Sang this with my choir back when I was still a soprano. The first time we had sung this with all of the parts at once, the hair on my neck stood straight up and I got serious chills. Still feel some of that hearing this.
There's just something so different about male alto voices. We're singing this in our community choir. The guys on the alto part...that tonality...*chefs kiss* magnifique!
What I enjoyed most about attending Catholic church a child, was hearing beautiful choral voices like these singing. Andrea Murray, on our local All Classical FM station just played this piece awhile ago. It jogged my memory back to a time in childhood when I remember that all of life was perfect and flawless. This was during the late 1950's ~ early 1960's. I wonder now if we'll ever see times like that again... *When I searched in TH-cam several recordings came up but I believe that this was the most beautifully recorded. **Also read some of the hundreds of comments beneath the video in this TH-cam site. There are things to learn from here...

Their breath control is fantastic - see their 8-singer version of Rachmaninov's "Bogoroditse Dyevo", usually sung by large choirs because the length of phrases require staggered breathing. This group doesn't need to do that!
This is so beautiful...I truly appreciate you all. I wish everyone could hear what I hear in your singing. "All good and perfect gifts come from above."
Its one thing to know have good music to preforms but its another to have such a good tone they have it all. I just wish more people could experience what I do when I find myself listening to voces8
"I just wish more people could experience what I do when I find myself listening to voces8". As if your experiance is better. Yes, I like them too. But I dont want more people experience what I do, my experience is my own. There we are different.
@@staffanolofsson8201 not to mention that they butchered Ubi Caritas, you can find much superior performance here on TH-cam. This group were completely unable to deliver this piece. Might I suggest th-cam.com/video/Xp3IHBSyZKY/w-d-xo.html
Exquisite! Brought tears. I sang this with my choirs in California. Wonderful group of singers. I especially love the emotion evident on the faces of some of the singers.
They performed this for us in Houston recently and I got chills listening. Their tone is beautiful and this song really touches my heart. We sang this song in my choir and I have loved it ever since.
I wish I would have learned this song when I was in High School as part of my Concert Choir. They did this the next year after I graduated. Such a wonderful song... so beautiful.
My church choir performed this inspiring song. Instead of having a male alto we have a female tenor so we achieve a blending of female and male timbres in a different way.
Having just heard the current VOCES8 group, I honestly think this group has a more balanced, unified sound, where the 2 Sopranos don’t drown out so much Alto. They’re still excellent, and super friendly and gracious, though !! ** Ola’s Ubi Caritas will Always be my Fave, too !! ❤️❤️❤️
Magnificent piece of music that I did not know until the director of the choir I am member of, has decided to sing this in a concert. It is quite modern but it sounds also classic.
Es magnífico se siente al escuchar los una gran sensación de paz y alegria al arte del coro mucha felicidades chicos Me encanta todo su estilo que manifiestan todo es mageztuso e encantador 👏👏👏👏👏👈👈👌👌👌👌
That's like choosing between apple pie and peach pie... got to have them both, depends on your mood. I agree though, where the heck is the composer? That's rude.
There is a version of this where Gjeilo has added an instrumental accompaniment to these haunting vocals, and it has elevated them to incredible new heights. PLEASE go hear it, it's here on TH-cam too!
I absolutely adore the sound of Voces8 and I'm in love with Ola Gjeilo's splendid compositions, but to me the ensemble often strives a tad too much for effect, for example in this piece with too long pauses, too much rallentando's, to a point that it get's distracting. Instead of singing the Ubi Caritas just fluently, this piece doesn't require the extra effects. Still, interested to see them in Belgium one day!
And that day finally came. Saw the ensemble yesterday in Amuz (Antwerp) in a fabulous seasonal programme. Their live sound and performance is top notch. If you ever have the chance to witness them live, do not doubt!
@@cheryldring9780 In this recording there is absolutely no reverb. and an ensemble as extremely professional as Voces8 is perfectly capable of adapting to circumstances. It just a Voces8 thing and also a matter of taste.

I can't stand falsetto male voices. They sound fake to me, which they are, in essence. There are very few REAL countertenors.
Perfection: Music written by a genius, sung by the best acapella choir on the planet!
They are a tight group of singers. Such perfect harmony
One of the most beautiful and moving choral pieces I have ever heard. I have to hear this almost every day. Your voices on this music are angelic.
Utterly perfect ensemble.... Like ONE voice.... they are amazing. The colours and dymanic control of this group are astonishing.
Utter, utter perfection. Voces8 are the best!

