Best robbery I ever heard of was perpetrated by a guy I went to high school with. He went to the customer service counter of a Meijer, handed them a note simply saying "this is a robbery, I have a gun, give me all the money." Kept his hands in his pockets the whole time until the money was handed to him and he walked out unchallenged. To his car. With his license plates. His identity was confirmed by witnesses and every security camera because he wore no mask. He didn't actually have a gun. Just a wicked drug addiction and a total inability to think things all the way through. He was arrested before an hour had passed and the trial was most likely very short.

Lol to be fair to the Dark Knight I'm pretty sure the bank manager had that shotgun because it was a bank run by the Falcone mob, I don't think they meant to suggest a normal manager would whip out a shotty and start taking names.
The same explanation goes for the safe door. "A lot of time during business hours, they'll keep certain safes open" - certainly not in a mob bank. That part and the score was way too harsh from him, unless he actually robbed the mafia, which is unlikely since he's still alive after turning himself in.
I can't be the only one feeling unnerved that Hollywood movies that almost invariably get law enforcement and prosecution wrong all the time get the criminal side accurate so frequently...
I was just thinking about that. I guess there are safeguards for law enforcement procedures that criminal activity wouldn’t necessarily have. If that makes sense
Because real law enforcement is dull and full of paperwork mostly and when there is "excitement" its generally the worst day for any of their lives. Law processes is boring and unless the movie is being handled in a comedic fashion, no producer is going to be willing to do even a compressed version of a trial. Now there are movies that get it pretty close and Legal Eagle or Attorney Tom do pretty good breakdowns but even as they say there are plenty of "Creative freedoms" that happen to make the movie entertaining. Like a witness rushing the stand or prosecution yelling at the Defendant Or even someone yelling at the judge and not being met with contempt of court.
@@Tally2727 It's part of why The Wire is the GOAT of crime dramas. They get the police side of things correct and the entire 5 season show is only following two investigations: the Barksdale crew (who get usurped by Marlo Stanfield) and the dead girls in the shipping crate. Both cases are linked as it's the Greeks (who aren't actually Greek) that are the ones controlling Baltimore's supply of heroin. Part of the show's theme is how laws and institutions can get in the way of justice and morality. In order to show that, The Wire shows us every aspect of law enforcement, including McNutty typing up reports or entire police units out looking for screws.
They can't give away the real police procedures, while bringing the robber's perspective to light step by step raises public awareness of what you should expect.
@@nekrataali Wallander is great too (the one with Brannagh, is most faithful to the books and the best version). And it's no wonder with The Wire they had lots of former cops and criminals help them. A main character in the later seasons was actually on trial for shooting a bunch of people in real life, so they took the realism pretty far on that show. And Bubbles for instance was an actual Baltimore junkie and well known figure, basically he just plays himself in the series. A bunch of the lower level drug dealers where exactly that in real life. With minor character they basically just used the actual people of Baltimore.
"I'd like to turn myself in for over 200 bank robberies...then go on to start up my own business, if that's OK?" Authorities: "Yep, sure! Just promise not to do it again and we're all good"

My guess is he made a deal with the FBI to essentially teach them how bank robbers think and act in return for a lesser sentence. They did it with Frank Abagnale Jr. and also do this with lots of cyber criminals nowadays. It's easier to get these guys to consult and give intel than to just jail them for years and years.

In the movie HEAT the alarm system and security cameras where turned off 30 minutes prior to them entering. The team switched a hardware component they accessed through a parking garage the night before in order to achieve this. The scene where the "alarms" where going off in the police HQ was actually just the phones ringing, the detectives all left in a rush because ( this was not shown in this breakdown ) one of them was just handed a piece of paper with a tip from a CI about the time and location of the robbery.

You’re being ironic here, but they can always use clever editing to show repetitive events, they don’t have to show each robbery in full. Plus now that Apple’s “Cherry” came out, it’d have to be quite some for another bank robberies-focused movie.
Could start of with his first few and then skips ahead and on screen is shows bank heist number 61. Fill remaining gaps with character development. End with him handing himself in.

I worked in a bank for a few years. Now obviously won't say which one but we were all trained that if someone ever passed a note like that then we were to actually just give them what they wanted. No die pack, no special tracker money or anything. Unless they never told us and that stuff was in all the money lol always seemed off to me but they had had someone shot for not complying so they just decided it was better to keep people alive then worry about a few thousand dollars.

