    Great video coach Lee, your style is much better than the majority of coaches I've had before.

    Hi Coach Lee, I am so glad to have come across this video because I am a culprit at this mistake and the reason I was doing it is because I see all these advanced Club players who consider themselves 'elite' at the clubs I go to doing it. These are players that think they know it all and actually have the audacity to coach us less experienced players without being requested to. So once again I thank you....

    Thanks Coach Lee. This technique is something I used to be guilty of however since correcting this mistake, I now hold the unofficial record for the world's fastest smash so it really does work. Best wishes

    Very well done Coach Lee, and I second your approach! I was confused as to why one of my students was slicing her smash (new player and trained with me for 2 months so far). After feeding another 20 birds and re-checking her grip, body position, feet position, shoulder/elbow/arm/wrist action, everything looked fine until I could not stand it any longer and took out my iPhone to see in slow-mo - I finally saw the back-swing was not straight backwards! Her set position was good, so did not notice this initially as the swing is quite fast. You just found a needle in a hay stack on this one *thumbs up

    In truth, most good players hit just like coach lee demonstrates in this video. The reason why most people believe that the good players ''roll'' their racquet and that it goes behind their back is that they are forgetting that in order to do a proper shot you must also rotate your body. In fact, if I do my backswing the same way coach Lee shows (the good way) AND I add the body rotation, my raquet SEEMS to make a ''circle'' behind my back while it doesn't, in reality. Combining both the body rotation (shoulders being parralel to the shuttle's trajectory then perpendicular) and the proper racquet backswing will give you a strong, precise and quick motion.

    This is such a subtle point, Coach Lee. I have been trying to first become aware of what I'm doing wrong and that itself is challenging. Getting someone to show me a video of what I'm doing has helped. Will keep on practicing to improve. Thanks for your detailed videos. They're very helpful. One question: Is there a particular order in whihch one must study the videos?

      I am going to make very detailed forehand overhead hitting skills step by step and you will see very clearly what I mean and how to do it. Some international players are doing the way but some are not. I can not answer why they do the way they do it. When you see my detailed clips then you will have better idea why you should do it or why you should not do it. Please wait for little while until I make those clips.
      Thank you very much for your comment. Lee

    When we usually smash, it is accompanied by the scissor step to get my right foot to front if i am right handed. How does one time that transition. I think that's where most of us including me would be making a mistake.

    Dear Lee,
    Just when I think that you have explained everything about a shot, you come up with a video showing one more common pitfall! In order to get more power, sometimes I used this wrong technique myself. Sometimes I used to hit well but other times, the shuttle was getting sliced because of circular motion!! Now I understand that it is totally the incorrect way. Will remember, practice and report results to you.
    My smashing has improved over 300 % - 400 % of late. Earlier it was totally bad (almost like a drop shot) but now, I am able to force a weak return even from good players. Thank you very very much!
    Also please make videos on how to grip the racket in the front, middle and rear courts (short to long handles).

    Hi Coach Lee! Your videos are amazing, and you are a great a coach. I would just like to ask you a question. My footwork isn't good that's why I have troubles in catching a drop shot or a shot in the back. What drills should I do to make my footwork better?

    • @coachingbadminton
      @coachingbadminton  9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I am sorry that I have missed your question and just found out. Start with drop and net drill first. Your partner drop from rear court and you return it to the net drop, then your partner lift it back to your rear court and then you drop it to the net then your partner drop it to the net then you lift it to your partner rear court. when you do the net drop, it is 1 and when your partner do net drop then it is 2. Keep counting until 20 then rest for 1 min then do it again for 5 sets. You can do it straight direction or you can do it cross direction. Try and good luck. Lee

    Hi coach Lee, and thanks for all the great tips and videos! I have a small question and didn't find an answer to: If I take the shuttle over my head and want to do a forehand clear, which grip is more appropriate? Thank you very much and keep up the good work!