That is subjective. Your carefree time was a time of nightmares for plenty other people, both in the US and around the world. Count your blessings.
This is the most beautiful singing I've ever heard

This is the finest uptaking I´ve ever heard, and the finest "only eight choir" . If you want to take a closer look, listen at their breathing.
Their breath control is fantastic - see their 8-singer version of Rachmaninov's "Bogoroditse Dyevo", usually sung by large choirs because the length of phrases require staggered breathing. This group doesn't need to do that!
this is soooo beautiful omg, you guys rival an entire choir.
One fine thing with this uptaking is that you can hear the breaths between the frases. Seldom heard and very estimated!
This is so beautiful...I truly appreciate you all. I wish everyone could hear what I hear in your singing. "All good and perfect gifts come from above."
I love the shifting harmonies at 2:25
I've been looking for this arrangement for years, and this recording brought me to tears. Thank you, so much for uploading this truly amazing song
Today on Dutch Radio. Ik heard immidialy that it was the special sound of Voces8. I look forward to you live Concert in Amsterdam.

Jesus christ, I remember singing this when Gjielo wouldn't let us record it. Fantastic rendition.
Don't use the name of God in vain, please.
Absolutely amazing performance!
sang this song in my choir. Love how you all move together. Just absolutely beauitiful.
I love this my choir teacher introduced this to the class, and I've been in love every since. ❤️
Perfect singing, just great!
such beautiful resonance and sound among this fantastic and God blessed group.
Une bénédiction pour se mettre au travail de bon matin !
We zingen dit nummer zelf ook met het mannenkoor, als ik hun hoor zingen krijg ik kippenvel hoeveel gevoel kun je erin leggen.
GEWELDIG ❤️❤️
Brings me to tears every time
Me too!
I wish I would have learned this song when I was in High School as part of my Concert Choir. They did this the next year after I graduated. Such a wonderful song... so beautiful.
Wow!!! Very well done!! 👏👏👏 We sang this with our choir and therefore I know how difficult it is to be exactly at point!!! Very good!!!
Fascinating how the quality continues through personnel changes... hire the best, get the best

Obsessed. Such a beautiful sound!

This is probably my favorite version.

Lovely smooth like butter❤❤❤
Thank you, voices 8. Totally beautiful. Love this composer.

Thanks for this wonderful performance

Thank you so much Jacques M. and Adelina A., for telling me the name of the composer!

The only scary thing about this grouping is that they are only going to get better
Robert Mount and then they did.
And still are... 😱
yup ... boy, did they ever.
They did
How right you were.. .
Your voices are Unvelivable Every time i hear your Records i get Ghoosebumps all of ya have voices which are so clearly and soft go on Great Work :)
Beautiful harmonic resolutions, including that final tierce de Picardi.
It's amazing that Dingle looks so serious in this video. It's as though he's finally realized how good the group is now, and looks so professional.
My first hearing of this arrangement, the group carries the message nicely.
I was transfixed on this one I heard it just now. 88.3 San Antonio
Beautiful and haunting. I love this so much, it gets to my heart deeply 💗💗

Awsome vocal performance
Very nice and delighting interpretation !
Absolutely mind blowing.....
Top notch singing!
Sang this in chorale... Sounded amazing
Hey, credit Ola Gjeilo the composer, please!
(I still prefer Duruflé)
Chris Alexander Same! But this is a very refreshing and haunting arrangement. I enjoy it!
That's like choosing between apple pie and peach pie... got to have them both, depends on your mood. I agree though, where the heck is the composer? That's rude.
Yeah. Where is Ola Gjeilo's name?
It's Gjeilo's version with extra harmonies, I think.
This is Duruflé's version. I never heard it in such perfection.
Beautiful!
Molto bravi. Grazie!
Having a rough time, but I know who to count on for help!
thankful my hs choir director had us singing songs like this
Amazing. So beautiful.
Meravigliosi come sempre!!!

I agree. Love the group, but this performance seems a bit lethargic and lacks momentum throughout.
Also, they often perform in spaces with LOTS of reverb, so I'm sure they are accustomed to leaving space for the sound to ring

@@jbondy6395 I do agree, Ola himself must have agreed with this performance. :-)
This..
😌🙏🏻❤️
I beg you to make more covers, i need them in my life!
What about something by Crystal Castles, electro pop would sound heavenly sung in a choir
Ubi Caritas de Ola Gjeilo! Agreguen eso
Exquisito.🎵🌷🎵🌷
Muito bem cantado
Sounds beautiful….
Please translate. Thank you.🏵
Heard this in Vienna during a choir competition. Phoenix Girls Chorus sung this during the finals.
