    I have followed Antonio for years on the channel. Where is started for me to learn how to dress professionally and be taken serious as a young physician actually propelled me to learn about the theme of investing in myself, in education and skills to learn to be a high valued professional and man. It has helped me advance my career further than I could have imagined and quicker than almost all peers. Thanks Antonio!

    Love the breakdown of the brand's history. My only hesitation is that some if these brands (Hermes, Burberry, etc.) have very prominent logos or garish brand printing, which goes against old money fashion (understated).

    • @RPanda3S
      @RPanda3S 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah, I expected Antonio to mention that the higher quality (and more expensive) selections from these brands do not carry the logo so prominently. But I'm not sure if that's true, and would like to hear about it from the man himself.
      "Old money" isn't really a style that I'm invested in, but that's what I've heard. Would appreciate anyone who can confirm or deny my understanding.

    • @thegentlemanplayer9689
      @thegentlemanplayer9689 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Burberry plaid is ignored over here, it was destroyed by market stalls selling everything in it. We wouldn't entertain it now. Predominantly far east and americans buying it.
      If you had ever had the joy of going to Hermes and the attitude of the sales assistance unless known to them, move on.
      All these brands have overpriced logo junk and very expensive classics.
      Zegna suit and blazer, gorgeous fabrics, and timeless classics. But you need to understand the various sub brands under the overall business. Much like RL with polo, purple etc. The Polo horse is as tacky as any logo, which honestly leaves RL really only supplying Purple label.

    • @besnyj
      @besnyj 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes that over logo stuff really sucks but I've heard that many of these brands will have stuff of even better quality but without the logo for those like us looking for it and willing to pay the slightly higher price

      @richardcostello360 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

    If there is a part 2, you should probably add Aquascutum to that list. They began on Regent St. since the 1850s and have outfitted Royalty, politicos and the best dressed English celebrities such as Michael Caine since their inception. While Burberry caught the public's attention, and has benefitted tremendously from their superior marketing campaigns, Aquascutum outfitted the English Army with trench coats in WWI and WWII and their waterproof wool fabric (their invention) was used in their coats for officers in the Crimean War. Their quality is their hallmark more than their fashion status is. When Edmund Hillary first scaled Mt. Everest he did so having been outfitted by Aquascutum. They also have their own unique club check pattern that is a great scarf alterntative to all those ubiquitous Burberry ones both real and fake. I have a vintage lambswool overcoat of theirs that might just be my very favorite article of clothing that I have ever owned. It has held up incredibly well despite being my main winter coat for many years now.

    We Gen Xers have a soft spot for Polo. It was THE uniform for us in our teen years in the 80s. I worked for weeks to save up for a Polo oxford dress shirt. Now I still buy Polo especially when I see a sale, seasonal clearance or get to an outlet store. Not quite the same quality as the vintage pieces I have but some of it is still better than the flimsiness of other "high end" brands. A few years ago I was at an upscale thrift in Vancouver. I was wearing the green Polo Golf ball hat that came with the cologne back in the 90s. A young Asian man came up and asked if I would sell it to him. I politely declined because it was a sentimental gift. I have a piece or two from some of the other brands mentioned but my heart is always with Polo.

    A fun fact on the Burberry trench coat. Back in WW1 they were worn mostly by officers and other higher military personell and if they got shot folks would risk their head and run out into no mans land to get the coat off them. That’s how good they were back then. Mostly due to the conditions in the trenches and they were waterproof and durable.

    So funny story. When I was younger (maybe like 6 years ago) while I understood that some clothes were quality, I didn't really know brands. This older lady gave me some jackets that were her first husbands, since they were about my size. I could tell they were nice but, as I said, I didn't know brands. They were a bit longer in the arms, but fit shoulders and in all other proportions. I found your channel about 3 or 4 months ago, and started learning about clothing a bit more. Turns out the jackets were Brooke Brothers. I was shocked that she gave me such nice garments. Thank you for helping me expand my knowledge of clothing and just general style

    Blancpain is the oldest watch brand not VC, secondly you mentioned Barbour but did not mention Belstaf. Then Bally should have an honourable mention as well; I’ve noticed the style and maybe the quality of Bally in USA is different than Europe.

      Bally Europe has a COMPLETELY different catalogue of products than the USA company 😂
      Europe is classic
      USA is showy yet built fir a single season

    Antonio, nothing is old money if it is manufactured in Asian sweatshops. Unfortunately, Brooks Brothers and others are making some or all of their pieces in these high margin, low quality slave pits. That said, I will make it to Savile Row or bust! Thanks for the vid!

      There are world class tailors all across Asia too

      @highqualityclothinggggg Hong Kong and Japan, but these are tailors and not manufacturers. Ralph Lauren, Tommy Hilfiger, and others have gone to the Asian sweatshops that, in some cases, are forced labor camps. The quality of these manufactured pieces is piss poor.

    Here are some relatively new companies in the USA that sell clothing in an "old money" style, meaning classics that are versatile: Civilianaire, Billy Reid, and Peter Millar. You may want to check them out and see if any should be included in a future video.

    I def. want to see more videos like this of brands Antonio! Also I wanted to ask, do these old world brands today necessarily mean quality and well made clothing or did a lot of the big name brands like Ralph Lauren, Lacoste, Burberry, etc. sell out to greed and say how can we make the others look the same but make them more cheaply made so we can profit more? That is what truly want to know. They could have been very will made and high quality when they first started but now that they are a household name are they still making their clothing with the same quality of the old days?

    Curious about winter jackets: Herno, Moncler, Canada Goose, etc. Would love to see a video comparing and going into the history of these parka brands. Especially the less known brands like Herno.

    If you make another one, perhaps mention Hart Schaffner & Marx? It's strange how they were the largest manufacturer of suits in the world as recently as the 1980's and now hardly anyone knows the name. They even owned Burberry for a while.
    In the 1960's the got large enough the government hit them with an anti-trust action.
