That's about the only thing the scene got right. Hamm's character was a tactical trainwreck. He caused a bunch more people to be shot by not engaging Coughlin when he was behind him and had the drop on him. He stood out in the open giving commands that were ignored and didn't get a single shot off before being forced to scramble for cover. When Hamm finally takes a shot, he misses from a few feet away with a shotgun. His second round was deliberately aimed low to apparently only wound Coughlin. Coughlin then sprays fire indiscriminately and shoots several more cops. Hamm continues to shout verbal commands because he cares more about taking Coughlin alive than ending the threat. Hamm was a disaster.

Before the movie was released, Ben Affleck praised Jeremy Renner's performance. He even jokingly stated that if ever there was a bad shot or performance from someone else in a scene, editing could easily cut to Renner looking at a napkin in order to make the scene work. Jeremy Renner later would go on to receive an Academy Award nomination for his performance.

@@lambsauce5312 It is actually harder to make a semi-auto open bolt rather than a full auto only open bolt. To make it fully auto you just have to make it so the trigger doesn't get in the way as the bolt slams back forward after a shot since an open bolt is just a tube, spring, and bolt where the bolt fires by pushing a round into the chamber and slamming into it to fire then uses the recoil to push itself back. Basically think of it like a pogo stick where the bullet makes you jump back in the air. Unless something is there to stop the pogo stick from slamming back into the ground, it is going to keep going.