As someone who has worked in a bank and have heard stories from coworkers about their experiences with hold ups, it's a bit surreal to hear from a bank robber his experiences. In heat - the broke in through the basement, installed new boards into the security computers to TURN OFF the cameras and alarms minutes before they walked into the bank. I knew people that knew him and they told me the same story later on so I knew she wasn't lying. The man was high on heroin, went in with a note and handed it to them, the guy was so high he nodded off standing there so the woman had time to call the cops. She came back and said "Excuse me sir!" and he came to, she handed him the money and the second he walked out he got jumped on by the whole robbery squad. Like how do you nod off mid bank robbery that's something straight out of a comedy movie. I died laughing when she told me the story but I mean it's kind of sad what drugs do to people.

In the end he might as well gotten 200 parking tickets for all they care, plus he turned himself in.
1’s a felony, 200’s a public service
My guess is he made a deal with the FBI to essentially teach them how bank robbers think and act in return for a lesser sentence. They did it with Frank Abagnale Jr. and also do this with lots of cyber criminals nowadays. It's easier to get these guys to consult and give intel than to just jail them for years and years.

He didn't get a whole lot of time for it cause he used a note and they clearly knew he had a bad drug problem with how everything happened. The Dark Knight one is robbing a mafia bank so the safe and the shotgun are both a little more excusable.
The bus tho lol

that’s what i thought when he commented on the shotgun
Yeah I’m pretty sure the bank is a front and that safe is for the mob so that big ass door wouldn’t be opened as often. And that shotgun dude wouldn’t care about the lives of the customers
No, that is so unrealistic. Maybe if it took place in a fictional city it would be excusable.
As someone who never considered robbing a bank, I wonder what TH-cam’s algorithm thinks of me for suggesting this
Gta games, looking up gta 5 heists. And similar. Algorithm doesn't know the difference between game heist and real heist, AI heard ding and there is also ding here, so it's same ding. So it thinks that such suggestion is correct.

Very simple. All the real ants are girls. And sisters. The boy ants get murdered by the sisterhood after they finish having sex because that's all they're good for. Live for the colony. Die for the colony. Everything else is a lie. 0/10 all the ant movies.
Missed opportunity, really, ants have advanced military techniques for waging war, some enslave other ants, some have democracies and vote on a leader, some domesticate aphids like cowgirls, some even farm. Not to mention the squatters that live with them, and the total body transformations that happen just because the colony needs help. They are like Kamakazi Amazon Warriors and all we get is a Bug's mother f-ing Life with some stupid male voiceover for a dumb love story between siblings......honestly.
They could get Adam Ant? He’d be perfect for that. And quite, “charming,” too. 😉

It’s funny, to bypass that height thing. You could wear heels in your shoes or boots to throw off your real height. You can make yourself from 5’8-5’11 I would imagine, which is a big difference in a suspect.
To commit murder you can wear bigger shoes, gloves, etc. There’s so much you can do to beat the law. Just think like them.
I really enjoyed this. He didn’t just dump all over the movies or try to pick out everything wrong with them, and he was able to speak to the changes, varieties, and procedures of the different banks. I’d give this one a ten.

They do, it’s called Honest Thief with Liam Neeson. Not specifically about this guy, but same premise.
Omg that's not a bad idea. Like that movie Catch me if you can.
If what he was saying were true, they would have already made a movie about him....
I definetely think Leonardo Dicaprio will do it.

Tbh, he needs his own movie. He had a pretty good motive, backstory, and reason why he was a bank robber and ended up being the good guy
We can always use more heist movies and I agree his story would make great film.
Watch Cherry if you havent already.
I guess so, but isn't the "Former military guy who needs to rob a bank/organization to pay back some shady people" kind of a trope at this point? I get that he has an interesting story, in real life, but in the context of a movie, hasn't that been done 100 times at this point?
@@jonlarge While the story line has already been seen, I would still like to see a film made from his story and perspective, because it will likely focus on the emotional, and human side of the story (instead of the action), by showing that things he said in the video (waiting for elderly or pregnant women to leave the bank, not beware completely aware of the psychological damage a bank robber can cause, despite only cleanly going after the money etc...)
There is also the "I'm a good guy, I know I'm doing bad things, I ll try to make them the less bad I can" that could remind "The Equalizer" which would be interesting.
Lastly the whole turning in, once the debt is settle, which would be hard to depict the internal struggle, but a real delight to watch if done right.
If Jordan Belfort had a movie about him then this guy clearly deserves one too