    • @coachingbadminton
      @coachingbadminton  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      You made a very good question, it is depending on how much time and how much space you have your grip can be used as ready grip, 10% changed forehand grip or pan handle grip. Soon I am going to start to record forehand over head hitting skills in very detail way and the answers to your question will be answer then. But it will take little time before I do it. But My next recording will be on this issue so it wont take too long. Thank you for your good question. Lee

    Master lee can you give some tips on how to smash down or how to hit a smash with better angle? I am mainly confused on where to contact the shuttlecock. Thanks

    • @coachingbadminton
      @coachingbadminton  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      You must take the shuttlecock in front of your body. You must not take it above your head.
      I do know many people try to do it and teach that way but it is not true. If you take in front of your body then you can make the smash
      much steeper and accurate. If you try to hit it above your head smash will go flat and loose power and accuracy. Lee

    Thanks Coach lee, This is soo cool! i have been playing for a year now and have been very serious about it. My coach also teaches the whole scratch back and hit thing too. I am very skinny and don't have much power but this change has made my smashes lethal. Another tip i got from a friend is that i need to step back and walk through with smash, need to be atleast a meter apart to lunge forward to have more power, is this true??

    • @coachingbadminton
      @coachingbadminton  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am against the movement.
      1. There is not enough time to do it

    Sir, I want to enter into state and national tournaments, I trained with one of the best coaches in my city, Mumbai. But now I'm just playing matches with a good badminton marker everyday and I do endurance and fitness training on my own. Is that okay? Joining coaching classes is difficult for me due to my degree commitments.
    Please give me your input on the matter

    • @coachingbadminton
      @coachingbadminton  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes that sound very good. Just everything you do, do it with best possible quality and concentration.
      The most important thing is your desire and confident to win and that will take you to the right way to train. Good luck. Lee

      Thank you. I personally like a bit heavy racket then light racket.
      It is not easy to say which racket you should use as each player is different.
      Best way is you to try and few rackets and choose the one you feel right. Lee

      +Coaching Badminton Thanks for the response :D, do you have any advice on badminton grip size? I've seen a lot of conflicting articles on it, I use an overgrip but I'm not sure if it's the right size? If I hold it tight my fingers touch my palm

      Yes I do feel that it is important to have right grip size.
      I shall make clips for it soon. Lee

    As i'm trying to do this, i`ve come up with a question: If you use your technique, the racket is still turned a bit sideways for a very, very short moment of time, right before it comes out, right? I saw some slow motions of pro players like Fu Haifeng and there it was also turned sideways. If it shouldn't be like that, I don't really know how I should perform a full and powerful swing and how i should use my wrist properly. If I try to do it your way, it`s always turned a bit sideways (its just for a split second right before you use the wrist) and i'm not sure if i'm doing it right, so please tell me ;)
    BTW, I think it would be a good idea to put both motions side to side. In my opinion it's easier to see the difference then, cause you dont have to go back and forth several times, and it will also save up some time on the video ;)
    Besides that, great video coach ;)

    • @coachingbadminton
      @coachingbadminton  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you very much. I fully understand your points. It is not possible to move your racket backward very straight, it will be turning bit. What I am against is the extreme turning which reduce power 40-50%.
      I am going to make very detailed forehand overhead hitting skills step by step and you will see very clearly what I mean and how to do it. Yes I agree with you that it would be so much better if I could put the motion side by side by I have not find out how to do it. My editing skill is not really good to do it. But I shall try to do it soon.
      Thank you very much for your comment. Lee

      What I am saying in this clip is hitting action is better then pushing.
      How other players are doing why they are doing is not the point as everyone has their own way and style which I respect. If you are interested in the point I am making, you may try or you may disregard it. It is not right and good manner to talk about a player hitting action. I do respect the way each player is doing. You may agree with me or you may disagree, which ever way we all learn each other that is why I upload this clip. I would like to hear your opinion why you agree or why you disagree. I put my reasons why and I am interested in your opinion and reasons please. Lee

    All of the pros end up with their rackets behind their heads: th-cam.com/video/NUp5duS9pp8/w-d-xo.html
    Partly because they rotate their torsos 90 degrees (as they should when doing full swing), unlike the instructor in this video who performs only minimal torso rotation.
    What should be explained, and is not explained in this video, is that most of the power of your shot comes primarily from pronation/supination of your forearm, not from pushing motion generated by turning the body. This video explains it decently: th-cam.com/video/HNVC5PVJyPQ/w-d-xo.html
