95 per cent of the total and accent with the complement from the opposite side of the color wheel.(Touch of red with a base of blue) You can't 'accent" with a " next to" color. Red with yellow would look.sickening
Blue with green can make the viewer feel seasick. These are not complements and you will not receive compliments for these awful combinations. They are very tiring to eyes because they activate the same cones without breaks.

@@icaliver don’t get too busy with the overall outfit when wearing graphic tees or band shirts. Good example would be a black nirvana tee shirt with dark washed/black jeans and a simple sneaker or plain Jordan’s.

What are your thoughts on sneakers without socks worn with too-small suits? I often see this look on the guys on NFL pre game shows who are in their 50s.

You forgot to mention combining sneakers with business suits. This looks so daggy! (although I understand why some people do it-more comfortable when traveling to or from work). When I was in the corporate world, I saw this quite a bit although to be fair, they would change their footwear to something more suitable when in the office.

Some things definitely depend on age/generation. People in my dad’s generation would be triggered by your stripe shirt & checked jacket. People their age follow a strict no “2 different patterns” or 2 of the same like stripe on stripe even if one pattern is significantly more thick etc. whenever my parents see someone on tv mixing patterns they cringe. Now for you & me I think your outfit with the stripe shirt & check jacket looks slick. Kids today refuse to not wear socks with sandals & the socks must be tube socks. They give me 💩 for only wearing no shows or the smallest ankle socks.
My biggest pet peeve with the current in-style is how kids tuck their pants legs (especially sweats) into their tube socks. To me it looks like they have a bug infestation in their house or they’re going for a hike and don’t want to get covered with chigger bites. I also hate high cut trouser pant legs bc it looks like their basement flooded or they just walked across a creek.

I'm known for my "bad shirts" I'm not talking the Hawaiian affairs but quality printed house shirts. If I'm wearing one everything else is clean, quality and solid that allows the satire of the shirt to play it's proper role.
There's dressing "classic" which I do alot of the time as well, but there's also being able to wear something and people comment "that is horrible but somehow you pull it off" vibe i feel is important to explore.
It's not just about what you wear; it is how you wear it!

I love having a well tailored shirt and shirt stays. My only gripe is that it makes carry with a tuckable IWB holster impractical at the very least. Most of the time, if I'm using shirt stays in the first place, it probably means open carry is not a very good option. (I have successfully pulled it off on occasion, you'd be shocked what you can do without anybody really noticing.) I tend to avoid pocket carry most of the time, and again, if I'm not wearing jeans, I don't usually want the weight of a pistol slapping around in my pocket anyway.
Anybody here got recommendations to get around this?

Try a smaller gun like a Baretta Bobcat or Tomcat. They fit in cellphone cases and nobody but you will know. I know they don’t have the punch of a larger firearm but you’re not using it everyday and knowing you have something in those occasions when you can’t easily carry your larger gun is what matters.
You can almost do the same with a Walther PPK or S&W Bodyguard since they’re .380s but they’re a tight squeeze in the XXL Niteze cellphone case I have with my Bodyguard.

I learned at a young age mens style. I sold suits, slacks and shirts to business age men that couldn’t for the life of you know what coordinates with what. You know what those same rules from all those years ago still apply. Things have relaxed a little but what looks good still looks good. I sometimes cringe at men dressing like boy on a sports team wearing basketball shorts and jerseys at the age of 40. I even noticed that European men think wearing track suit warm ups is styling.

In liberal controlled areas like NorCal where I live many of us dress like this to look poor to avoid the gangs and scammers and gold diggers. If I lived in an area where law and order prevailed and I could carry protection I would dress nice. Simple survival strategy.

Your shorts should be pressed and come down to the top of your .knees. The only shirts you should wear are a solid colour of either Khaki, Royal Blue, Navy or Bottle green. Legs should be tanned and oiled. Ideally wear trainer socks or white only ankle socks 6 inches above your trainers.

    Random observations and thoughts:
Never wear anything with a logo. I ditched all my graphic t-shirts years ago, for I am no longer 20.
Sandals should not be worn by men over 25. No one wants to see your feet.
Shirt stays are wonderful inventions, been using them for years.
Over dress for every occasion. You’ll look good, women will notice, and other men will (should) want to raise their game.
Clothing must fit. Find a good tailor or alterations shop.
Irons and lint rollers are essential tool for life.
Anyone can look like a slob and attempt to justify it. Don’t be that guy.

Isn't all of this purely individual opinion? If I see someone that appears to dress as recommended in this video, I actually think there is something wrong with the person... Like they are needy of approval of others, have no skills, desperate for a job, partner or not actually focusing on real life challenges that we need to address as a society. Perhaps they are excessively externally focused. I personally would not hire such a person - its as if their head is not in the game (the profession they are in) and they are a bad investment as they make bad investments in themselves. Not intending to troll here at all... I do agree wearing sports tops outside of sport events don't look good, but everything else I have an opposite opinion. If people judge you for not wearing fancy clothes, it tells you how shallow they are.

Most men would dress properly if they just used what Antonio shared on that first minute. I mean, I use those rules all the time. And it's simple BUT you don't look insane. And you can always learn more advance stuff but that one minute will change everything.
