I'm currently watching this on my new S16 with the AMD chip this thing is trying to compete with. it's generally awesome (with excellent speakers) but there are a few issues. the screen brightness increases and decreases occasionally and I have not figured out how to stop that. the sliders on the edges of the trackpad are useless. it desperately needs USB-C ports on both sides because the charging cable is only like 1.3m. and the trackpad has a bit of a rattle like this year's Zephyrus G16... it's very small but quite annoying once you notice it. Great video's! Thank you for them!
When are manufacturers going to finally stop making white/silver laptops with white/silver keycaps and white backlights? As soon as the backlight comes on the keys become illegible.
Intel moved to TSMC nodes and suddenly their chips become as efficient as Apple M chips. So all those praises and glitters showered on Apple M chips are actually because of TSMC after all.
In part it does - manufacturing process makes a lot of difference, but also CPU design makes differences, they changed a lot of stuff to make the cpu more efficient like all ecores are on their own low power island, memory on package, and several design changes. Also OS and even OEM design can make a difference.
Assuming U turn on auto brightness.IPS LCDs are more power efficient than oleds in most typical usage scenarios. First of all most IPS lcd phones only display around 500-800 nits brightness. But amoleds display 800 -1300 nits. And IPS LCDs power consumption depends on the ambient environment light adjustment. But oleds on max brightness consume more energy if the screen is full of colours and ambient light adjustment is high compared to IPS LCDs. Oleds save power only on dark background with minimal colours on max brightness compared to IPS LCDs. In conclusion oleds draw much 20-30% more current than IPS LCDs in typical scenarios most of the time. Assuming U have a 8nm , IPS lcd smartphone Vs 6nm amoled smartphone. The 6nm amoled smartphone will use up more battery on outdoors or on a white theme. The IPS lcd will not use more regardless of bright colours or white themes
They always have been. That OLED is more efficient has always been a myth made up because OLED is usually more efficient when displaying really dark colors or just black. And people just made up based on that that OLED is more efficient in general

interresting ! waiting your final review :)
I'll give the computer to my dad and get one with a dedicated GPU
i just got the g16 do u think i should have waited for this laptop? i can still return it
This is great and all, but I still rlly wanna see ARM laptops become more mainstream and supported. It would truly take windows laptops to the next level in terms of battery life and performance.
3:19 anyone else notice that the battery slide is with the _Ultra 7 268V_ (ie not the one shown in all the performance slides, and not the one in the S14 that Dave has)? that's a little sneaky on intel's part
ultra 7 has lower base power skull emoji
You are insanely good at what you do
Bro, you got the top of the line processor here
Look at the specs, all CPUs have 4 pcores and 4 ecores, with difference in ram, and somewhat the gpu/NPU and frequencies, that it. So there won't be huge difference from bottom line to top of line.
@@eliadbu they're all the same chip, but the lower end ones are slightly bind-down
@@NothingNewNerd this is true, this is why I say there is no huge difference in performance between all of them.

Wait so you are not allowed to run your own benchmarks and show em, and you already made up your mind that they are good chips?

yes, but that's based off of what HES played meaning his standards are different to yours or mine.

Battery life won't matter if the standby sucks. No one in their right mind sits on their laptop for 15-20 hours straight. I wanna know what happens when I close the lid and open the laptop the next day. If it drains the entire battery, I bet people will prefer ARM laptops more.
or just shut it down, windows Takes 5 Seconds to boot now.

FINALLY!!! Thanks for the review!!
You said that about Metor Lake too and within the week of its launch nobody cared anymore because it was kinda crap.
The last decade saw insane progress for iGPUs. I can't wait to play Cyberpunk on high/ultra settings on tech that's not much thicker or heavier than a piece of cardboard in a few years.
Imagine playing at 40fps on a 120Hz display...
And on a 14 inch device😂
The 120Hz display is mainly nice for just feeling smooth in normal productivity tasks, I think. Though I guess stuff like Minecraft or esports games can make use of it as well.
@CutoutClips I said it cause Dave pointed out the refresh rate as inspired by gaming?
Was funny how he's like "really nice 120Hz display, must be for gaming" then we get to the charts and it's like *30-40fps*
Some 'Dave just rolled out of bed to make this video' energy here and I fuck with it
For some reason I really want to know how it compares to the snapdragon
I'm so glad that focusing on battery life is so important to these companies! I remember back when I had an old asus laptop, that thing wouldn't last even 2 hours unplugged. I hated that and always wished for something better. I finally got the taste of insane battery life when I got a Macbook Air M1 and was completely blown away by the battery life on that guy. However, I don't have it anymore sadly and now its nice seeing everyone is following the path of efficiency because now I know that anything I get in the future should last me pretty much all day if not more than what I need.
I'd still wait out for core ultra gen 3 or something. After how Intel is handling issues with 13th gen and 14th gen processors, im not gonna hop onto this just yet.

"most powerful integrated GPU on the market" Apple would like a word
They need a direct comparison for the ARC vs Apple running native game to really compare.
The thing is Apple chips don’t run on Windows OS so it’s kind of hard to compare the two .
Apple have always prioritized certain programs with their GPUs. In other words - certain apps runs fast on M series but then many others are unusable and Windows machines are better every single time.
@ehtasam2080 thats simply not true.
Plus, when you say "most", you should probably use the "most" powerful one a given company makes, which for Apple is probably the Mac Studio M2 Ultra for now
@ehtasam2080 m4 iGPU isn't Apples fastest integrated GPU. But its still faster than X Elite.
Hey Dave, great video as usual. Will you/could you do a video comparing this chip with the AMD one that came out a few weeks ago? (Maybe even include the Apple and Qualcomm ones for good measure)

I absolutely hate keyboards that the keycaps don´t make contrast with the chassis. The letters in some lighting conditions are impossible to read and they get dirty real quick. Keyboards should always have black keycaps, always.
Better learn to touch type lol. Haven't had a problem since.
maybe learn to type
Great video, thank you! The laptops sound very nice! I have a question for you. It's not really about this but what are your recommendations for laptops at the price range of about 750 euros? The inspiron 16 looked very nice with an amd 7 8840u processor. Do you also think there will be any discounts on maybe the intel chips with lunar lake chips releasing now? I just want a laptop for study and maybe some light gaming like minecraft. I would like to keep it for a few years and for it to be a bit future proof. So maybe the AI of the inspiron 16 would be usefull. I'd like to have your opinion. Do you have a good recommendation or do you maybe recommend to wait for something else? I'd like your opinion! Great video's! Thank you for them!
When are manufacturers going to finally stop making white/silver laptops with white/silver keycaps and white backlights? As soon as the backlight comes on the keys become illegible.
27 hrs battery life is insane
1:23 Dave, what's the point in showing some specs for a few seconds? Show it for like 8 seconds
Have been waiting for this video because when Dave is pleased then the device is good
Intel moved to TSMC nodes and suddenly their chips become as efficient as Apple M chips.
Also OS and even OEM design can make a difference.
it's really unfortunate because TSMC will fall if china ever decides to invade taiwan. all of TSMC's alternatives suck
Bro thinks process nodes are wizardry
appreciate the non-AI marketing talk here. kudos to you Dave!
Since when did IPS panel become more energy-efficient than OLEDs ?! 🤔
OLED is only more power efficient with particularly dark content. Otherwise LCDs are more efficient.
Waiting for that surface laptop 7 review! 🤞
i love when after every launch every review says "finally intel has done it". but intel itself did not mentioned apple m3/ m4 chips once. intel launched previous version of chip just 6 months ago and new laptop has just been released and did not hit the shelf yet and they become OLD.
Because it sucked
